ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
aaaaah im not sure if i should get it
can anyone compare it to any other game?
i dont have a headset - will this be a problem? -
And as for a headset, they do help, but if at least one person who is a good planner has one your set. -
Think of it like the movie 28 days later. Only you're playing as a survivor.
No headset will sometimes be a problem. If I'm playing a game with 2 friends and 1 pubber and they won't talk, we usually boot them. No communication = game over. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
okay thanx, when does the deal end UK time?

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
ive been making a map in the Source SDK and after getting L4D im now thinking of exporting it to the L4D SDK (when it comes out) do you think this will be possible?
thinking of turning into a campaign as part of a Unit for my course i have to create a game or mod with a 10 week limit i think this could be the easiest thing to do and kinda already have a story line in mind -
Valve is going to make a killing. I love Steam and their weekend deals!
-
I just bought it and downloaded but it's giving me problems it keeps crashing my computer. I getting really frustrated one time my laptop almost couldn't boot up. Anyone else have this prob. I've checked the game file integrity 3 times now. Don't know what else to do to fix it. I sure don't want to waste another day to delete it then redownload and install.

did u try steam forums under L4D ?
maybe someone there experienced what u'r having, wouldn't hurt to also ask there. -

I launched the game and it kinda stuttered in the opening scene, so I thought it was fragmented all over the place since I have about 30 GB left on my harddrive, before installation.
Anyway besides the stuttering because of harddisk searching I exited the game ran ccleaner and did a defragmentation with auslogics and L4d was really all over the hardisk.
Anyway when I tried loading the game again that's when the problem with crashing started.
At the beginning on the roof when I go to open the door to go downstairs and right when I walk down the stairs the screen goes black and the audio cycles over and over with a gun shot. I can't ctrl+alt+del out of it and the only way I can shut down is to hold the power button.
So I booted up again and did a check on the game file integrity and when it reached 100% I tried to play again and same thing.
I did that one more time and I also used the defragment cache option in steam before the game loaded again. and at the same spot on the roof right when you take the weapons medical pack of the table and then open the roof door and head down the steps it blacks out and audio stutters.
I shut down by holding down the power button then when i tried to boot up it was perpetually stuck on the window vista please wait and the loading icon.
I was scared sh!tless and waited 10 min. which was not right. so I dared to shut it down again. booted into safe mode then restarted and it worked I did the check file integrity again and slowly moved down the stairs this time it worked and I made it all the way to the safe zone then in the subway it crashed on me again.
Then I got frustrated and posted help on this forum then went on my Valentines date. Now I just read yall replies and after this I'mma try and play it again to see if it happens again. Hopefully it doesn't . I'll check back on any of yall advice. Thanks. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
im getting bad FPS in here it was stuttering quite a lot and that was after i turned down some of the setting, how can i make this thing go at a good onstant rate with out it dropping alor?
i completed the first campaign
it was hard, but that was down to the poor FPS and it took a while most of the time for it to see that i was pressing the shoot button -
it's still crashing and I tried disabling processes because I read the trouble shooting page and nothing. I'm fricken frustrated, I want my money back. I sent steam a question and they sent me some kind of email that had links to the same trouble shooting page. I'm getting even more mad and I want to know how I can actually communicate with a steam rep cause I just paid 25 bucks for a one stage demo of left 4 dead.

The most common hardware issues come from the HDD or RAM and occasionally the GPU.
1. Download HD Tune and check your HDD's health. (It might not find anything and something may still be wrong mind you, listen for odd mechanical noises, check your drive manufacturer website for other diagnostic tools).
2. Download and run Memtest86+ overnight to check for RAM problems.
3. Check your GPU by running Furmark for at least an hour using the stability test, make sure to use the highest settings to stress your GPU to the max.
Hope this helps! -
Just bought the game. Do you really need a headset to play coop. I dont have one and really don't want. also what settings can I play with 8800gtx and 9300 proc.
Thanks

As for me, I was playing it perfectly fine, updated to the new Nvidia drivers last night and there are black/purple spots everywhere. Game crashes before it loads into any game either.
I'm now stuck between going back to my old drivers, which idle at 10 degrees warmer and work for L4D, or stick to the new drivers, which idle cooler and run WC3.
Or I could reinstall drivers everytime I wanted to play something. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
whats the multicore issue?
where can i find info on it? -
haha, I just bought this game last week during a snow day. Curses!
-
I'm still debating if the game is still worth it. It definitely wasn't worth it (IMO) when it was $50. If anything, I think it's worth $20. C'mon, someone convince me to get this while the deal is on...
GO! -

I don't regret my decision at all! Even for the full retail price. I used to play Counterstrike Source easily 10-20 hours a week. Now, I've only been playing Left 4 Dead. I haven't had all that much time to play recently, but all I have played is L4D. It's such a great example of how Co-Op should play, with a prefect balance of teamwork, great fun, and down to earth shooting zombies for the hell of it. There's zero plotlines, zero politics, and zero complicated mechanics. You really only need to know two things, left click to shoot (and watch where you shoot on expert), and to just right click on someone when they're caught by a smoker (CRITICAL INFO, MAKE SURE TO REMEMBER THIS). Oh, having a mike is a cool thing as well, as it really helps out teamwork when playing on expert or versus. Typing takes way too long.
Anyway, my only complaints are is that the game is too short. There's only 4 campaigns, and only two can be played with versus. Though this is going to change with the new content pack coming out soon. And in addition, the gameplay is kinda too similar for all of the campaigns. Run and gun, when the horde comes, find a corner and just shove all the zombies away, etc, rinse and repeat. The only really dynamic part comes with special zombies and the tank. Though, with the tank all you need to do is light it on fire and run in circles till it dies. Not enough people understand that its pointless to sit there and fire at a tank in expert hahahaha...
But overall, it's a great great experience in co-op gaming. It's a shining examples of all future FPS online. I just need to find a bunch of friends to play online together, then it'd be even more fun.
So see if this convinces you? -
have just been playing this game for a couple of hours and i would say it is definately one of the best games i have ever played.
thanks

Update expected in less than a month will be unlocking the other two campaigns for versus mode
I played the L4D demo, and was hugely unimpressed. My co-workers all bought it, and urged me to do the same (which I refused, I agreed, the game looked like it was worth 10-20 bucks tops... figured it would get boring quickly, little to no replay value, etc). Finally, I won the game in a bet (so I got it for free) and I've fallen in love with it. I'd easily pay 50 bucks for it. Versus offers hours upon hours of entertainment. -
Ok guys, I bought it and downloading it now. I can get my 5 dollar foot longs some other time
Thought to myself that the games I've most enjoyed were developed by Valve. So I'll see if the extra 5 bucks would do me good -
-
haha, thanks and added rep. If you want to co-op with me and my other friends, my steam tag is ichimes1
-
I'm still enjoying the hell out of TF2, and I'm really good at it, so I've not gotten to try out much L4D yet. But it's Valve and they haven't disappointed yet in any of their online multiplayer games.
-
You guys forced me into buying this!!!! LOL!!!! Thanks a bunch!!!
-
haha just bought it also. $31 Canadian was too hard to pass up.

ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
but L4D is really good - shame about how VERY short it is, completed the first campaigns in just over an hour - thats way too shortand theirs only like 4 of them
but hoping with the L4D SDK that many more Campaigns will come out
-
Well the thing about L4D is that the AI Director is arranged such that no 2 runs will ever be the same. It's not like where the Boomers, Smokers, Hunters, Tanks, the Witch, etc are the exact same every time. So I can see this having a lot of replay value.
I just finished up a run of Death Toll and it was great, I racked up the most kills on my squad (422, second guy had 353), and an overall jolly good time. Easily worth $25. -
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
first i need to fix the framerate, its very poor and stutters ALOT
or it might be me just expecting too much i was getting around 25-30
that seems low for the system i have, excluding Crysis -
I love games like COD4, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Half Life 1 & 2, the list goes on. I really haven't played anything besides COD4 in the last few months though, with the exception of KOTOR here and there.
I only have a few hours left to decide but I think I'll end up getting it simply for the price alone. -
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
yeah it seemed good, but the FPS wasnt as good as i expected
