Wow this game is so much fun! And I can play it on 1680x1050 resolution with 4 x anisotropic filtering and 4xAA on my 9600M GT! I don't think I've played any game on such high settings lol

 

Heh, I'm running that game at high settings getting anywhere from 20-60 fps on my ANCIENT 3800+ AMD CPU, 8600 GT, and 1.5 gigs of ram hahahaha...

 

Valve is known for making games that run on all kinds of hardware. The funny thing is I almost get lower FPS in TF2.

 

i was having trouble with it so i lowered the settings - that didnt work and then i heard about turning off the mulicore processing and it works great, i havent turned the settings back up but i will and see what happens but at the moment it doesnt drop at all - well i cant see it dropping

I would like to add and make a correction.

Tank: The tank is a very effective character if you know how to play him correctly. What better way to learn to kill the tank than to become it. (Cliche, lol) Anyways, the tank is useless in wide open areas. He's slow and if a survivor is in the green(health all the way up) it's practically impossible to chase them down unless they change path. But if they're running away from you, good luck.

The tank is also vulnerable to other things such as Molotov Cocktails, Hunting Rifle, and powerful weapons. The Molotov will quickly diminish your health and in some cases you won't know you're about to die until you actually do. Your health will remain green, then you'll just collapse. You'll see what I'm talking about. A survivor equipped with a hunting rifle aiming for your head can easily take you down in less than one load of magazine by themselves. So if you run into a group of survivors that packs the hunting rifle stay away if possible or attack them with the help of your infected friends. This also rings true for survivals with more powerful weapons. When approaching a group of survivors with the initial weapons you won't have too much problems. It'll take them a while to kill you. However if you approach them while they are equipped with the more powerful weapons, you have to play strategically and use objects or your infected friends help.

I find that the absolute best way to play the tank is to use obstacles to knock down survivors. You'll see on some levels there are forklifts, cars, dumpsters, generators, and other large units that survivors wouldn't necessarily be able to move on their own. If you hit these units onto a survivor it will incapacitate them IMMEDIATELY. No running around trying to chase them.

Tanks and Hunters benefit from boomers. What better way to add to the chaos of a giant angry zombie rampaging through the city streets than to have a horde of zombies confusing the survivors. Albeit slow and almost useless at first, Boomers can do more damage than you think. Watch the multiplier the next time you boom on a survivor.

Strategy
Objects blocking doorways/pathway glitch: There is a glitch(whether or not it is a glitch is still controversial. For arguments sake, I'll assume that it's a glitch) on No Mercy after the elevator ride. The infected would push a generator to block the door. Without an external aid, there is no way possible to get out of it. But a few things can help you. During the beginning of the level, if you suspect that the other teams are using the glitch, try looking for pipe bombs or the green oxygen tanks. I prefer using the green oxygen tanks, but will forewarn you that if you have a member of your survivor party who is already low on health, it may incapacitate them. Use with caution. You can also use the pipe bombs. The problem with the pipe bomb is that it's not consistent. Sometimes it will blow it directly out of your path. If you understand how the physics work in the game, you'll know that in some cases it won't move it correctly. The best way to get around this is to throw the pipe bomb near the object and start hitting/melee the object while it is about to explode. When it explodes, the object will keep moving so long as you keep hitting it. Now this also applies to one last thing. If a member of the infected party touches the object by hitting/melee and you touch it simultaneously by hitting/melee you will continue to move it provided you keep hitting it.

These are just a few things I've noticed. I've been playing the game since the demo was made available.

Wow! this really cleared things up for me between low and very high shaders. Before, I could barely tell the difference between them! I have it on very high. My friend has it on low and I hardly could tell the difference since the game still looked good except it was a little more "cartoonish".

technically they are not zombies, according to Valve they are people who are still alive but infected with a pathogen that makes them angry, think the movie 28 days later/weeks later if you have watched them already.

I think this is the first genre of it's kind that is completely the perfect scenario to be stuck in in a zombie apocalypse.

What would you guys do if the zombie apocalypse arrived? Head straight for the National Depot to pick up some weapons? (Might get shot by soldiers though). Barricade youself in your house with a baseball bat?



@Len thanks for the Tank info. The Tank can be really annoying for new players (weekend deal) because it's hard to control, especially if your team mates don't back you up. NEVER chase green survivors unless you have them completely trapped. Also, as of the most recent patches, Tanks in versus will take continuous damage from fire rather than being on a timer. The 40-sec Tank timer still applies to campaign mode though.

 

i think if it were to happen i would be careful, you dont have to risk your life and everything, i live in flats with fireproof doors so i think i would just wait it out - sure i would have to get food but their are like 6 floors and 10+ flats per a floor so i think i would be okay and i dont eat very often i can go days without eating so that would make food last longer i think that the boredom would be the hardest thing as long as we have electricity and the internet doesnt go down i should be fine

What would you do when the time to get food actually arrived?

 

search the flats where i live, their are 6 floors and around 10 flats per a floor, the glass is quite think and you have to use a key card to get into the building and then to get into each flat so i would have to find a way of forcing entry but with some basic weapons like knives should be fine

it also depends what kind of zombies they are as their are ones that "die" if they dont eat flesh and their are those that dont "need" to eat flesh to survive but still do

 

What about everyone else who lives there? They'd greatly endanger you.

 

well it would depend, maybe they are dead or have gone crazy and made a run for it - if they have become zombies i could make some weapons and kill them i think the hardest part would be getting into their room.

i could survive for a good month or more on the food that i have so most of the zombies should be dead after a month of not eating, though it depends how long ago the infection started

 

That would be undoubtedly the easiest part. I would not want to spend the zombie apocalypse with you.

 

you dont know how thick these doors are they are sealed so that fire cant spread.

Over here in the UK it's hard to get firearms of any kind, so I'd probably have to rely on some sort of melee weapon until I can find a hunting shotgun/rifle or something. No semi-automatics though, it would take forever to load the shells.

How is your L4D going crash?


I've been playing since the pre-order demo, but I JUST learned how to do "hunter wall-jumping". I've known about it for a long time but I figured it wouldn't really be useful.


But it sure is fun!! Leaping from building to building like spiderman is just the ultimate rush, especially if you can tie it in with a 25 damage long range pounce at the end of your journey.


For those who don't know how to wall-jump, just jump at a wall... aim in another direction and jump again. You can easily scale 10-storey buildings in less than 2 seconds, perfect for setting up those 25 damage pounces on some unfortunate human survivor.

 

i really wanted to go on this tonight, but had to run malewarebytes coz of an infection - it got 5 infected files deleted them though so i hope they are gone,not sure what they were though a couple were Trojans, not sure if they were all Trojans though

 

So far I've only played the first two campaigns in single-player mode. If I wasn't so busy with schoolwork, I would have surely played more; it's tons of fun

 

I think I'm officially bored with this game til the new content. I've beaten the campaigns, gotten the achievements (although some of them have glitched and say I don't have them) and versus is generally boring. One team destroys the other team. Then half that team ragequits, and the people who join are thrown into the confusion and do terrible too.

Really, I just wish they'd finish the sdk. There are TONS of campaigns almost finished that are waiting on the SDK for final touches. I honestly could care less what campaigns valve puts out. I just want Racoon City and Dead Before Dawn.

 

Yeah Dead Before Dawn looks cool as does the Resident Evil remakes i cant wait for the SDK either so i can start trying to make a map or 2

 

Yea, those two look great, as is, but L4D now needs to allow people to be able to join servers with the custom maps instead of going through hoops to get it running for only you and people who have the IP and map already downloaded.

I'd love to see what they're going to do when this new update gets here. Because I certainly do NOT want to join servers with terrible maps that some 12 year old made that's just an orange box in fullbright with zombies running at you in the open. And I also want to be able to choose which custom maps I want to join, and which I do not, to do this would REQUIRE the use of a server browser so I really can't see how this will work out.

 

Someone should create a map where there are four survivors holding out against a never ending horde of zombies. At their disposal are several mounted machine guns, high powered weapons, certain kill spots that they can back up into and only a limited supply of health. There should be a timer that times who last the longest. Tanks should be deployed randomly along with other special infected. =)

 

i believe that thats what the new Survival Mode is, not 100% sure though
