I found a 9650m GT 1GB DDR2 which would go in my laptop the right way and supposedly works with m50 Asus models. I dont think the trade off money wise is even worth it from a 9500m gs. I'm jealous of your upgrade
I feel like it would not be hard for a company that specializes in graphics card adapters, such as the one that make the parts for the DIY ViDock, to make a connector which would flip the mxm to normal. However I am probably just ignorant and the companies have little financial incentive.

rofl its funny to see him actually offended for once....
-
I'm Asian but having friends and having used to live in an incredibly racist town like mine pretty much desensitized to any possible insults. Besides, who gets offended on the internet???
-
i haven't lived in a super racist town like you all so i am getting offended.. sorry for not being as thick skined as u ppl.
-
Relax guys, sorry that some of you got offended, the guy was just kidding
The post is long gone, so keep it cool.
HWTools are pretty innovative as you can see (and a little more expensive than most of the people hoped), so you can e-mail them, they could make your wish come true
-
Triturbo you inspired me, I emailed them haha. We'll see if I get a response.
-
Technically my laptop has no back panel, but the heatsink/GPU is facing down, so just like what you're guessing..but mine's MXM tho. Is yours really a flipped one?
-
Yea mine's flipped but its definitely mxm-II. if I stuck that card in my laptop it would probably work but the gpu would be on the wrong side therefore no contact with heatsink.
-
You could modify the heatsink, if it has the copper tube. Lol or not hehe
-
Haha Believe me the thought crossed my mind, but I could definitely see that thing melting a hole through my mobo, seeing as if I put the card in and managed to modify the heatsink it would but a really tight fit, not to mention sandwiched between the card and the mobo
-
its been 2 months since I ordered my 4650 (ddr2) and still haven't recieved it. Now I read this and I'm actually pissed..
Don't get me wrong! I'm verry happy for you and glad to see everything works great.
Still I'm a bit.. you know... it gives me a bad feeling you got a 4670..and you're not even telling where you got it.
I'm guessing iligal ..
O well! Great Job!! -
Also I'm wondering if you had any problems with the bios?
-
I've got 2x3870 in crossfire in my laptop and it gets me about 15000 in 3dmark06. Only problem is there are no supported drivers so I have to use the mobility modder to get them on my computer. Do the drivers install fine for you without having to mod them?
-
Any updates, are you still waiting it?
Thanks
Nothing illegal, I can assure you at least that
Not at all - plug'n'play
I'm using Mobility Modder too
-
Still not delivered, ather numberous of e-mails, they send me acer was having trouble with this model..
Oh my god. -
Which one you ordered: VG.M9606.005 or VG.M9606.006? Can't see difference, except ~80US$. And, what is VG.M9606.004?
-
The M9606.004 part is the Radeon HD 4670 1GB GDDR3 MXM-A found in the Aspire 8935G.
-
Just trying to sort things out: There are versions of 8935g with HD 4670 and HD 4650 as well. If 4670 iz MXM III form factor, 4650 can be placed into same card slot, instead of 4670, because it's smaller. Correct?
-
You messed up the standards. It's OK, you'll get it after a while, here is the TehSuigi's response:
-
@triturbo
Thanks, bratko, I was going too fast.
And, again, anybody to tell difference among .005 and .006 versions of 4650? -
So far no one knows, bratko
We are just guessing that it's probably the same product with two part numbers (which is kinda stupid), but as I said, no one knows for sure. You can check it, if you buy them both
-
Where did you manage to get your 4670? thanks
-
He already stated that he can't tell on the first page.
-
Hi
Does anybody know if the HDMI-Output is working with the HD4650 or with the 4670 on the 5920G?
Thanks. -
I'm interested in that as well, but I don't have appropriate external display to test it right now
-
But in general it should work?
So I think the pin placement is the same as on the 8600M GT or the 9500M GS.
And I also think that ATI wouldn't change so much in comparison to the HD3650. -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
It think it is fairly likely to work. ATI thankfully has not changed their chip placement between the 3650, 4650 and 4670 cards it appears unlike nvidia.
-
When I swap my HD3470 for HD3650, HDMI worked like a charm. Maybe it would be the same now, but I can't be sure till I try it.
-
Thanks for helping!!!
I think I'm going to buy a HD4650 because it's more easier to get one. -
where can i buy an ati 4650 gddr3??thaxxx!!
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
You can't. There are select DDR2 4650's for sale from acer and that is just about it. The 4670 is practically impossible to get.
-
I think I'm going to skip upgrading my 5920g and save up for a gaming rig.
Since I got my refund (4650 - ipc-computer.de) I figured I could eventually save enough for a decent pc.
So triturbo, any updates on the performance/temps? -
Wait for ati mobility hd 5650 I hope it is mxm_II

The money put in a notebook can be 'doubled' when put in a desktop.
If I pay 200 for a graphics card for my 5920G I get 5-6k 3dmark score. If I invest for a desktop with a 200 Graphics card.. I get what.. 15000?
See my point? -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Yup we do but then you don't have a gaming laptop
-
Actually I did some tweaks, but my internet is REALLY bad, so I'll upload pictures later
Not the temperature decrease that I'd expected, but I have some more ideas for tweaking.
-
Copper HDD mounting bracket, good for -1ºC A friend of mine made it out of 0,5mm copper sheet with a little help from me. It was 4 hours work, but I think that it worth it.
I'd dremeled out the aluminum fins and replaced them with copper blocks and Sekisui tape. Result - same temps. I guess it's because air passages are too thin to allow proper air flow
I'll try to make the passages wider, I'll buy Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive and I'll pray for lower temps
Copper blocks idea came from those two threads
I have 24 more blocks (8 now and 16 on their way) which I'll put over the CPU and wherever I can fit them
-
Your laptop is turning into a Frankenstein isn't it.

Roughly how much does it cost to get HD4670 512MB DDR3? (I would like to set a budget for myself) My 8600M GT just broke down. Somehow, I feel good about it, now I get the chance to upgrade my lappy's performance.
I have searched and read topics by topics on MXM upgrade and learned a few tricks. Regarding the thermal paste, would Cooler Master NanoFusion Thermal Interface Material with 7.8w/mK be your choice? I believe this is the best thermal paste I could find in my place (for now). Besides, could you tell me more bout the copper stuff? Like could I just buy it in a hardware shop or I have to specifically get it from an IT shop? Is there any different?
Thanks!
Vincent -
Nice. I wish MXM was alot more user friendly. I kinda lost interest in MXM after my z81sp died
-
I'm doing my best
It's nearly impossible to buy HD4670, but you can definitely buy a HD4650 instead. It's not the same as its bigger brother, but it's a very nice upgrade over your 8600M
I personally prefer MX-2. I don't know how easy for manipulation NanoFusion is, but I'm sure that MX-2 is among the top ones in terms of temperature decrease and it's the easiest to use - put a little over your CPU/GPU slap the heatsink and you're done
What about the copper? I have a copper sheet (16mm x 16mm x 0,9mm for HD3650 and 18mm x 18mm x 0,9mm for HD4670) instead of thermal pad between my GPU core and the heatsink. This alone cuts my temps with good 15ºC to 20ºC. Here is the topic, where I saw it. The other copper modifications haven't proved as most efficient so far, but I'm working on it
I'd ordered another heatsink, so I can pull this one and work on it and I'll still have a working laptop (I was 2 days offline while cutting my heatsink)
If you have copper sheets like these (0,9mm thick for the GPU; 0,5mm for the HDD bracket) in your local hardware store, buy it from there, otherwise - eBay. You can try to use 0,5mm one on your GPU as well, in order to avoid buying two sheets. The problem is that I'm not very confident if 0,5mm would fill the gap. I'll let you know if I try it
What do you mean? Sorry, I'm probably missing something, but what MXM has to do with your lappy's death? -
Personally I saw really great results with IC Diamond. It cut my temps down about 6C switching from AS5.
-
The market is loaded with HD3650 512MB at USD78 (cheapest I could find) and not HD4650. It's kind of hard to grab any of HD4650 in the market sigh and now I have to work with my friend PC.
Before I go on purchasing anything, what kind of information do i need to take notice of? As far as I know, it must be preloaded with Acer vBios. So what else could you share with me.
P/s: First time hand-on so I might need lots of help with all those configuration in the future regarding Flash, Bios upgrade and so on.... Even though I have read some of them, but still I could not absorb most of it.
Thanks!! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What happened to your card?
-
It cuts 2ºC over MX-2 for me, but I find it a lot harder for application. That's why I would recommend MX-2
Check this topic for HD4650 related questions, including where you can actually get one
It would be good to have Acer vBIOS, but it should work fine even if it's not (my HD4670 has MSI vBIOS).
Never arrived and he got refunded. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I wonder what thay card can do when fitted to a cooler that works properly
-
Yeah, I have followed that topic from the beginning. Feeling stressful after reading for 40 pages. I will try luck in there so thanks triturbo!! Appreciate it!
-
It's currently running @1,1v and I'm lazy to flash it
When I refine my cooling, I'll see what this thing can do. I'm a bit scared though, you can't find a HD4670 everywhere, you know
No problem, I wish you good luck with the upgrade
-
MSI into Acer laptops work. But I'm trying to find out whether MXM cards from Zepto work on Acers--Zepto card aren't proprietary, right? I'm also trying to find out what vBIOS the cards have..
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I might let my HD 4650 go for the right price.....
MSI's HD4670 is running in my Acer 5920G
