I really hope it is good as they say, because they really threw me off with GTAIV, that game didnt deserve more then a 7 imo. I like to not go by reviews, but I really thuink this will help out the PS3, it needs a really good exclusive since Haze dive bombed.
edit: GAMESPOT ONE ADDED
-
Purchased it this morning. Will give it a spin this weekend! I don't go by reviews. They're always heavily biased.
-
i have a week of school left, I plan on this being my "fun" purchase to kick of the summer.....yes I am a loser
-
gametrailers.com review is the best to watch.
-
I honestly don't know if I would want to play a metal gear solid game so long that it took a blue ray disk to hold all of it.
I always wonder if it will come to 360...
Even then I don't know if I'd buy. -
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
apparently there is like a 90 minute cut scene randomly in the game lol.
could be a good thing i guess, as long as you are prepared to sit through it when you get there. -
-
Been playing since midnight. (Picked it up at Midnight Launch) Absolutely incredible. The most immersing, and tactical Metal Gear of all. It is, although, set in modern warfare, so there is more gun combat, but it's still good ol' MGS. Loving the MGS Online, too.
The humor is absolutely one of the best parts... -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Can't wait to play this. Yeah I've heard that the because this is the last mgs the plot is very convulted because it tries to iron out the details and characters from all the other mgs games.
But hell, this is a great end to one of the greatest gaming series of all time. -
And Liquid Snake is back... that's just awesome...
-
-
I haven't seen the 90 minute scene. The craziest thing is the opening loading screen. It's like a futuristic Tae-Bo commercial. Creepy...
-
My friend bought it this morning and has been MIA for the past 13 hours...
-
It's extremely addicting. All the upgrading weapons and stuff just makes you keep coming up. The cinematics alone should be a movie.
-
BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
*wants this for PC nao!*
-
I've always liked the MG series and have owned them all up until now. I wouldn't buy a ps3 for it though. Then again, I haven't played it yet... I need another reason to get me closer to GT5.
-
I would consider it. The IGN reviewer said he wishes he could give it an 11.

Plus you could be playing the GT demo/prologue leading up until the release -

INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
*sigh* you have to install this on the PS3. Aw well...
-
This game is the only reason why i'd say PS3 is good.. wish i had one for this game xD
-
I wouldn't say "only reason". Between Blu-Ray, built in Wi-Fi, free internet, user changeable hard-drives, fantastic exclusives, Six-Axis/Dual Shock 3 controller, rechargeable batteries, and the over-all performance... there are quite a few reasons to buy one.
-
Well, i said that there is one reason because i mainly hate consoles
-
Ah, so one reason for you.
-
Would a PC Port be worth their while? They could do a Blu-Ray and multiple DVD version. I'd get the Blu-Ray.
-
But if it's coming to x360, i bet it'll reach the pc as well. But atm, no chance. -
Me wanty on PC
-
Doubt it, seeing as MGS is Sony's flagship. I know there were rumors it would go to 360, but those dropped a while ago. And I highly doubt they would try and recode the game to run worth while on the PC. The game is flawless. Trying to port it would only screw it up, ruining the reputation of the series. The last thing Konami wants is their final installment of one of the greatest series' of all time being plagued with technical problems.
-
I'm pretty sure MGS games have been ported to PC before.
I really want to play MGS4 but I really don't want a PS3. If anything'd rather get a 360. -
Gamespots review is up, perfect 10
-
Gamespot - a site that I'll ever visit again.
Anyway, GameTrailer's review is good since i hate reading. -
people complain about review sites too much. Get over it.. They are there for a resource and in reviews for the most part they are on target (sometimes they are off in their likes/dislikes). Either way the if review sites are generally giving it a high score and you think you would enjoy this type of game, then common sense says you should just buy it and have fun. I miss the days of when I had my n64 and just bought games based on my initial reaction of playing at my friends or at a store. I don't think anyone back then were always so dependent on review sites.

Incidentally, I've never played a Metal Gear game myself. Would those of you who own MGS4 say that it would be worth picking up? Would I be lost in the story if I jumped straight in? -
I'm not really complaining about how individual gives a score to the game. What I really dun like is how they work (in example: CNET/Gamespot)... I used to visit gamespot, but after the whole pleasing the advertiser act.. i just banned all cnet's website and so...
Anyway, this is OT..
MGS4 still rocks.. gonna go and test it out tomorrow...
You could basically just go youtube, or anywhere else and find a summary from mgs1 to 3.. i think gametrailer has them. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Not really gonna do the series justice if you just pick up 4. You really have to see the progression of the series to appreciate each game.
-
All the reviews say the game sums up the entire series nicely even for people who have never played it.
-
MGS for PS1 and MGS2: Substance were ported to PC, with the latter being a poor port with many bugs and issues.
I suppose because of their poor sales on PC, the 3rd game wasn't ported.
FF7 and FF8 were also ported to PC but no more were ported I suppose due to poor sales, or does FF11 count? -

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah go for it, but the plot of metal gear is convoluted and at times a bit much but yeah getting a good amount of info before playing 4 will definitely make it more enjoyable.
I was just saying its pretty cool to see how the characters evolved throughout the series and understand what makes them tick since alot of the characters are in actually are not as evil as they are portrayed. -
See, the thing is, the MGS series really relies on suspense and building up a plot. MGS4 is when a hugely important plot point gets revealed(about the Patriots) and it just won't have the same impact if you haven't PLAYED the previous games.
I don't get the issue, the first 3 games should be available cheaply and easily. You really do need to play them, or at least you need to play 2 and possibly 3. -
-
I wouldn't be very sure at all. I think as soon as Blu-ray drives become cheaper they'll do a PC port.
The PS3 is simply relatively more expensive and hasn't attracted as large a userbase as the PS2. They're loosing out on a lot of customers. -
Blu-ray drive adoption will be slow on the PC as people will need HDCP videocard and monitors. This game just simply cannot be done without the storage capacity of the Blu-ray. Imagine having to swap 4 DVDs (PS2) or a 4 DVD install (PC). -
Anyway, I thought MGS on the Playstation original was an absolute masterpiece. Then I played the sequel on PS2, and despite popular opinion being otherwise, I thought it was nonsensical rubbish. A potentially great game randomly diluted by wierdness. Same with Snake Eater. Some incredibly stupid stuff in there. Not a fan at all.
Absolutely zero interest in 4 at this stage for that reason. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
they could do digital distribution on the PC, plus they could compress the HD video a bit. if they distributed through steam, you could even start playing the game while the video keeps downloading in the background.
-
This game is a system seller for the PS3 - hence the limited edition bundle. -
Yea.. since the console war is still on, and sony hasn't overcome x360 yet, i doubt they'll let such big title be laid onto the xbox. Same story as Halo...
