Just buy one. You'll only feel bad for a lil while
-

-
what he means is you wont feel bad, ever, so just buy one to play this game
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
lol. well if i could get a ps3 with the hd cables, an extra controller, mgs4, gta4, and GT5... all for
$350
i would bite. -
maybe after the release of ps4 you could even get it down to $300 for all that... does anyone else have the feeling that mgs4 didn't really need more space than a single-layer blu-ray?? maybe using a dual-layer could've been a little bit of propaganda used to hype the game...
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
ultimately, i'll wait for GT5 and GTAIV to come out on the pc, and im going to skip MGS4 because im not paying 450 dollars to play that game.
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
But...its MGS4. And you have a picture of Big Boss as your avatar! You must!
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
*sigh*
i'll probably play it when i get back to college. someone will have it. -
You would assume that they have already used compression on all the Video, it's pretty standard practice these days. Further compression will probably results in unacceptable drop in quality. OTA TV signal at 1080i is 8GB per hours and you can double it for 1080p. There are about 3 hours of video on this game. If it was un-compressed. that alone would have account for 48GB already. You'll never see this game on a non blu-ray PC or 360.
-
Even after playing the game, it's hard to tell. I mean, they probably could have fit it on 25G Single, but maybe the "comfort" of having that extra side just helped. No compression, etc. They could freely use up as space as they needed, relieving a little pressure from the developers.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
@ wiz: ok, but over the air TV is in mpeg format, which requires massive bandwidth in general, and your TV doesn't take advantage of h.264 encoding...
you can rip an entire DVD video to the size of a CD with only a minimal* loss in quality.
of course, you need a computer to be able to play it back. your TV can't handle advanced compression formats like your computer can. it requires decent processing power to uncompress everything. but its nothing a modern console can't handle. 3 hours of hd video that would normally require a high capacity disc like blu ray can definitely be compressed to a single layer of a DVD and still retain a high standard of HD quality.
again, it would require some decent processing power to play back, and your TV can't do it, but your xbox or PC can.
same thing applies to everything else- audio, data, textures...
im not on the MGS4 team and i don't know all the details, and neither do you.
i just wouldn't be surprised if they could fit everything in a fraction of the space it uses now if they wanted to.
---
@kgann - just curious, do you know how much space the game takes currently? it uses both layers of a blu ray disc? -
Don't know if you mean on the disk or HDD. I don't know about the disk, but HDD space- 5G.
-
1 of the producer said so.. they almost filled up a dual layer BD.. I watch the mgs4 post mortem interview on gametrailer
-
I'd hardly say a MGS game made the PS3 better than the 360.
That my friend, is rediculous.
-
Theyve said in numerous interviews they had to cut stuff out because they ran out of space
-
Hey guys, I got MGS4 with my new 80GB PS3 bundle, but I have to sell the game (I promised my wife I'd sell it).
If you know anyone that wants to buy it, have them PM me. Thanks!
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
You're selling it!? Wut is wrong with you man!?!?!
-
On wife's order.. i believe
-
Yeah, I know... but that was the deal I made with my wife.
We already had Wii, so I had to convince her to let me buy the 40GB PS3. A few days later, I was able to get my hands on an 80BG bundle. I agreed that I'd sell the game if I could "upgrade" to the bundle -- partly for the money but mostly to avoid our 5 yr old son from seeing it. -
You can't always believe what the developers say in interviews, especially when they are trying to hype a new game. That is definitely not to say that the game isn't awesome, but it seems almost impossible for it to take up a whole dual layer without a TON of full hd video. The game itself just isn't THAT huge, and from what I've read most of the cinemas are not prerendered; they use in-game graphics just like the previous metal gear versions. I could always be wrong of course since I don't own it yet or personally know people who created it, but it seems like kind of a ploy to draw attention to the size of a dual-layer blu ray vs dvd.
-
What a bunch of bull! A 3 hours HD movie cannot be compress to fit on a DVD and retains ANY degree of HD quality!!!!!!!!!!!
My Sanyo HD1000 1080i camcorder uses H.264 and will only do 1 hour and 24 minutes on a 8GB SDHC card. So yes, H2.64 helps but not that much. People that keeps thinking that additional compression will work is like those that believes an up-converted DVD is as good as Blu-ray. Dream on. -
When I get back to University, I so want to borrow my friend's PS3 and play this.
it looks incredible! -
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Why wait? You need to go buy one right now and play! -
its only $400, just go buy it
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
a 400 dollar game is pretty expensive.
-
cheaper than Crysis hehe
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
No, no. The game only cost $60 and $400 for the system. Buy buy buy. Gogogogogo -
I agree... Hey your getting a decent Media PC for that too.. and Bluray.. no brainer to me..
-
Haha and with what money can I buy this?
Plus the fact that I'm in the US for the next couple of months and I already don't have enough room in my bags to bring everything I have back to Canada. If I bought a PS3 I'd have to pay to send it down to Canada. Plus I hardly have the time for it now.
So if I were to buy a PS3 and MGS4 it would have to wait until I head back to Canada... And once I'm there I can just borrow it from a friend. -
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Here's what you do:
Buy the PS3 and game...narsnail said he'll reimburse you.
Go ahead and mail all your clothes to Canada and put the PS3 in your suitcase
Get a bunch of coffee and red bulls and play the game during the times you usually sleep.
Problem solved. -
Haha that sounds like a perfectly good plan!
-
Well, Is the Walmart deal still around? You get a $100 Walmart card when you by a Blu-ray player (including a PS3). That drops the price down to $299. There is also the Sony credit card deal that gives you $100 credit for the first purchase over $299.
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Well you can't use the gift card on the PS3 cause you get it after your purchase it. but you can use it on the extra controller and game.
Sony credit card sounds like a good deal but I dont know If I would want to mess with my credit -
I just beat MGS4 on Solid Normal and WOW what a great game. GTA IV blows in comparison. If you own a PS3, you should definitely buy this game. Enjoy!
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Please...GTAIV has nothing on MGS4. To even mention them together...
I think I'm going to play online over the weekend and then start the hardest difficulty on Monday
-
From me!
-
i just bought it! funny story though, did not have a disc the first time, so i brought it back and they gave me a new one, man walmart is dumb, i could do that with every game I ever buy and get two copies and sell one haha....
installing as i speak, i cannot wait
-
Well be pleased that you din need to go through even more troubles...
Enjoy the game then. -
this game looks really good. I'm going to pick this up along with a ps3 and gtV when it comes out, but I'm kind of doubting the replay value will compare to gtaIV. There is definitely a lot of fanboyeurism surrounding this game, as there is with every big system-exclusive release.
-
And there isn't around GTA4. I for one have no intention of playing any of the GTA series ever.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
can someone link me to this deal thing?
299 for a ps3 and $100 credit? that might be enough for me to bite. -
I got burned out on GTA. GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andrea's all just felt whipped together. GTAIV changed my opinion. It's brilliant.
-
Too late, the Walmart deal ended June 14th. But the Sony deal is still around. You need both to get the PS3 for $299 with $100 credit. Each deal on it's own will only get you a PS3 for $299.
-
GTAIV sucks...I played it for a couple days and just got bored with it. It felt like the same mission over and over again. Some thug sends you on a hit, you kill some people to get to the main person, kill the main person then run from the cops, and repeat.
-
^That was my opinion for all the GTA's, but the story in GTAIV is well worth it to me.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
forget that, then.
now im definitely not getting a ps3 unless it can be had for about $200 -
Americans... Dont know how good they got it.. My PS3 cost £299 for the 40gb!! thats still like what $550+
Fancy letting me immigrate ?!?!
-
I got my PS3 for $8.39!
-
bahh.. humbug...
-
Seriously, after trading in my 360, all the games, and accessories. I had to pay 8.39 for the tax.
-
Wow.. Just compare two entirely different genre of games.
