I went through Waterwizard's cave system and did some more exploring and illuminating...turns out that system connects to the one I mined into with my 8x8 shaft mine. Took me about half an hour to find my way out

Also, who made the sign that says "Mastershroom likes to eat poop?"

My idea would be to punish naughty players with a forced "donation" to the n00b shelter.

Yea, i was going through there last night...was like "woah, obsidian, woah gold, woah...someone else has torches down here? It's a huge system though, which is great being right by spawn.

should give us a huge amount of material to build a small town in the spawn valley (it really is a valley....small pond surrounded by mountains).

Also...I realized that I had tried to change my skin awhile ago, but the skin upload is busted. It was also busted last night. Has it been busted for the entire time?

Also, what good is a fortress if you've got nothing to hide from?

 

so i gave in and got it... probably not the best idea for the brand new player to go explore the "super deep mine" and get totally lost. Now I cant seem to get out.

Also when you start you start on top of the house with no safe way down but to fall and take damage I think (maybe i missed the safe way down)

We will need to start making exit signs inside that giant mine. And a communal chest to store tools and torches at the base.

Also, if you press F3 you can get coordinates (not too helpful when You're underground, lol).

And F1 hides GUI.

And F8 gives you a cinematic camera movement if you want to record a little video with smooth camera rolling action.

Do you have passworded chests enabled? Like if a couple people wanted to share a chest we could just share the passkey?

 

LWC serves that purpose too.
Just do /lwc to bring up all the commands for that plugin.

 

Cool. Hey do you have any idea why I can't upload a new skin on my profile? Is the uploader working for anyone else?

I get a "Woah! Something went wrong...." error from the web page @ minecraft.net

 

I can't change the skin either...same error. Maybe something to do with the website itself. Tried Firefox and Internet Explorer, didn't work...so maybe it's a server side issue.

Anyway I explored the backalley of my house, there's a mineshaft behind if you guys wanna have some exploration done.

 

So has anyone considered my idea yet? About organizing members of the server a little so we can start collectively building some sort of town with town-infrastructure.

 

I think it's a good idea...but the I think the community will assemble itself after we complete some of the following things:

-Get more regular players/times
-Have monsters + Currency (which he just enabled)
-Collect more raw materials (unless you want a dirt town) .

I'll probably be on tonight for an hour or two sometime between 7 and 10pm (est).

 

I'll get on sometime. I'm kinda hooked on Mass Effect for the moment, but if I get a minute to spare (an hour, more like) I'll hop on the server and mess around.

 

Currently setting up a railroad system to connect two separate places.

Since the skin uploader is busted, is there a way to enable local skins on the server to distinguish users?

EDIT: NVM, i finally got the skin uploader to work. Now i'm link!

 

I put a chest with a buttload of torches by the entrance to the mine, they're free for all. Although that whole area is already pretty well lit, there's probably only one or two unlit tunnels at this point.

 

Awesomeness. I will definitely be on tonight and hopefully work on the mine more. Gonna need to start crafting me some gear first though, since it's no longer peaceful, lol.

If I get more time will start laying out foundations for a huge castle maybe.

 

Should be sure to build the large/town structure around the spawn location (or move the spawn location there) so that we can have a well lit, flat, open area for new players to be welcomed, and not mauled by mobs.

 

Yeah the current spawn canyon is cool but rather rugged, with a lot of giant cliff overhangs creating shadows that will spawn a tonne of monsters every night. It'd be cool if your spawn is shifted to slightly away from the canyon, so that a spawn town can first be made. Of course later roads (or warp points, if that mod is added) can be made that leads to the canyon where additional towns can be made potentially.

Which is good because otherwise it's hard to convince more NBR users to join in on the fun. This way there is an almost exclusive community for Minecraft for attracting those curious about whether or not to plunk into the game.

Does anyone know how wolves work in SMP? Like if I tame a wolf, and I put him in a pen...will he stay there when I log off? Will he return to a hostile state until I come back? Will he disappear if nobody is on the server?

 

Alright I discussed with Deagleson just now ingame... we changed the spawn to a large flat area that's about 1-minute walk from the canyon. There will be warp points to e.g. the old spawn, and other interesting places.

With this new spawn landscape, we can now start building town-related things

 

You tame a wild wolf by right-clicking him with a bone, which you can get by killing skeletons. That will make a red collar appear on him, and he'll follow you around and kill everything you get into a fight with. The wolf will stay when you log in and out, and you can command him to wait by right clicking him. Wolves can be killed, but you can heal yours with a raw porkchop.

 

pro-tip: its not safe under the first level of the viking palace...

it's like creeper heaven in there.

 

You should make a trap and harvest their loot. They drop sulfur, which is good for making TNT.

 

We should try to make a monster-grinder later on as we develop the town.

 

I don't know if it's the server or just my crappy 3G, but it's unplayably laggy right now. My chat messages show up around a minute and a half after I enter them, as does any action I perform, and anything beyond a 20-block radius or so of where I log in just fails to load.

no, no way to name them yet(i'm sure theres a mod). Had a good time building on the server tonight. Next step is a road between the viking village (old spawn) and the grand central station (new spawn). old spawn is about 300 blocks north of new spawn.

 

speaking of monster farming, that is what the hidden 3rd floor of my viking village is going to be.

That or it could be a viking arena to test your might

You know how traditional MC arenas are build like right? glass/wool floors with deep lava underneath; when two people fight (naked with stone swords) they both slash at each other and at the floor, which gradually dwindles in foothold until someone dies to either blade or lava.

Hey deagle, do you have control over texture packs and such? I think we should make it a little less cryptic since there's dozens of packs better than the vanilla.

DokuCraft light is just breathtaking compared to the normal textures.



Also, you should try to get a custom ambient music plugin. That could make the arena fights more interesting .

 

I thought texture packs are independent of the server?

I have the Photo Realistic pack installed and makes a lot of the textures brighter and clearer

Does anyone know how to use currency yet? I always get a bunch of money from killing stuff, but how do I spend it and get goods? i know you can use /money to check or something.

What's the name of the currency mod we're using?

DEagle said that the currency can be used for trading, e.g. I want something from you, I pay this much for it etc...well I think there's more to that though.

 

Oh. I was hoping there'd be a "store" we could build, and "buy" items out of a "chest" or an "in-game store menu".

That would make more sense to me...because what good is money to the person who has all the goods? He has nobody to buy stuff from. Bartering seems more equal in that respect, lol. I was hoping for something a little more valuable.

Fill a chest and lock, create a sign, and people can buy items from it. This would be great if we want to have a 'mall' where everyone can set up shop. Then you can sell items without needing to attend your store.


There's also a "bettershop" plugin that can be used for a global server shop. It lets players buy and sell to the server's global shop. I like this idea better .

 

Glad to see no creepers have blown up my wall yet

By the way, if you're using the road, the fences are there for protection but they're not foolproof. Spiders can still climb right over them, as I learned in a nasty ambush last night, and skeletons can still shoot over them. Zombies can't hit you though, and I'm not sure about creepers.

Also, Waterwizard/Redrazor, could you please remove your lock from the homeless shelter door? Not even mods can remove locks set by other people, and having the door locked kinda defeats the purpose of a shelter.

 

I wish i could add more stuff to the server, but the truth is that i dont think this VPS host can support the higher load. D:
Already got a increase when i enabled monsters.
Il add the shop stuff but anything else must wait until i get a better host or buy dedicated hardware.

No big deal in the server side DEagleson. We're thrilled t o even have a community server.

 

If you could unlocj it with /cremove that would be great.
Saves me the hassle with reading up on LWC admin part.
