My vote goes to Killing Floor. It's fun, but very repetitive and very easy to die a bulls*** death. Perks take forever to level up, and you're just about useless on any difficulty above Normal without perks at level 5/6. I've had the game over a year and I still don't have a single perk above level 4.
Black Ops is easily the worst of the Call of Duty series, I think. I don't care for it either, but you're really missing out on some of the earlier titles. CoD4:MW is still one of my favorite games of all time, and the original CoD, UO and CoD2 are great.
Also, I'm going to go against the grain here, but...I like Halo. The original Halo: Combat Evolved was so much fun, and it looked great for a game that came out in 2001...I've dumped so many hours into that game on PC, it's not even funny.

Gears of war.

Command and Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight ._.

Rehashing, but...
Halo
Call of Duty 4 and onwards
Far Cry 2
Counter Strike -
I find most of the new games overrated, simply because I played similar genres before. I got bored of pretty much:
- any FPS after Wolfenstein, Doom and Unreal
- any RTS after the original C&C and Warcraft 1,2
- sports simulations since the first few NBA, FIFA, etc.
Rarely I find something I haven't played before that feels original. I like the Fallout series and Championship manager the most I guess. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Was that even considered a RTS??? lol... -
GTA Liberty City, San Andreas, GTA 4.
Far Cry 2 -
call of duty: Command and conquer edition!

Portal

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I presume thinking in portals caused you virtual motion sickness?
-
Homefront
Portal
L4D
COD Black Ops
Far cry 2 -
Gears of War.
Game is horribly sluggish, boring, the plot sucks. The language the characters use is goofy at BEST.
I hate the colors, the guns have no handling. The chainsaw is over powered. -
i cried a little inside wen you just mention that ridcoulously awsome game
....
but my feeeling's aside
Oblivion: ergh the first game ive ever fallen asleep while playing in the middle of the day.
Far cry 2:i was really phyced about this game but ....i duno just count get into it
Gears of war: its not fun..imo
Halo: feels generic and isnt as great as most people say.
CONSOLE GAME ALERT -Final Fantasy Xlll -Really i hated this with a passion infact i hated it so much i havent bough a full price game since -
Final Fantasy VII,
Mass Effect,
Empire: Total War,
Halo 2, 3, Reach,
That is just about all that I can think of off the top of my head. (Note: I would say COD, but I haven't played them for any significant amount of time after COD4, which I did actually enjoy) -
The same. Halo is great!
Whatever.
Heroes of Might and Magic 5 -
You're going to be surprised then at the lack of coverage whatsoever for iteration 6 released later this year.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Empire: Total War's reputation got ruined by the immense loads of bugs that ruined game play. I personally think Napoleon is better cause they ironed out the nasties... Also, Mass Effect was good! However the PC Version gets finicky quite often vs. the X360 version. -
No, Empire just plain sucked. The AI was literally worse than playing my younger sister. I would've returned it if I could. Mass Effect was, in my opinion, like flinging rocks at pigeons. It could be fun for some people, it just isn't for me.

Shadow Run ..... Looked so cool and had a great concept. Competitive arena style fps and add magic to the mix.
Made me think of one of my favorite FPS of all time Jedi Knight.
The ability to use guns, lightsabers, and force powers added so many extra layers of depth that a regular fps does not have, and I thought shadow run was going to be the new age version of Jedi Knight.
I was so wrong, and the game sucked so bad.
And I paid the full $50 price for it, it still hurts my pride when I think about it. -
Whoever said God of War must be an Xbox fanboy.

The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
Yeah, thats how many people have it with the game, and one of my friends LOVE the game too. I really wanna understand why but i just cant get into it.... -
not everything is for everyone. I can't seem to get into Metro 2033, Mass effect, and others, where others absolutely love them.
-
The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
:O i thought metro 2033 was one of the best games i have ever played in my life!! Thats probably because i love those post apocalyptic games, for example i have completed fallout 3, 6 times
but then again not all games is for everyone ; ) but i have to agree with you on mass effect 1, i just cant get into that game, and then the second one was amazin IMO...
-
Call of duty series since MW2
Two Worlds II
Crysis 2
Homefront (big time)
Mass Effect 1 (I preferred the second one better) -
Fallout 3 (with no DLC). Too short, too small, not open-ended. Apart from Megaton, no charisma in the places and characters you meet.
The upside is Jericho's lines, I can't remember any one of them but I remember they were the highlight of the game for me. -
The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
That is probably the last thing fallout 3 is in my opinion.... there is so much to be found and discovered and lots of lots of cool places, but if your just up for the story that might be true... -
I can't remember everything I did, but I'm sure I did the story missions last, i.e. when I had completed everything else in my journal. I also wandered around finding quests, although I didn't follow any guide or walkthrough. I still found F3 way too short when compared with great RPGs like Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate, Morrowind, Elder Scrolls, etc.
I plan to play it again on my desktop, because the first time I played it my laptop was underpowered for it. Maybe that will change my mind. -
The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
Heh it probably will a little bit, even though Fallout 3 doesn't have the best graphics it sure as hell looks good on best graphical option. That ads a lot to the experience. But having gained so many hours from Fallout 3 might be a special case for me i guess... i just set my mind to find every single place in the game. I was very happy when i found all (especially since i dident use a guide either)
-
The Happy Swede Notebook Evangelist
Ohh i just thought of The Witcher, i heard so many people talk about how amazing an RPG this was and that it was one of the best they ever played. But i just cant get pass the first 2 hours....
-
Jak II and God of War, both games got 90 percent or more in Power Unlimited and OPM2 (Belgian journal) and I didn't have any fun in playing them. I played each game like 1 hour, maybe 2 at the most.
-
Metro is OK but I say that because it is Ukrainian Game
But of course book is much better. Mass Effect books are also fine.
-
The latest Medal of Honor.
What a lame game and WAY over hyped
Doesnt hold a candle to the original.
Liked Black Ops more -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I agree. The Medal of Honor reboot was bloody awful in every aspect. The SP was a badly written version of Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 and the MP was a bad rip off hybrid of Bad Company 2 and Black Ops. -
Have we met before?
. Remember hpt, kw, and halo ce? Aww man that stuff was FUN.
-
What's SP?
-
I disagree on COD's and L4D's, I think they deserve all the buzz, they are great hgames.
However, BFBC2 was terribly overrated for me... I dislike the gameplay and it is very buggy... it just doesn't feel right... -
single player
(oops... sorry for the double post...) -
FFVII wasn't an amazing game. It was an amazing game in context... it was the first 3D RPG with a really in-depth story, and so on. Yes, it was a silly story at many points, but part of the reason it's held on a pedestal is the same reason that Super Mario Brothers or Pac-Man is... it's the breakthrough game for many, many people.
And for those of you bagging on L4D2, it's because it's not your style of game. I personally love that I don't have to invest hours in it to be competent. I don't have to put in 40 hours a week playing a game to compete at the same level as other players. What fun is a game where you're perpetually at a disadvantage compared to the other players because you have a real life as well as like playing games? -
At least you managed to get 2hrs out of it .. i think i played like 15-20 then deleted the whole thing.
-
After reading the thread we can learn that every game is overrated pretty much. Except for "good old games" ofc. So i guess the grass was greener at some point.
Maybe its just your perception of the world that changed?
-
More like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Any game will be overrated to someone. Like Fallout 3 in my case, if I didn't like it but loads of people did, well, it must be a good game, I just didn't like it...
-
Heathen.

I agree with GamingAcu. if you think one of the best RPG's is overated I wonder why its sold so many copies?
-
Yeah, there's certain aspects of games that appeal to me like quick in and out. I prefer in depth and long detailed games, but these days I don't have time for that so much. Wish I could spend a lot more time with Civ 5 and Sins of a Solar Empire (SoaSE 2 is coming out too! :eek), but just can't dedicate the time like I used to. My free time comes in 15-30 minute increments.
This is all personal opinion. There's a reason games got huge accolades yet doesn't appeal to you. It's just interesting to see what games got great reviews/ratings so you bought yet were still disappointed. -
Didn't know SoaSE 2 was coming out, is it going to have a story this time? I've only managed to actually play about 5 games of SoaSE, the first few were short (2-3 hours), the 4th was about 10 hours, and I'm currently in the middle of a "huge/5galaxy map" with 10 players, about 12 hours in, but I think I've got my $30 worth.
-
Yeah. It's great fun, but can become very complex too. I got quite annoyed one game basically chasing one guy around trying to keep him from sniping base to base. Eventually I found one of his main planets and destroyed it. He stopped after that, lol.
I will see if I can find the link to SoaSE 2. I swear I saw and read it but can't find anything on it now. I don't know why they wouldn't. I mean no copy protection yet it made tons of profit. -
Off the top of my head, Halo and Dragon Age.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I dont like medieval 2 total war, its boring. There is little on it for you to play with, and without mods, I cant even get 50 turns out of it, with mods I can usually finish a campaign. This is sad since I have 100h + out of each total war, shogun 2 is already at 51h.
I never enjoyed the FF7, the history was pretty dull, but I really liked FF8, although the story was also bad, I liked for some strange way.
COD 1 is the only fps that I really like, all the others are about the same, well everything after wolfenstein and jedi knight is the same -
Radium sold in vast quantities as a cure for just about everything. Good sales does not mean good product, as I'm sure many customers later learned. FFVII didn't kill me, but playing something else was vastly more rewarding.
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Kind of like TES IV: Oblivion. Sold really well, but in all seriousness was really boring and dry.
