Vice City results @ 459MHz:
Running at 1024x768, 32 bit colour. Fps of 30-50 in general use, 60 in cut scenes (frame limiter off) with standard draw distance. My preference is frame limiter on and extended draw distance (not max but not far off), which gives 22-30 fps (capped at 30) in general use. Over all, I'm very happy with this performance!
So, the x200m can play vice city, probably pretty well at standard clocks too. -

Way off-topic:
How come there isn't a NBR ATI Underclocking Team thread for us folks who are on underclocked nc8430's, MacBook Pro's and HEL80's? -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Actually you are right! We should call it the NBR ATI Tweak Team. I think underclocking deserves the same place as overclocking. But I am sure that people with underclock results are welcome here! So it is not off-topic at all!
Charlie -
It is negative overclocking I guess.

As I said earlier, I'm not that strict with what is posted in here as long as it deals with computer hardware/video cards/video games. Feel free to post your underclocking results.
I have gotten my X700 down to 100:100, although I usually let PowerPlay take care of the underclocking for me because it also undervolts, and there is a far less chance of locking up (which extreme underclocking can do). On PowerPlay, my X700 goes down to 209:182. -
Got 4396 3DMark05 last night. Used ATI tray tools to set the clocks (502/405). Is this the best utility for optimizing an ATI card? Or is ATITool better? Also, is Notebook Hardware Control better than Power4Gear? I like being able to use the utility buttons on my Z96J (Email, Internet, Wireless, P4G), will NHC work with the power settings button?
Zack -
Well, I'm back on Windows (Armed Assault is out and imported!) so I'm back into the overclocking group. (I also have to squeeze every drop out of this card, as ArmA absolutely kills it.

NHC has Asus hotkeys that work great (for what I heard). I prefer NHC, great program, looks nice and very easy to use. It uses a lot of memory though
I have never tried Power4Gear.
Charlie -
It just seems logical to me.
I am a big fan of OFP and I play it even now after 4 years. The best overall game for me ever. I can't wait to get ARMA, but I would prefer english version.
GPU killer you say? I hope my x700 will manage to show some decent framerates at normal res. Overclocking is a must I guess. Post your findings, I am most interested in your ARMA experience with OC card.

GTA San Andreas results @ 459MHz:
Running at 1024*768, low detail and draw distance. often at the 25fps frame limiter, otherwise doesn't dip below 19fps. The low detail and draw rate don't seem to have too much of an effect, the graphics don't look quite as warm and magical as they did on more powerful cards I have had but still very playable. So much so I might just start it again for the 3rd time or so!
What gets me is the huge turf wars in Los Santos, it takes SO long to win all that turf. I did it once then changedf computers andlost my savegame!
Anyone know if there's a downloadable savegame for SA with just Los Santos complete? I have got that far before but never further. Cheers. -

As i said on the thread I started about it i have found a possible solution, a savegame database with one for every mission, so hopefully that'll work ok.

Oh WOW...
it's a shame I have an ancient nVidia GPU. -

Yeah, tried overclocking it?
You got a nice panel though -

What do you guys think of an NBR "clan"? Not really a clan per se, but you could add an {NBR} tag or something before your name in an online game such as Counter-Strike. It would be kind of neat.
-
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
I could try that for War Rock

Noted. Maybe I'll see you in the games, although I can't seem to get Steam's buddylist system working so we'll just have to rely on pure luck to bump into one another.
-
What games do you play guys? NBR clan sound nice to me.
I play Fear Combat online most of the time. But time difference could be a problem.
Ivan -
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
War Rock on and off, that's the only online one right now. I'm usually up quite late so i reckon we could get a game in Ivan!
-
I play FEAR Combat a little bit, along with Natural Selection. I don't place much stock in games I have to pay for.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
I also play Halo and Halo Custom Edition online, but most of the servers have terrible lag and I have not played them much recently.
I think the clan is a cool idea too - what kind of tag does everyone like? {NBR}, [NBR], -=NBR=- - or whatever else you want to suggest. I personally like [NBR] because it is rather simple and to the point. I'll go with whatever everyone else likes best, I'm not set on anything. -
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
I like {NBR}
I could of course get FEAR and play with you guys but trying to run it on my x200m would be hilarious! -

I think we need some perspective here people!
I had a Trident Cyberblade 16mb in my old portege. It wouldn't play any but the most basic games (from 1994 or so) and even then it wouldn't even resize the game to fit the screen, just display it on a block in the centre of the screen with black bars around it. The cpu had to take up the slack half time for this miserable IGP and when I had an msn window with the animated fish background up the cpu temp would go up by 20 degrees C!
THAT is cr*p. SiS IGPs are Cr*p. Intel 915 is pretty Cr*p. x200m is not cr*p, it's very good for an IGP! U wanna pay for a new laptop for me with a go 7600 then be my guest otherwise stop being mean to my L100. She's lovely! -
ATI Catalyst Control Center has a feature under Digital panel properties called image scaling that allows you to change from centered timings or scale to full screen. I have been using ATI Tray Tools and have not been able to locate a similar feature. Does it exist on ATI Tray tools or have I just not looked in the right place? I was wanting to give the centered timings a try on BF2, since with the game scaled to full screen it gets a bit distorted on my Z96J @ 1280X1024. Thanks.

I dunno, I just tried it and the MOUT training thing is utterly unpassable... I fin it hard to tell which ones are mean and which are innocent, and also finding the time to hit them all in the 5 odd seconds they give you...
I also find it kinda slow but that could be my x200m. -
Control is my speciality - and I am usually very good at it. I use Penetrator and don't like unarmed kicks. I am a team player, not a single DM lover. I die with a grenade in my hand. Beware.
And jess paws - perhaps Fear COmbat works well for you on min settings - because friend of mine plays it with ati 9550 64MB very well.
[NBR] looks good to me.
Ivan -
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
Ivan, can you tell me more about FEAR combat? Do you have to buy FEAR to get it? I doubt it'd run at all well on here, even a 9550 is a third more powerful than this! I'd need 2Gb ram I think so my GPU could take 256mb.
-
No, Fear Combat is a free game. You get a free key from them. Online.
A big one though. Multiplayer only.
But it is fun.
I guess it can be an overkill then for 200m. if you can play Fear - you can play Fear combat. I play it at 1280x800 on minimum (around 50fps) because smoke and debris is only making others to shoot you easier. It is fast and no lags like in fear.
War rock runs fine on your system? It looks pretty good.

FEAR combat was the first proper PC game I played and I have to say that after all the time I spent downloading it I was pretty disappointed. Graphics seem to be very uninspired, level design is lacking in dynamics and gameplay felt repetitive. I wish I could give it another chance, but just can't find the time to download it again. What other online games would you guys recommend? -
moon angel Notebook Virtuoso NBR Reviewer
War Rock is good.
Just tried FEAR combat, 800x600, everything low. It's playable, but lags every so often, and the effects make it lag even more like the blood when you die. I think it could really do with 2Gb ram. Maybe after christmas if I have some cash I'll make the upgrade. -

Sorry to hear it Jess. War rock you say - I guess I will have to give it a try next week. I must agree with some of the statements about Fear combat by best foot forward, but again it is so fun! Headshots are great. Grenades too. Penetrator nailing people to the ceiling is even better, and just today I was playing Control with some guys (15 of them) and the battle was so immense that I couldn't see anything. I was scared to kill one of mine and died in the process.Friendly fire. Anyway Ghost Control, Fear Control servers in UK and Germany are great for me - Johnny is the name. I can change it to [NBR]Johnny if there is anyone that appreciates it!
. Say hello if you join.
Who knows I may even try to set some server and invite some people from NBR. I will surely let you know if I manage something.
Cheers,

Hey.. this is ganna sound extremly ignorant-like.. but what is OverClocking, and how can I overclock my video card? (X1400, e1505)
is it like a driver I download? -
Overclocking is the process of making a component in a computer run faster than it is rated to run at. On ATI video cards you can download either ATI Tool Or ATI Tray Tool (They're 2 different programs).
Overclocking can be very dangerous to your computer. Laptops especially. It generates more heat and can cause the component your're overclocking to burn out. -
O wow I missed a lot today. Work=bad
. So anyway, sorry i keep making fun of your crappy x200m Jess. I mean..your NOT crappy x200m of course. I SHOULD buy you a better laptop with a dedicated GPU...I could through paypal..heheh. Hey Jess can your x200m be overclocked? BTW Twilight, I think only a higher end notebook with like a 7900gtx would ever suffer from too much heat from overclocking. An x700 or 7600...not so much. Thankfully. Notebooks GPU's are already dumbed down versions anyway lol.

Love the new avatar Goku!
It came at a stock of 378MHz, I've now got it running at 459MHz.
Edit: Actually I think I'd prefer a Sat Pro A100-828 (X1600) as it'd be more portable. -
i got ati x 1600 hm (512 mb)
so how i can overclock it so games will run faster ...
for example oblivion
what program i have to use and how
atm. im downloading 3dmarks 05 v130 -
ATI Tray Tools.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
As far as how much faster your system will be after overclocking . . don't expect huge increases in performance. If the game is unplayable now, then it is still going to be unplayable after overclocking. Oblivion is such a demanding game (usually 20-25FPS on most systems), that even with an overclock, you won't see more than a couple of FPS increase, if that.
Basically what I'm saying is that don't expect a choppy game before overclocking to become buttery-smooth afterwards. -
Chaz is right, I overclocked for Oblivion and got an average of +2 FPS.
-
ok ..
but he said that i should be very careful, so if ill overclock too much then i can damage my hardware ya ? -
wtf ... i downloaded ati overclocking tool (not this ati tray tool) and clicked on test core or something like this ...
the screen went off or i dunno really what happend but this place where cooler blows out hot air went so hot =/
i pulled out power cable ...
so can somebody tell me how this overclocking think works or where is this window where i can rise GPU speed and see tmeperature at same time ...
i want program waht will show me someting ... lol
i do not want see black screen and w8 till my lappy get damage =0
