If they were planning on releasing it with next gen chips I would expect them to advertise with 'Nvidia GTX graphics' or something like that instead of explicitly stating the GPU. It doesn't really make sense to have one specific GPU in the PR and marketing material if they're going to change it anyway.

I didn't say customizable, but they can manufacture with whatever card they want.

It's already been stated that the 800M series are merely clock increases/power adjustments and optimizations with the current lineup. Much like the GTX 400M to the GTX 500M series.

On top of that, the 765M is plenty powerful when in SLI to handle pretty much any game out there. Provided I can overclock the memory a little, preferably to 5GHz, I think I'll be happy with the performance it puts out.

Does anyone know what display panel it uses? Linus (linus tech tips) says repeatedly that it is a non-TN panel (in two seperate videos he says this during his CES coverage) while an Aorus marketing rep at CES (in a seperate vid) says it is a TN panel.

I was not impressed with the rep's demo or technical knowledge while linus always seems sure of what he says in his videos. But honestly it does look like a TN panel. Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks

Wouldn't know about SLI, but AMD frame pacing is wonderful. No stutter. Ever. Not even Skyrim with ultra-hd mods.

It had great viewing angles whatever it was and was matte which makes me happy too! Just brightness and contrast and gamut are in question obviously. Man, let me loose at CES, I'll have all the detailed specs right off all the computers and run whichever ones through their paces that I can.

    New review just came in.
The benchmark's are awful, something isn't right. Wrong drivers? throttle issue?

    Aorus X7 gaming notebook review
"At 1920 x 1080 resolution on ultra settings, most of these games were not able to hit a playable number of frames per second. Bioshock Infinite averaged at 20.2 FPS; Tomb Raider hit 18 FPS; Hitman Absolution clocked in at 6.5 FPS; Sleeping Dogs came in at 13.3 FPS."

That looks like the english copy of the report they did on Jan 7th

    Gaming

and was posted here by lee_what2004... http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...otebook-unveiled-aorus-x7-25.html#post9522505

But yeah, that didn't look like a favorable review. I don't know what happened, and if it was a fluke/freak prototype with issues, how does that speak of their quality? I would think Aorus would catch such faults before sending this out for reviews.

*I'm reserving judgment until it is officially available to consumers. Also, there are some things brewing at MSI with a new 15" to be revealed soon. So I'm definitely going to wait as long as possible before buying another laptop.

While I think maybe drivers can be playing a part here, I don't necessarily think that is a bad benchmark. Think for example that the single nvidia 780 chip on the Alienware 17 can only run Bioshock Infinite at 35 fps on High (not Ultra).

Than I wonder why I managed to had constant 60FPS on ultra when I played it a couple of months ago (with some overclocking though).

If you look at the screenshots in the review, you'd notice that they ran the gaming benchmarks at 4x supersampling. That is just way too demanding for anything on the mobile side of things I think.. Also I lost some confidence in the technical aptitude of the reviewer when he found different temperature levels in the two GPU's "concerning". Seriously, it would be pure coincidence if the GPU's encounter the exact same amount of thermal resistance.. For all we know the cooling system might not be precisely symmetrical, as is the case in other SLI laptops.

Uh, this isn't true. The 780M runs BI much faster than 35fps, on Ultra.

I've been stalking this thread for a week now, had to register to comment on this laptop.

    1. I don't buy the review. There is just too much to nitpick about the style and quality of the review. Not to mention: Benchmarking was done by the VR-Zone Chinese team. Not super familiar with the vrzone site, but I will await more reviews before passing judgement on the gaming performance.

    2. I wholly expect one gpu to run hotter than the other, as it shares the same pipes as the CPU. From what I can see, one has 2 pipes, and the other 3 + cpu, they do not appear to be connected. However, this is the most well designed laptop I have seen in a while. Who puts their heating elements in the corners to allow for better airflow? It has a very balanced design and heating generating parts are spread out in a what appears to be an efficient design. (also ridiculously easy to swap parts out)

    3. The cards are in SLI. Now, I have never owned an SLI laptop. But I am pretty sure that you can disable one of the gpus to lower heat and extend battery life. Like say, the one sharing heat pipes with the CPU. Would only really consider this with low demand games and when browsing on the battery. But it takes no effort to script the toggle off SLI for games.

    4. Thermal paste. No manufacturer does it right. Even gaming lines can have sloppy pasting. I guarantee that redoing the paste on the heat sinks would improve any temps recorded.

Seriously looking forward to an in-depth review once the models start rolling out.

Edit: Forgot to mention. The review sates dismal performance when gaming. Then proceeds to give it a 9/10. For a gaming laptop. Seriously, if playing the games on max setting weren't that important, why bother using them as content?

    They even said
Probably assembled in a hurry and the CPU paste perhaps was not applied correctly? Who knows. We need more reviews to conclude

Does anyone have a vague idea of when this is supposed to be released? All the release articles I've found say sometime in March, but I saw a video where an Aorus employee mentioning that it would be released in the US at the end of this month. I tried to find an answer by skimming through this thread, but didn't see anything.

Thanks. I expect to be fairly active come March (or whenever this thing releases).

Will likely go barebones model and upgrade the memory to 4x4GB, and replace the HDD with SSD. Curious if the mSata's come with the default model, since the initial pricing only seems to vary ~$700.

This beast is just too good to pass up. I am very surprised they made so many right decisions on the first model.

So long as the heat can be kept within reasonable bounds (before running the cooler pad) and it can manage ~4+ hours battery for non gaming tasks, this is definitely going to be my next gaming purchase.

Got to say, still excited about this machine as well. Curious to see why there seem to be performance discrepancies with the reviews and what we would expect. Hopefully the cooling system holds up.... the machine looks absolutely fantastic in that Verge video.

Really hard to pull the pin on this one considering the Lenovo I just ordered (I'm in Canada) is 1250$ after taxes/shipping.
The X7 is started 2099 (USD?) but factoring in shipping/tax/conversion. that's close to 2500$ CAN. Which is exactly twice the price of the Lenovo...
    But oh so sexy!

One thing I miss with my Alienware 18 which X7 have is aluminum. So easy to clean and I like the cold touch when you rest your palm on it.

I love that other companies are running with the idea Razer started, but making it more practical for gamers. I would definitely buy this machine, if it used the 800m + generation of cards.

To be honest I really want to see what Razer does with the 2014 iteration of the Razer Blade 14... "Razer Blade pro with that gimmicky track pad is just awful".

It has to be a single 765m active only not SLI, the scores are too close to a single 765m. Likely a driver issue or the reviewer didn't know what he was doing.

    Here's where I do the comparison: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...otebook-unveiled-aorus-x7-25.html#post9522539

I like how Aorus has the macros in the side buttons. No fancy screen or UI needed.

The only concern I have is by the time they release, a newer GFX will be out. I wonder if they will stick with the 765m or upgrade to the newer one. As much as I want to get one, ok if it's decent then I will defiantly get one but I might just hold out and wait a revision to see how things goes. I would hate to get one then a few months down the road, they release a revision with an upgraded GFX card. I honestly would be bummed out. I remember Razer releasing a model then a few months later the released a revised model or something like that. Caused a lot of people to be pissed off.

Not their fault. Though one may argue that they did took a long time to launch the model thus leading to a fast replacement.

But from the looks of it, no new gpus will be coming in at least some months. I'm betting the new ones will appear late this year.

Haha, or conversely an extremely warm touch if the cooling system isn't up to snuff! :)

(My M1530 was constructed largely of metal, which I think helped to cool the laptop in some ways, but without a cooling pad the metal palm rest really loved to conduct any extra waste heat to my then sweaty palms!)

Nice! Thanks guys. I got the same response. Let's see what comes of it. It sounds like they really want to get this into the hands of a lot of people for exposure, and smartly so. New brand, new concept, let people know about it. :) If I do get a review sample I just hope they let me tear it apart inside as well.

    Thank you.
Finally we get a new review to look at.

    Summary:
Mobile01 found out, while enabling extreme stress on ALL hardware: GPUs, CPU, HDD and RAM, the CPU runs on average 84C. The very max they saw was 91C, but that was probably when the fan kicked in another notch.

This is a pass in my book and extremely good for such a thin SLI notebook.

    That is one helluva heater.

On a bright side, it will make you warm during the cold winter days as well as save the money on additional heat resources.

It is a pass in my book, I will even take 290x over this beast any day tho.
