That's correct.
If you download the bios mod for clevo p65xSE you get 2 folders...BIOS and vBIOS
-
The plot thickens...
I tried 345.20. It isn't locked on the core BUT it is locked on the VRAM. The slider itself is unlocked (not greyed out), but it resets itself back to 0 when you click on apply in NVIDIA Inspector. So core overclocking is enabled, but VRAM clocks are still locked down.
What does this mean? Is it a sign? -

Uh what cave you been living in. Prema been doing his mods for years.

Just to double check, I used DDU to remove the driver and tried again, after reinstalling it. Same result. Core unlocked, VRAM locked (but not greyed out in NVIDIA Inspector).
EDIT: FALSE ALARM FOLKS! I didn't realise that the wall socket was switched off, it was running on battery the whole time, whoops
It is working fine on AC powerLast edited: Feb 25, 2015ajc9988 and Mr Najsman like this. -
So just to confirm, the Alienware 17 R2s are locked even for the 980m? And you can't flash the vBios?
-
*rofl*
well, for now sticking to 346.87 / modded 347.52 and waiting on ngreedia´s next official "unlocked" driver -

I follow his threads over in techinferno but never saw any links to a DL site. Bundling with batch files is great as well. -

Don't think this has been posted in this thread yet, but there's a good article up on notebookcheck.net that accurately describes our plight with the latest locked down vBIOS that have been starting to ship from NVidia:

Feel free to add to the comments at the link above - it's a well read site so has quite a lot of exposure!Mr Najsman and Cloudfire like this. -

Hi Guys! I think about getting an ASUS G751 JT (with 970M 3GB GDDR5). Does ASUS also ship the Notebooks with a bios overclock lock?
This really is a crucial question for me, so I hope that you can answer that question.
What about the MSI GT72 (with 970M aswell, are these locked, too?? )
I´m really pissed of, nvidia lately does everything within their powers to annoy gamers and play with their customers.
Greetings from Germany.

I have a feeling I will be keeping this profile picture up for quite some time and I don't want to. I won't remove it though till Nvidia stops playing these dumb games....

Ok guys I just ran a quick test on my half functional laptop (with 980m):
Aw17R2 BIOS version: 84.04.29.00.14
Nvidia Driver: 344.73
Can overclock core AND memory using nvidia inspector. Functions as normal overclocking would. Tried +135 mHz on both memory and core.
My vBios dump and GPU-Z info posted:

Asus advertizes a "game mode" that overclocks the gpu by 5%. This is an advertized OEM default feature. Should nvidia block asus's laptops among others, they can be subject to a lawsuit as it would be downright illegal.
I wouldnt worry about the asus being bioslocked for the time being as i dont think nvidia would want to risk another lawsuit on top of their current cases.Alex555 likes this. -
so is there a driver that was just released that re-enables overclock?

I think I will buy the new gaming laptop within the next week, to minimize the risk of a locked vbios.nightingale likes this. -

I would say that food is a little more important than a notebook
And actually I dont think that I have to defend myself for buying a product, I though buying of for a few weeks already -

no money for Nvidia. Grabbing a 2920xm/780m for my r3 and it should last me a couple more years @1080p.

Yeah that's kingsknight from T|I, making as good a case as any for why overclocking is beneficial and should be allowed

Why, nobody has gotten 1500+ core on a 980M?
-
I wonder if I can oc that much too??
what volt is he using? -
Maybe on single GPU if you have a good one
-
I think he's running around 1.162v through that 970m to achieve those clocks. Look at his video showing the laptop, and freeze screen on his NV Inspector.
I added 0.887v (stock max) + .275mV offset.
Not sure how long the 970m will last at that much voltage, even if the temps are fine. -

If he temps are good then i dont think that he will have problems...
My temps at 1320-1478 at 1.05v are 64-65c playing bf4 multy fully stable
And no max fans on -
It's not surprising that 970M has more OC headroom than 980M

It's no wonder Nvidia tried to disable overclocking.
There is just so much OC potential with these 2nd gen Maxwells.Last edited: Feb 28, 2015jaybee83 and Ionising_Radiation like this. -

With Svl7's vBIOS, my 970M can easily hold full boost clocks with 0.95V... These Maxwell chips are unbelieveable!

It was 1.0 something.. I can't remember because literally 1-2 days after I got it, I flashed unlocked vBIOS
No more overclocking on Nvidia mobile GPUs
