As of now, it's not acceleratable. The programs that support it won't accelerate it (last time I checked anyways). You can turn it on in MPC, but it will be slower then (I tried). CoreAVC will add it sometime in the future.

First off Only have one codec pack installed. Remove every thing you got and the install the latest version of CCCP. I Usually watch 720p mkv with my CPU clocked to 1,6GHz. If you open it in Media player Classic (comes with CCCP) you'll get slightly better performance than in WMP. VLC is not as good. But the best is still CoreAVC.

Heh, I'm more than satisfied with my 8600M GT in my 1520, that review seems a bit off. I run bioshock at 30+ fps with almost everything maxed, DX 10 surfaces and all. I've got my card steadily clocked at 625/525 never broke 65 C yet so :).

CCCP is the only codec pack I have installed--I know that you'll have filter/codec conflicts if you install multiple codec packs. I also use Media Player Classic to play all my media files.

It works fine, but it seems that during certain "scenes" where there are a lot of "action" and "colour", the video would chug--Kind of weird, since every single pixel is still being processed even when there isn't as much colour on the screen, right? There shouldn't be any difference between a really dark scene and a scene filled with colour, in theory...

That only occured for a Blu-Ray 720p movie that was ripped and converted into a .mkv.

None movie 720p .mkv's play without any hic-cups (in general)... Odd. Maybe it's just that particular file's fault.

EDIT: If I use CoreAVC, would I have to uninstall CCCP to avoid conflict? Or is that not necessary?
By the way, what program are you using to measure your GPU's temperature?

I use SpeedFan and nMonitor (NVIDIA Monitor, it comes with nTune), but nMonitor reports 7C cooler temperature than SpeedFan, weird .

:O i was wondering: doesn't the 8600m gt crack up when it goes above 600 or is it 650?? i thought it was 600. anyway to test the artifacts for 8600m gt? i use ati tool but i guess it isn;t stable enough for nvidia, ill need different software. thks

Looks like you were right, certain player accelerates certain files, I got the new WMP 11 with acceleration for WMV and tested on a downloaded PureVideo 1080p demo, and it had reduced cpu usage by roughly 10%, which was pretty good imo. The file I was testing before under 720p was mkv, which apparently could not be accelerated at all. :(

Umm... The Core clock IS the stream processor's clock.

You CANNOT clock the stream processors individually. They run at the same clock as the "Core clock".

Mine is running flawlessly at 625/525, no shutdowns, no excessive temps, nada. I use the nvidia monitor to check and also used riva tuner but they are about the same give or take a few degrees sometimes, regardless I haven't even reached 65 C on either one of them yet, so I'm not too worried at all.

That's the shader clock, correct. The "core" clock is for the ROP's I beleive. You can overclock the shader's in the newest Rivatuner, with >163.44 drivers, I believe.

anybody know why i sometimes get this miniscule amount of lag every couple of seconds ingame (CoD4) ... its like the whole computer freezes for just this really small amount of time (under 1 second..) im going to install earlier drivers WITHOUT any GPU overclocks and see if that solves my problems......... cause it worked fine before.

Cooling pad is a waste :p

My notebook runs BF2 at 52C with everything at high, using a USB hub under the battery.

It also helps that my house is so freeking cold ;)

RivatTuner, or look at the stock clock, 400 mhz memory is DDR2. and 700 mhz is GDDR3.

Fabarati, my laptop is an HP DV9653CL, 2.2GHz T7500, 4GB ram, 320GB HDD, 8600M GS. Costco price was $1399 with a 90 day unconditional return. My first choice was a ASUS an Newegg but the 90 day test drive sold me.

Asus G1S-A1, 8600M GT. But, I'm not a hard core gamer although I play Crysis (low settings) and COD4 (medium settings). I'm contemplating fooling around with the clock speeds. What's safe for the 8600M GS.

Your laptop has DDR2 video memory. Rivatuner is not accurate for mobile cards. You could try Everest or GPU-Z to confirm this, but if you just look at your clock speeds you'll see the mem is at 400mhz, i.e. DDR2.

I'm going out on a limb here, but why haven't you guys just used Coolbits to enable the Clock Frequency menu in the nV Control Panel? Or does that not work with mobile cards...I don't see any reason it shouldn't.

The screen is awesome. I have a 9500t myself and I’m a casual gamer. Actually the only game I can play for more than a few minutes(before losing interest) is CS:S. I’d recommend the 169.04 drivers and installing RivaTuner to adjust the clock up the factory spec keeping in mind it is DDR2. I didn’t have good results with ntune I’m guessing because there was no adjustment for the shader clock. In small increments take it up to 600/1200/450 that will give you stable performance and a 3DMark06 score of about 2850 if you take the memory clock up to 480 you will get a score of about 2950 but every once in a while(rarely) I would experience a driver crash at this setting.

Just picked up a 3dmark06 score of 3421. I think it's decent, but is there anyway for my to improve it?

I've got a small amount of experience overclocking, but have only dabbled in GPU overclocking once. Any help would be appreciated. (I.E the utilities I should obtain to help me overclock).

Well, having the newest drivers can increase the score, as well as making sure all unnecessary programs and processes are closed.

For overclocking, I personally like Rivatuner. There are plenty of great guides around if you google for them, one on Rivatuner's forum.
