I OCed my QuadroFX 570M (equiv. 8600M GT)

Core: 475 Mhz to 650 Mhz
    Memory: 700 Mhz to 1000Mhz

it's stable and temp goes from 84°C to 91°C under heavy load.

That's a scary overclock. I only seriously overclock the memory clock; the core clock artifacts for me at ~600

NWN2 is a "relatively" old game, so the 8600M GT should handle it without a sweat at 1280 x 800.

Thanks for the reply, do you think I should go with Vista or stick with XP does it make much difference in game preformance.

    Zepto 3415w with T7300, vista 32bit, 8600m gt 512mg ddr2 @ 636/475 (yeah, I got good core and bad memory :p) - 4200 3dmark06 points!

The scary thing is my internal fan isn't even on until the CPU test in 3dmark.. only fan on is the one in the notebook cooler.

That's right about normal. I have 4473 with the system in my signature in XP Pro 32-bit and 169.09.

I'm hoping to break the 4500 barrier with a different driver.

Just a note for you guys quoting 3DMark scores - numbers are ONLY valid at the default resolution of 1280x1024. If you have a 1280x800 screen, unfortunately you cannot compare your results to anyone running the default resolution as they will be artifically inflated.

    169.09 I clock my gpu from 470 --> 550
    and from 635 --> 890

It makes a pretty large difference. It smoothed out gears of war and ut3 on high settings and worked wonders for crysis.

I'm running 169.09's on my 8600MGT (Dell Inspiron 1520), and it always downclocks the GPU to try to save power. For example, when taking the Source Video Stress Test on all low settings, I get worse FPS than if I took it on all high settings. No settings will allow me to stay above 30FPS constant, even though the card is capable of holding a steady 100+ FPS in Source.

Can I just O/C to manually set the clock speeds and avoid this? What programs are you guys using to O/C? I remem when the 1520's first came out, the clock speeds wouldn't "stick" in RivaTuner, etc.

Using the newest Rivatuner I have no problems, and have it auto-clock when windows is restarted as well.

You can set the 2D clocks to whatever you want, but I don't recommend it. This will increase the heat output and lower your battery life (if using the battery).

^It seems that my problem is with the Low-3D settings, and those are locked. :(

I restarted my computer, and now RivaTuner won't even detect clock speeds, and even if I choose to "Restart" it won't do anything after the restart. Even if I also set it to AutoStart with Windows via registry key.

    Oh well, I'll try ATITool.

It relies on the driver to detect speeds. I would try uninstalling your Nvidia driver and starting over, with the latest laptopvideo2go modified drivers.

Then get the latest version of Rivatuner, if you don't have it already. I have v2.06 and everything is flawless here.

Ati Tray Tools, which I use for initial artifact testing during overclocking, also properly detects the 2D, Low 3D, and Performance 3D clocks on my 8600M GT correctly.

Yeah, with my core 470 > 650 and memory 700 > 1000, I went from 800x600 Medium-low to 1024x768 all medium, it became much better! With UT, went from 1024x786 with vivid postprocessing and max details to 1280x1024 with intense postprocessing and max details.

Tried the 169.17 driver, huge improvement. =)
New score of 4946. Mind you I'm benching @ 1280x800, so that would be lower if I had a better screen.

Just food for thought my clocks were set at 650/1300/550.
I'm going to underclock the shader a bit as I've heard people get success with 1200.

Conditions were pretty much the same as the other tests, only difference being I'm in a slightly colder room today than I was previous tests. Negligible to me, but might have made a difference in my readings.

Depends on the card, and the original score. A 1280x1024 test has to render 28% more pixels than a 1280x800 test, to give you an idea of the numbers involved.

Too many factors between to two to be able to calculate anything. Guaranteed we are both unique users with unique habits. With that being said, everything minus our hardware is different, so all app's etc will affect the score.

I'd anticipate a score 5-600 lower than what I'm getting now if I were to have a 1280x1024 screen. Just a rought estimate, so don't quote me on that.

Omega drivers themselves are modified--supposedly tweaked for better performance and quality. I've never used them (since they are based on really old Forceware drivers and I just can't be bothered to "downgrade", so to speak), so I can't give an objective response regarding its quality.

Laptopvideo2Go, on the other hand, simply provides you with modified .INF files to install the OFFICIAL drivers from nVidia.

Is this one on Laptopvideo2Go (without modded .INF file) official nVidia driver?

Laptopvideo2go drivers are like Official x's infinite...

Typically the only OFFICIAL MOBILE drivers you can get are from your PC manufacturer, but I'm sure there are a few exceptions to the rule.

Technically, no... not from nVidia themselves.

There ARE official mobile drivers... From the manufacturer ;).

You see, when it comes to mobile GPU's, the manufacturer themselves have to be in charge of distributing the graphics drivers--not nVidia.

In fact, the latest driver from Dell for the mobile GPU's are based the 156.X series, I believe...

Alright, so here's the deal. I recently updated my forceware, and when I go to OC, it "works". However, in rivatuner, as soon as I hit "okay" where you adjust all the slides for the clocks, it reverts back to default clocks.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? I've been using the same process for the other couple of forcewares I've tried.

alright thank you for the response. I am using Japanese drivers atm and is forceware a driver? I would like to know which driver is best suited for all around gaming (DOD, NFS Prostreet, GTA SA, Bioshock) , and will rivatuner work on a japanese os? currently with ALL settings at maximum and anti aliasing set at 8X i get a steady 23 fps ( with default drivers)..

    thanks

low/med and what fps will it have?

And will Vaio fz21z 2.2GHz, 2GB, 256mb + turbocache up to 1023 VRAM 8600gs run run it as well?

Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone has any advice...

I just bought an Asus G1s with 32bit Windows Vista and an 8600m gt. I have the latest drivers (169.28) from laptopvideo2go but i'm still getting bad performance on COD4. My fps temporarily drops down to like 3 ever 5 minutes or so and then jumps back up to 60-70 if i pause it for a minute. I'm running it in XP compatibility mode, i've tried putting all the settings on low, and i've tried numerous drivers but nothing seems to help. I was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions to get it to stop doing this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You shouldn't need to run COD4 in XP Compatibility mode. I don't know if this will help but, Is your battery fully charged when playing? G1s has this bad glitch where it doesn't perform to 100% when battery isn't fully charged and plugged in to the powerpak.

what are the latest and best working drivers for the 8600m gt on a vista 32 bit system?

    169.25 or 169.28

and i get them from laptopvideo2go.com right?
and does the driver scanner they have work properly and give you the best drivers?

    thanks :)

I use 169.28 and have used 169.21... i still get lots of random fps drops, stuttering and unplayable games like cod4 (sometimes) and ut3 :/

I simply dont get it why the 8600m is so DAMN crappy. It's performance is great, it gets fine scores and it runs like butter the first 10min of gaming! no matter game! after that things just start to happen randomly, and only gets worse.... so sick of it..

The dell drivers are actually probably older versions of the nvidia drivers. Dell drivers are in no way better. Often there might be compatibiity fixes for specific problems or issues with dells.
