better compatibility probably, but from what I've experienced, lame performance. I can live with an occasional game crash if I'm getting much better performance.

Has anyone else had problems with 169.25 on vista? (vista x64) they simply wont install right, never recognizes the graphiccard. Pretty wierd.. had no problems with the rest of the 169.xx. makes no difference if i use those from nvidia.com or laptopvideo2go or whatever. modded inf used, tried the one for 169.21 (works) too, same thing.

Try Driver Cleaner or Driver Sweeper thats free. If something is left over by the nvidia uninstaller, that programs can give some help removing that older files and registry keys.

I get 57 fps in the css stress test , using dells custom drivers!
-> got a geforce 8600 gt and 2 ghz core 2 duo
everything at high / and max aa and stuff!
What about you guys , what do people with different drivers get ? I wanna see if there is an actual performance boost by using laptopvideo2go drivers. -
What version are the dell drivers?S
-
.
-
So I get 57 fps with everything MAXED , except VS ofcourse!
Anyone ? I wanna see if newer drivers will actually boost the performance. -
what resolution are you running it at? 1440x900? I got 60 PFS with 16xAA and 16xAF at 1280x800, stock clocks. at 1440x900 it was around 44 FPS. I'm running the 169.04 drivers, and was getting about the same with the 169.25. I'll post my overclocked results later. I'd you run the benchmark with your overclock?
EDIT: at a 500/445 overclock, my results were 67 FPS as 12x8 and 50 FPS at 14x9. I couldn't stably overclock my memory to 458 like yours... so I left it at the highest stable overclock of 445. -
*edit* ups nvm i didnt read that first part , thanks a lot.
So you get just 3 fps more , I dont think its worth updating my driver for that :/
Yeah I think 458 is the absolute max i can do , just 1 mhz more and many artefacts will occur
Oh I read some posts in this forum where ppl could get 500+ mhz , which seems so much to me ! -
And Chrusti, what driver version is the one you are using? The stock ones or the latest taken from the Dell homepage? What is it's driver number?
-
I just noticed that dell has new ones R173730 , I will try them now -
Hmm, run Dxdiag, go to the display tab and post the driver version stated there.

today i was horified with the performance of the 8600m GT in battlefield 2 and company of heroes. in battlefield 2, i am getting 20~30fps in bf2 on the highest while 20~60fps on the lowest.. and getting >30fps in company of heroes i don;t get it..
-
-
well i have to check right now. i am on xp so i don;t know. however my score for 3dbench06 is close to 3000 with 196.04 i think there i something wrong. i lost 400points already. i don;t know why exactly but i am sure it is either drive or my gpu is gone insane. little help plz?
-
-
now it is at 1700points in vista T.T omg.
is it because i am running on the external screen?
op got it back to 3000 by your suggestion but where is 400points? -
what's the screen res that u've used for testing?
-
i don;t think it doesn;t matter. i don;t have pro or other one. i just only have that resolution. and currently i am using external dell monitor instead of laptop's -
i don't think it should matter.
whenever u reinstalled those drivers, did u do a clean install(meaning u deleted the previous drivers)? did u check u power settings? -
power setting brought it up but i don;t really do the "clean" install. i mean if i do that the computer would go back to the dell drivers. so i just update it using the i have the disk method. however this shouldn;t matter. i did this for 10 times already.
-
it's always better to clean stuff up b4 u move on to the next best thing.
all i do is, i uninstall the old ones from the control panel, restart in safe mode and use driver cleaner pro to clean up some crap that was left over, after that just restart in normal mode and install the new ones. take less than 5 minutes literally. -
-
When you got 3400 pts, what screen were you using? Because 3000 is just about right for a 1280x1024 score.
-
-
Were you overclocked? Because at stock clocks, the 1700 will not get 3400 in 3dmark06 at 1280x1024.
-
that might be true..
i better check -
it is possible to hit 3400 range with default clock
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=199469
scroll down to bottom. he has 1500 but i mean it is just same configuration as mine and i am using 196.09 driver -
I assume you mean lozanogo? He was running at 1280x800, not 1280x1024.
-
Anyone tested out either the new omega drivers or drivers from Tweakforce with vista ?
-
-
I tried the XG 169.04's last night and I lost a few frames compared to 169.04
-
try omega's 169.21(that's for xp) or 169.25(vista). i'm on 21's right now and performing way better than 169.04 from l2g
-
Omega for some unknown reason doesnt make vista x64 drivers :/
But i just installed 169.04 l2g today, and hit the best score i 3dmark (stock) ever. 3998 in 1280x768 without ocing. -

I still dont get why niether Nvidia or any of the laptop producent have come up with a solution to the worldwide HUGE problem with the 8600m gfxcards and their stuttering problems? I don't buy the stuff about that it is a driver issue, because this only happens on these cards (some 8800 has been reported too i think, but the 8xxx series), and the drivers all around run just fine on other cards, like my older 7600 go.
It's quite silly if you ask me, i have multi thousand dollar laptop which in games are completely useless at the moment because even though the gfxcard can produce fine speeds, games just stutter/lag/jump-around call it what you want so much its unplayable. The only game ive been able to mostly fix is WoW by limiting the game to go over 50 fps max. that works as long the game is between 45-50 fps, when it goes to 41 the stuttering gets back.
For me it seems like even small fps changes over a short time makes the 8600 stutter like HELL. Which only happens on other series with huge fps changes over short time. like from 100 to 30fps.
So whats the damn deal anyway ?!? Do we need a 8600m BIOS update ?! or when will this stupid malfunction end.... yeah i know people who dont have a clue since its out of ours (the users) hands. But im beginning to become one unhappy and very disapointed laptop user.
That's all for now ;-) -
what about overclocked? -
hey.
im not quite sure what to do with video drivers and whatnot..
but what are the latest and best drivers for the 8600m gt and where can i get them?
im running vista 32 bit ps.
thanks -
I can advice either 169.25 or 169.04 (im using these at the moment and they seem to be fast).
www.laptopvideo2go.com is the place to find your drivers. -
-
There you go i get 3560 points with my vostro 1500 , using my standart dell drivers!
http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=13018307
Since you get just 190 points more i dont think its worth updating them :/ -
i think something is wrong. i mean 3560 on demo with the "demo" resolution? man you can even beat big v's score on that. -
If you check his sig...he is running XP...Direct X 10 is for Vista. -
good point
but it is true that he can beat big v's score
with what big v's test resolution was -
ill try them out -
but that interesting haha. too bad i already installed new ones..
i have a vostro 1500 also
but my problem is with some random fps drops in battlefield 2142 so ill see -
-
i am not sure if this is supposed to only be about the 8600m gs,
but the 8600m GT 256mb in my MBP gets 4120 in 3dmark06 with the basic demo settings. and 7736 in 3dmark05
this is using the 167.44 drivers provided by Apple for bootcamp.
