Yeah, performance wise the HD2600XT is neck and neck with the 8700M-GT, meant for gaming computers if you want DX10 (and don't want to wait for 256-bit DX10 cards). I imagine the 8700GTX or 8800 or whatever they want to call the card rumored to be released this winter, will crush it, and it probably wont be till sometime H1 next year that we see an HD27/8/900 card.
-
I just ordered a V2S with the 8600GS. Hopefully it'll be more than adequate for today's games and ready for tomorrow's.
-
a 8600GS will almost certainly not be ready for tomorrow
you should get at least the 8600GT -
Please get your facts straight. 2600XT is based off the 2600 Core. There is no way you could get a 2900 based core into a 17 inch based notebook let alone 15 inch model unless it was and I mean severely castrated.
-
First of all, note that I said that it was unconfirmed. Secondly, it is "castrated" if by that you mean that it uses a 128-bit memory bus speed (which is the max currently in sub-17" computers). As for my facts, well, there not facts nor did I ever claim them to be facts. However, they're pretty strong rumors at this point, and I have to ask what kind of knowledge do you have relating to the HD2600XT core?
-
The thing is, the 8800 card won't fit into a 15" notebook, so unless they could fit an 8700m into a 15", ati will win in that category.
-
Does anyone know anything about Warhammer Online in 2008? I'm hoping a 8600m GT will run it fine because it will be a mmorpg and those are not as graphically demanding as most other games. I'm not sure if they have system specs posted yet, but I have been eyeing the 1520 and Warhammer Online will be one of my major uses once it comes out.
thanks for any and all info
-
There were no 14-15" laptops with the 8600GT that were under 6lbs. The MBP was just barely under, and it only had 128MB RAM, not to mention that after tax it would be over my budget.
-
i just got an ASUS f3sv with the 8600GS...wahts the best driver for it right now? cheers
-
Assuming that the HD2600XT ever goes into a 15.4". It may go into the C90s, other than that, I don't really see it happening. Though I suppose it's certainly possible.
-
lenovo t61p, but without any discounts...they're pretty expensive.
-
Actually the 14" can be had well configured for ~$1550. However, some may not like the 128mb FX 570m graphics card, although it will perform better than any other 14" notebook, and any 15" notebook other than the G1s or the 256mb MBP.
-
Just so I don't have to read through all 42 pages, which drivers are the best for the 8600m GT so far?
-
We already have a thread JUST for the 8600M GT drivers.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=143103 -
Is there a thread just for Quadro 570M DDR3 256mb drivers, etc.?
-
I don't think so. If you want to use Quadro drivers, I'd stick with the OEM ones (the ones provided by Lenovo or HP or whoever your computer was sold by). If you want to use gaming drivers, then you would use whatever's recommended in the 8600M-GT drivers' thread.
-
Please Post That Email Stating 1720 Has 8600m Gt Ddr3!!!
-
Cool thanks. The only gripe is that I'll have to uninstall driver, restart, install new driver, restart whenever I want to switch between the 2.
-
Yes, though you'll probably find that you'll be using one driver far more often than the other.
-
Will this configuration be good enough for a few years, and how will it play todays games, I uped the ram to 4GB, C2D at 2.2ghz, and 160GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, with Vista Premium 64bit,thanks, http://www.powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=474
-
That's a good computer, and should play all current games fine. I would recommend dropping the processor to 2.0GHz, and getting the standard 1GB and installing a second 2GB stick yourself, as that will save you quite a bit of money and have no noticeable impact in gaming performance.
-
actually I need the extra ram since I do allot of post processing in photo shop and Nikon Capture.
-
Wow that is the first time I ever saw anyone recommend a slower CPU for gaming...
I guess we cant get lucky and Dell would start putting in DDR3 8600M Gt's??? -
Can anyone comment on 8600M GT performance running ArmA: Armed Assault?
-
i have a question... can this card be overclocked so that it can support shader version 5.0 games in the future?
-
In general, shader support is determined by the hardware, not the clock speeds. It will never have hardware support for SM5, however it will most likely play those games in DX10 or DX9 mode.
-
It would be cool if ATi introduces cards that are maybe at 8700M GT level or higher, but still fit into 15" laptops.
I'd DEFINITELY get that 15" -
That would be the HD2600XT, which some claim will fit into the C90s. However, I've seen no evidence of that happening so far.
-
Well....I'm buying my notebook probably next summer so they got plenty of time to develop a laptop just for me.
-
it'll be outdated by next autumn
-
Does anyone have any drivers that let me run the notebook at non-native resolution? So far, with my G2S I can only get the native 1920x1200 and 1600x1024, which isn't the same ratio. I need something that will run it with 1280x800, or 1440x900 or something like that.
-
Somebody have actual drivers to this card??
-
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64910 - follow these directions
use laptop2go and download the 163.44 ones -
How much does upgrading the drivers matter in aspect to FPS? From the ones that come stock when u buy the laptop?
-
It depends on how new the stock ones are, and it depends on the game. Newer drivers can give you performance increases of up to 50% (though that's rare), but in general the increases come when the newer drivers provide compatibility with newer games.
-
how long do u think nvidia will update the 8600m drivers until it moves on? Im scared that ive just bought an out of date card
-
Nvidia will continue to update the 8600M drivers for as long as it's in business. Nvidia uses a Unified Driver Architecture, so any of it's new drivers can be used on any card, no matter how old.
And no, you haven't bought an out of date card. -
ok why sum ppl have up to 1 gb turbocache on there 8600M GS and mine dont seem to have it?? cuz im stuck at 512 MB....and my clocks are reading 500 / 400 is there anyway of correcting this other than trying to clock it with a program?
-
Don't worry about it. Turbocache/Hypermemory/TurboBoost are all marketing gimmicks and worthless.
-
can u help me with my clocking issue a dude i read a dude stock clocks were 500/700 mine are 500/400
-
What laptop do you have?
-
Asus f3sv - A1
Specs : Core 2 Duo 7300
Mem: 2 GB
HardD: 160 GB -
Your clocks are normal with that laptop. If you want to overclock, you can probably go up to around 600 mem.
-
ok i c... and i dont have turbocache right
-
No, the F3sv uses turbocache. Up to a maximum of 1gb I believe.
-
i cant get 1gb cuz if i have 2gb im suppose to get 1gb gam ram
-
Your graphics card will share system RAM to get up to a maximum of 1GB of total video RAM. I believe you have 256mb of dedicated video RAM, so that means that your graphics card will be allocated up to 768mb of system RAM. However, it will only use that much if you have sufficient system ram. With only 2GB of system RAM, I believe that your graphics card will only share 256mb of RAM, giving it a total of 512mb of video RAM.
-
bummer...
but i got this from my site where i bought my laptop (newegg) "Built-in 256MB VRAM Turbo Cache 512M with 1G Memory, Turbo Cache 1G with 2G Memory" unless its false
onthe other hands wats the latest best drivers i can use with my 8600M GS i current using 101.34 -
just look on laptopvideo2go.
-
Stop worrying about Turbo Cache. I'll eat my words if someone can prove that they provide a performance benefit. The feature is simply useless.
