Indeed.. This would be more interesting and useful then this GSync hype..

Does this work on the new AW17 with LG IPS screen?
-
Does it have Optimus?
-
kakashisensei Notebook Consultant
I don't know. Contemplating purchasing AW17 if it works.
By optimus, do you mean that the video display is connected to the igpu, whereas on the Asus G751 and Msi Gt72, the video display is connected via eDP to the mxm card? -
Yeah. Mobile G-Sync doesn't work if you have Optimus.
-
alienware models always used to have a mux tho, where u can manually switch from dGPU to iGPU and back. dunno if the new models have that though...
-
New models cannot switch between GPU's... More cost cutting from AW.. The brand has been ruined to pieces with these new BGA crap!
-
to think i even considered switching to alienware this time around...
-
OK, so only ASUS G751 laptops can do it. It seems they referred to GTX 970M, but what about GTX 980M??? Does it also support?
Also, I watched the video and the conclusion is that this model SUPPORTS a form of G-Sync when FPS is 25+. Are future ASUS drivers going to officially support this feature on this laptop or will it stay half-messed up and only through hacked drivers???
Do you think it is worth buying this laptop to use this feature for gaming? I mean I would expect framerate to stay higher with GTX 980M, but not GTX 970M...Last edited: Feb 18, 2015 -
at this point in time its all just guesswork. were talking about a leaked alpha driver here that wasnt supposed to be in anyone´s hands outside nvidia and their direct business partners. so any buying plans / strategies for future gaming / etc. are all just anyone´s opinion / guess and nobody can really answer your questions properly
just wait and see how things develop
-
So>>> Does new Alienware have Optimus or not? Te fact that it has no mux-switch doesn't necessarily mean that it has Optimus.
-
It has Optimus however it doesn't have a mux-switch...
-
MSI GT72 can use G-Sync also, by sheer coicidence. Proven in the MSI sub-forum.
-
So why can't Sager NP9377 work with G-Sync? Does it not support DisplayPort? It has no Optimus either! SLi supports G-Syc, so that cannot be an issue.
-
IPS GT72 can. Not TN GT72.
The IPS display you find on the expensive GT72 models is the same as the display you find on G751. That IPS LG display have the rights specs for G-sync through eDP. I don`t think any other notebook with a different panel works. A lot of people have tried -
I would think a Clevo P770ZM would work as long as it had that LG IPS.
-
it should, its got all the prerequisites.... u thinking about going for one with that display?
-
Unfortunately not, will be a P750 and 4K for me so I can edit 4K video footage on the go

What's the name of the G-Sync panel and where can it be bought and how much does it cost?
-
Anyone still using this? All of the original links in the OP are dead and I'd love to try this out, now that I have a GT72 with the IPS.
-
Try here (the mirror and 346.87 links work). Mind there's some drawback too, apparently; noticeable frame skipping.
-
Not so much frame skipping as flickering at low FPS and display dropout (blackout) during stalls in the graphics pipeline (e.g. spikes in CPU/disk activity)
-
Yeah I found that, I'm just having trouble getting it to install. I've tried a few of the .inf files found in this thread, but no luck getting it to recognize.
-
You need to mod it for your specific laptop
-
Tried and failed.
-
Option 2: Replace nvlddmkm.sys in 347.25 with same file from 346.87, then install
P.S. Did you disable driver signature enforcement this entire time otherwise it will always failLast edited: Apr 15, 2015 -
Did you happen to save the Gamenab 347.25 driver?
yes Driver Signing is off -

4K with single 970M/980M?
/facepalm -
You're right, you need a 860M for 4K!

These guys don't get the memo. 4K 60Hz G-Sync is a bad idea in a gaming notebook with a single GPU. G-Sync's lower bound is at 30Hz and you'll be dropping below it regularly and having a poor experience unless you play really old games. But if you have to play at blurry interpolated 1080p, what's the point of having 4K in the first place?
1080p 120Hz G-Sync on the other hand? Sign me up.killkenny1 and D2 Ultima like this. -
Seriously, this, again?
Are you forced to play in 4K? -
What's the point of having 4K if you're not gonna play in it? It's not as if the extra real estate is usable anywhere else on a tiny laptop screen.
-
If they make a 4K version for my screen size, I would try it.
And yes octicepts, you can see much more realstate with 4k on a 15.6 inch. Each previous pixel, at 1080p, is now a fully rendered icon. Just imagine how many you can fit on screen. You can even now use the windows magnifying glass program as a feature, to properly see everything.
Seriously though, 4K looks TINY on my 50 inch tv as a monitor. I can't fathom using that as native with small DPI. -
People are stupid.
Following a pointless gimmick, or saying "I want screen real estate! I'm not gonna game!" etc (when we know that's a lie).
Because "OMFG 4K WOOO 4K 4K 4K WEEEE I HAVE 4K SCREW YOU".
I'm 2/3 of the way there XD.zizimonzter likes this. -
I edit 4K video and high res photos but I'm on the road 24/7 so I'm constrained to using a laptop.
I also play games now and again, so yeah 4K in a laptop is perfect for my situation.
Anyway my point was regarding g-sync, not 4K. -
Well let's hope G-Sync has been improved to work at 20Hz since that's what you'll be playing some games at 4K in with a single mobile GPU LOLLast edited: May 17, 2015

I still don't see the point of GSync.. It seems like nothing more then another NVIDIA marketting gimmick tbh... No use for me at least...
-
G-Sync is amazing. Have you watched any demonstrations?
-
It does have a purpose, but if you're 24/7 at 60Hz etc and don't notice vsync's input lag or anything... well no reason to desire it for you?
-
It's one of those things that needs to be seen firsthand to be believed
-
Does the hack thingy work?
The links on the first page seem to not be working anymore.. -
Does this really work?
If so I'm interested in trying this on my M18x R2, 680M SLI. -
No. This doesn't work, and will never work. The original driver "hack" was simply the core of a driver planted into newer drivers. It allowed the newer pre-gsync models like the GT72 and ASUS which had dGPU-only access with screens undergoing certification. My screen, for example, didn't work, because it wasn't slated for Gsync certification back then even though it is eDP with dGPU-only connection type. None of yours will work.
And even if you did have the screen, you'd require a gsync GPU and a Gsync sBIOS as well to allow it, because #proprietary.Georgel likes this. -
That is sad... Because my screen actually should work... but not the GPU... -
-
-G-sync GPU model
- G-sync licensed screen (sometimes a specific EDID)
- G-sync license in BIOS
- A CPU series that matches the license
- A driver version that recognizes the above
Are these requirements artificial, heck yes.
Will NVIDIA sue the **** out of someone who makes a way available to circumvent them, heck yes.
Kade Storm, TBoneSan, D2 Ultima and 2 others like this. -
Man, they're protecting their creation like a newborn baby. I think that as long as hardware can achieve solid 60fps Vsync is enough then
. As far as I know, only the LG panel can go above 60Hz. So the 4K one can only go up to 60Hz. And from what I read, the 4K panel if used with Gsync, will result in black screen if the fps are too low. So... No real gain by using G-sync with P870.
Nvidia G-Sync hack - it works on every display supporting DisplayPort 1.2
