Okay, then. In that case, I guess I should just get the first one?

Is it necessary to play the first Half Life before playing Half Life 2 when I already know the gist of the story in the first?

I played half life 2 first, and I was a little confused at the start, but then got into it. I wish I would have played the first one before the second, and I suggest you do the same.

In this case I do agree because some of the characters were brought into the HL2 storyline. I still think HL had a better AI than in HL2, not that HL2's AI was bad. The other AI that was great was that in F.E.A.R. and IIRC the AI shared some of the programming scripts found in HL.

I believe so, THQ required you to log into your account to verify your serial number of the game. It's similar to Blizzard's Starcraft 2. I found that if you don't use the latest updates you didn't need to login. But that is defeated if you use the Steam version, don't know how that works as I have the retail version of COH and Opposing Fronts.

The primary reason that a login was required was due to the fact that COH had no DRM. There were one or two other THQ RTS games that had no DRM when it shipped so the login is basically like DRM. But you don't need a constant internet connection. :)

What do you guys think of the Indie Heavy Hitters Pack? Is a lot more expensive than the other packs, but I want most of the games in it...

Also, I'm not getting CoH. I have too many games to play as it stands, and I'm sure that CoH will go on sale like this again someday if I ever want it.

Well, looking again, I think that I can spare for the original, but the others will wait.

If you don't have any of the games, the Heavy Hitters Pack should be a good choice. The other packs include 1 or 2 weaker titles that people wouldn't buy on their own, but not this one. I've played World of Goo and Braid and both are very creative and fun. I've also played Audiosurf and it wasn't my cup of tea, but most people seem to like it. Anyway, most of those games are on sale more often than not, so don't feel bad if you decide to wait. Too bad you missed the Humble Bundle deal. It included several of these titles.

By the way, if you don't have time to play CoH, how are you going to find time to play those 8 games? :p

Also, since you are interested in indie games, did you check out The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom? It has some elements in common with Braid. It's just $0.49. I only played it for 30 minutes but I liked it a lot. Lots of personality.

This was my first Steam Christmas sale and I enjoyed it a lot. I thoght I would buy at least a couple indie packs, but I am afraid I already spent more than I should. All of them look good to me, but none stands out. I guess I'll wait until the next sale. When is the next big sale, btw? :p

    Happy new year people!!!

Right now i'm experiencing the same problem others have mentioned, slow download speeds. I gave up trying to download HL2. My download speeds fluctuated between 380b/s to 3.3k/s...nice !

By "time," I mean that I don't have another $15 to spend (already planned on buying the pack, plus I still need to buy Vietnam for BFBC2). :p Plus, I want some indie games I can play on battery.

Meh. Fine, I'll just wait to get Vietnam since I haven't even scratched the surface of BFBC2, and my birthday is in 11 days. :p At least I'll only need to get four or five games total this year...

I was wondering what people thought of Dead Space. I'm intrigued by it, but I finally picked up the HL2 episodes so I'm playing through them at the moment. Trying to decide whether its worth picking up Dead Space for when I have time to play.

Bought the stalker pack, figure for 5$ it can't be any worse off than an indie game. Shame I'm not really interested in the other games, this holiday sale went pretty easy on the wallet compared to the summer one

Finally got Battlefield 2 working. I'm not sure what did it. It could've been the re-install, the fact that I updated DirectX, or the fact that I let the game install PunkBuster (I didn't let it install when I first downloaded BF2), but it works now. I also disabled the in-game Steam Community so PunkBuster doesn't kick me from a server. Only thing now is actually getting good enough to not die every 30 seconds. It's a pretty steep learning curve, especially when playing against people who've probably had it since release.

I was briefly thinking about Amnesia, but seeing as how I'm already freaked out by Half-Life on the first level, there's no way I could take Amnesia. It may be an old game, but Half-Life manages to make me jump out of my seat. Those freaking headcrabs...

Thinking about VVVVVV. About how long did it take to finish? I've heard it's a little short, but at $2.50 it might be worth it despite a short length. I played the demo and it's pretty addicting. I just hope it lasts long enough or has enough replay value for me.

Only two of the DLCs actually add to the game; the rest are small unlocks. Those two are $5 together, so it really comes out to $17.50.

Those who don't find Amnesia scary are doing it wrong. The game can only be played alone, at night, in the dark, and with headphones. If you follow the rules it is IMPOSSIBLE not to be scared. I'm not very amused by those people who play it and "pretend" it isn't scary.

Been working 7 days a week here so lots of overtime, I spent a good amount of that OT on steam deals. Been getting games on a pretty regular basis since that Treasure Hunt deal stuff started.

Dont know how much I spent but got a lot of games, most that I will never find the time to play...

At any rate ran into my first issue with my purchase from the other night. I decided to get Mafia II after reading up on it.

They had it advertised on sale for $12.49 and so clicked the deal link and got the game. I after buying the game like 10 seconds later saw further down the page (had to scroll to see it) the "Digital Deluxe" version on sale for only $14.99

It was a no-brainer to get that version, not sure why they didnt advertise it so when clicking on the deluxe editon page it said "you already own this game" and also on the standard version page it said somthing like "special offer, free DLC"

So here I am thinking well maybe I got the deluxe content for free, and steam said I already had the deluxe edition game.

I did not see the DLC for it though... so I took a dive and bought the deluxe edition knowing that in a worse case scenario I would have a copy of the game to give away to somebody.

What a bad idea that was.

I still only show the standard edition in my library, no extra DLC, and no copies of the game to give away.

Steam basically took my money and ran with it.

Contacted there customer support and they shoot me this bull that "we do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges on any digital product blah blah blah"

They said as a courtesy they will offer a one time refund for the standard game to my steam wallet and the game will be removed from my library.

So now I am waiting to see what happens, what I am afraid of is they will refund me the $12.49 and Mafia II will vanish from my library of games, and they will still keep my $14.99 for the deluxe edition.

I own like over a hundred games on Steam, cant believe they have horrible policies like "no refunds no matter what" thats just not how you do business especially with loyal long time customers.

Amazon started digital game purchases now... if things dont work right for me I may send them some business because I LOVE amazon and how super awesome there customer service is.

Customer Service alone is all it takes to gain/lose customers I wish companies would understand this.

Then you definitely needs to play through Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 , simply beautiful ;)
    Machinarium , shank.

If it doesn't scare me what you want me to do ? pretend ? FYI , i do use headphones and my room is always dark , can barely see a thing and did follow the so-called rules.

Some people aren't so easily scared.

And These youtube vids regarding the game are kinda exaggerated.

I thought there was only 1 person currently known to be incapable of fear; and this was due to a portion of her brain not being there.

Call me a skeptic, but every time I hear someone say "nothing scares me" I think of the 7 year olds who say that.

Go ahead and deny your humanity.
