Excellent review Forerunner, though an update on the multiplayer section would be nice, specially since the singleplayer section is so short.
Have done my time in multiplayer games and I think its what makes a game last or not.
    How is CoD4 compared to the BF-series and Fortress 2 (I am a TF2 NBR-member :D )

I am definitly going to get this game, just have to wait for the next payday :)

Just wanna say that this is probably one of the best games I've ever played. A+ title through and through. I got it for PS3, and I've been playing it pretty much nonstop for two days now. It's definitely the best shooter I've played in a good long while, including Crysis, Bioshock, and Gears.

I'm buying it tomorrow! Got the day off so guess what I'll be doing :p The game is all over Gamespot. The two console versions and the PC-version are all on the Todays Top 10 :D

in terms of comparing this game to tf2 and bf series, there is a noticable difference. if i were to pick, this game is more like tf2 than bf series. in fact, i thought this game would have me uninstalling bf2 but after playing multiplayer, i definitely am keeping bf up and running for a long time to come. you simply cannot compare bf2 to cod4 because the whole concept is different. bf2 is a massive infantry and vehicle battle in which u can plan and attack where as in cod4 u barely have time to think before you are shooting. i can compare cod4 with tf2 because of the team gameplay WITH very fast paced gameplay. cod4 blows tf2 away imo, but there is no comparison to bf2, they have VERY noticable difference in gameplay elements. basically it comes down to cod4 being just shoot and think later while bf2 has some thinking elements and strategic gameplay...

plus in bf2 u can post up somewhere and stay idle... whereas in cod4 i wouldnt recommened staying in the same spot more than a minute

    :) have fun everyone

amazing how u can finally use grass and shrubs as REAL cover now to hide w/o being seen at all... downside is once u kill someone, u better run because of that damned kill cam!!!

Glad you guys enjoyed the review. I'll try an update to the multiplayer like someone suggested but I'm just swamped with schoolwork. ITs a 3 day weekend so I'll probably have some time then.

In terms of tf2 vs cod4. They are very different games. COD4 is very realistic even when not in the hardcore mode. A few shots will kill you quickly. The game really emphasizes cover and being somewhat patient and waiting for the opportune moment. Its like real soldiers. THey don't walk in guns blazing. They scope the area out, find flanking positions and use cover. Tf2 gave me a few solid months of play but has gotten boring now compared to cod4. COd4 I just want to level up and become more powerful.

Also about the killcam thing that someone mentioned, play in servers that have it off. I like both ways but with it off, a silenced pistol + prone= ownage. I seriously apologize to the pistol for underestimating it so badly.

funny thing is, i kinda feel the same way towards tf2 now... i think the gameplay elements of fast and frantic are excelled in cod4 more so than in tf2... but what is weird is i still have the urge to play a couple hours on battlefield 2 rather than play cod4... i think it's mainly to slow down the pace a little and have more of a unified army of 32 vs 32 players

ill probably stick with cod4 and bf2, and occasionaly boot up tf2 now. kind of a shame however since tf2 is such a wonderful game.

^ Yeah sometimes, cod4 is a bit too fast paced sometimes. I think past 24 people is too many. THough I just unlocked the scope and got the m60 light machine gun which is pretty kickass paired with deeper penetration.

Yeah cod4 gets frustrating sometimes, really damn frustrating but its because of the realism mainly and I know its because I'm too eager sometimes.

Glad to hear it. I told you people it was good. :p

What are you guys specializing in multiplayer? Like are you spreading out what guns you use or focusing on particular aspect.

I was focusing all out on assault rifles and finished most of the challenges for 2 of them but with the m60 light machine gun I want to get a decent sight atachment on it it. Its an amazing weapon because it can fire decently at long range and is killer at mid range but not great at close because the recoil is crazy. I'm not interested in shotguns yet but after assault and light-machine I'm gonna start using sniper guns. Also I unlocked martyrdom yesterday and before I thought it wasn't a great perk but I find it very damn useful. It suprisingly gets people a good portion of the time especially indoors.

Since im planning on getting a new laptop will this kind of specs be able to run this game on hgih settings?

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7700
    4GB DDR2 667MHz RAM
    GeForce 8600M GT 512MB

This is only a partial of the parts for the custom-built laptop im planning to get here in Paris.

If you're interested here's the full specs

Also i'd also want to ask if its okay to get custom-built laptops? Like building them up part by part and getting a main base?

I don't enjoy learning languages, but once I have learnt them and been able to use them to help someone out...i feel like its worth it, currently speak 4 languages with notions for 1 extra.

Out of all of them, french is rather hard to learn and speak, it too me quite some time to get make the rolling sound of the r. In writing the grammer and accents still give me trouble from time to time....there are so many freakin tenses...every subject has a different tense. French is hardcore **** man, even in letters its the way you structure the letter that counts rather than the content.

Excellent review Forerunner, I'm so annoyed right now because a friend of mine got the game on Tuesday for me but my computer is in about eighty pieces and I can't seem to isolate my issue (long story involving an elusive short circuit).

What I was amazed at was when I played the demo I was able to play it at my native resolution with 2xaa (and nothing else), it ran well and looked beautiful, so if the actual game is more efficient I will be very happy assuming I can fix this (or find a new mobo).

Just a little follow up question regarding the multiplayer section. How large are the maps, say compared to the maps in BF2/2142?
Will probably get my copy today, that's if there are any copys left

the maps are much smaller than bf2/2142.. in fact, u cant compare the games.. cod4 is just so much more fast paced and if you play on a server with 32 people you wont live that long because there are so many on the map. i was hoping to see a large map that COULD support 64 players but im sticking with bf2 on that. bf2 is simply more massive, they are totally different games.

It looks good and all, but uh, its just like any other Call of Duty except in a modern environment.

Meh, maybe I might pick it up when it hits $39.99 or after a couple of patches are out.

Well this game is all infantry unlike BF2 which has all sorts of vehicles so the maps are alot smaller. Also this is somewhat different than bf2. Its very realistic and often a few bullets can kill you. Its about patience and taking cover.

I know what you mean, but overall it takes call of duty to a new level while still having the same core mechanics as 2 did. OVerall its a very refined game in terms of visuals and gameplay. Like I said its my pick of the year for game of the year so far.

Timeshift does not compare to this game at all. I've played a few levels at a friends and its honestly a lame game. COD4 is on anohter level.

It´s a great game, but I would love to have seen sharper textures, at least put a level higher than low/normal in the video settings. Compare the textures of Cod4 to Gears of War which also runs much better, better optimized. I mean the textures of Cod 4 is really blurry up close, even if I use 16xAF. I want a high texture option in the video settings menu.

Hell I run Gears of War at 1920x1200, all options set to medium, except character detail set to high and texture detail set to high and the game gets down to 25 fps during some heavy firefight, but usually I am around 30+ fps and this on my two year old laptop with a single core 2.13Ghz and a overclocked 7800GTX to 445/1200 :)

When I tried the demo of Cod4 at same resolution it felt slower, though I have to try the retail version again and maybe skimp on some effects. But Gears of War mostly at medium do look amazing at 1920x1200, compared to running this game on max :)

I know since I run both games on my desktop, now my desktop runs with a 8800GTX and Gears of War supports DX10 that includes 4xAA.

But on my laptop I would say Gears beats this game graphics wise.

Magnus ^ Can't comment on that yet, haven't played gears on the pc so I can't make a comment till I get the game tomorrow or monday. Also the full game is a good amoutn more optimized than the demo.
