Personally I like to use Nibitor 3.1.......I briefly tried one of the newer ones either 3.2 or 3.3 and the whole layout of the program seemed different.....so the instructions i'm giving you guys might be totally different for the newest versions of Nibitor.....3.1 just seemed easiest to use for me.

    Intel® Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS
    100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

    I'm running a at 560 core and 1120 memory with a 1.05v voltmod.

Temperature is peaking at about 72c, with the laptop sitting on a wooden coffee table after 3dmark06.

    I am scoring 5000 in 3dmark06.

I might try stepping down the voltage and seeing if I still get artifacting. But overall this is EXACTLY what kind of performance I wanted to see. But I'm going to see about stepping down to 1.03v.

Protelis are you running XP and what kind of laptop as those temps seem quite low?? Don't forget that the temps drop quite rapidly after you exit the program. Is 72 your peak temp while running 3dmark06??

I've got almost exactly the same setup except i've got the T7400 (2.16).
    I'm scoring 4650 in 3dmark06 (vista) and that's running at 550 core and 1100 memory @ 1.05v

I run Vista. I have a Dell E1705, I didn't get the screen upgrade because it didn't seem like something I would be interested in.

75 is the highest my peak temperature has ever gotten playing a game.

    About 480 core 1110 memory.

Anything higher and I start getting artifacts without the V mod.

I'm sure I could go much higher, but this is a pretty good gaming set up. I'm using 64mb flash keys with an autoexec.bat and dos boot stuff on them to switch between my stock bios and the one I'm using now.

my latest oc is 5001200 no v-mod, artifacts exist but can not be noticed in gaming. (yellow dots in atitool) should I use lower clock, or it really doesnt matter if u cant notice them?

    I would say so.

Stalker got my gpu up to 89, held at 85. Thats pushing it to me. I'm stepping back down to 1v. The volted performance wasn't that much greater anyways.

Can you explain how stressing the GPU does damage to it? shouldnt it just be power straved and then shut off?

One of the causes of GPU artifacts is the overheating. The GPU temp. sensor is at a particular position, there might be some parts [like the pipelines] being overheated beyond their wits.Artifacts basically mean that one of more of the pipelines [probably the pixel pipeline] is giving out some incorrect results or malfunctioning, it can be either caused by inappropriate clock and volt settings or extra heat [though they usually come together].

After stumbling across this article while deployed, I must offer a hearty thank you for this forum and stormlifter's sites help in overclocking my 7900GS. I was very happy with the card even at normal clock settings. But, there were a few games I was playing that could've used a bit more boost, especially when running in the native 1920x1200 res. I managed to get a great overclock out of my card - I used several of the 7900GSX BIOSs and they worked like champs - of course i got greedy and wanted more so i finally settled on the v600c800.rom. I didn't expect it to work for very long without artifacts or instability but it did. I've been using it at those settings for a week now and am very happy. I am amazed how far this thing can overclock from the factory settings. I am also very content with the in game performance. Right now I'm playing Dark Messiah and it's running great at 1920x1200 Full graphics. C&C 3, Flatout 2, and Oblivion all run smoothly at the same settings. I play games for about 8 hours straight while I'm out here deployed so I'd say that's a pretty good test of stability.

    3DMARK06 @ 600/1600 - 5113 marks
    3DMARK05 @ 600/1600 - 9049 marks

Using I8KfanGUI v3.1 my reported temps are 48C idle 73C peak
Fans on Slow/Slow - if i let the BIOS handle the fans then i get 55C idle 86C peak.
That is with the 8C offset to compensate for the diff between the Nvidia reported temps in the control panel.

    Here's my specs:

Ummm, If I could get some help here, that would be great.

I decided to flash my card with the thing on the first page. Needless to say, my Rev2 card got bricked and I'm stuck now with a backlight and no backup bios. If someone here could hook me up with a Rev2 bios, I would be eternally greatfull. Thanks :(

    http://www.mvktech.net/component/op...func,fileinfo/filecatid,2012/parent,category/

Try that. MVKtech.net has alot of bios files, if that doesn't work, I'll upload my stock bios, which should be for your card.

Make a CDRW into a dos boot disk. Whatever software you use should be able to do this. If not, I think you can right click your CD drive with a blank in it from Vista and format as dos boot disk. I don't remember.

Download NVFlash from here, and put it in the root directory with all the other stuff on the disk. You'll want to put the bios .rom file in here too. I suggest renaming the rom to "stock.rom"

    Start up and give it a bit for the CD activity to die down. The EXACT command you have to use to run NVflash and load that bios will be;

    nvflash -4 -5 -6 filename.rom

Where file name is you just use the file name of the rom. Write in on a sticky note if you have to.

The CD drive will spin up and you should hear your laptop's internal speaker chirp. Hit the "y" key, and this will start the flashing process.

I've never blind flashed before, so at this point your monitor might turn on after the flash is complete. If nothing happens, wait for activity to die down again and take the CDrom out of your drive, then hit your power button to shut the laptop off. Then start it again with the power button.

    I hope this helps man.

In the future use Nibitor, also available on MVKtech.net to edit your bios.

Also, if you have a USB floppy Diskette drive you can use it to flash your bios, using the exact same steps. Only you'll want to format it as a dos boot disk.

Let us know if you get it working!

Ok, so I got it running stable at 575/575 but I'm only scoring 6000 on 3DMark05. I'm reading everyone elses scores and mine seem really really low.

I'm an a E1705 with the T7400 and a gig of ram. Could the fact that I'm on Vista be it?

Pop on over to the drivers update guide.

My stock drivers when I got my E1705 sucked.

I don't think Vista really affects performance, it's just the drivers.

    Hey guys

I own a Dell Inspiron 9400 w/ T7200 2ghz, 7900gs, 2gb 667 ram, WUXGA 1920x1200 and the rest. I've tried a bit of this overclocking. I found that anything above 550mhz (1100) on the ram (eg 575 or 600) the system is unstable and artifacts are present in ATI Tool. How are people getting 750-800 on the ram???

My highest clock is 650core/550mem(1100). I am using rom v6501100.rom. I have found no difference using the "GSX" roms either.

    Any ideas?

Your processor isn't the bottleneck for most games.

Oblivion does feature some very basic multithreading features, but I've found that they tend to lower framerate more than anything when enabled.

You'll want to install the latest forceware, look in this section of the forums for the driver update guide. You might also wish to overclock your graphics card.

It is REALLY important, if you decide to overclock, THAT YOU SAVE A COPY OF YOUR ORIGINAL BIOS AND WORK FROM IT.

Howdie guys....Just wonderin, will there be a way to overclock the newer Dells (e1705/9400)? I just got mine a few days ago and discovered the 8600M GT (Asus G1S) shortly after. It beats the stock clocked Dell and its only 15"! The reason why i got the 17" is because of the performance of the 7900gs...and now...i lost to a 15" and a DirectX10 one at that!!! Dang it.

The new ones overclock same as the rev1. Except do not use the bios from stormlifter, save your own bios, then edit it from there.

Thanks StevenJ...I was partially aware of this method but was hoping to do it like u guys and flash a 7900GTX bios on my 7900GS. Ive read somewhere that they use nvflash and nibitor. But im a newbie at doing stuff using DOS and would love a detailed step-by-step guide on how to use nvflash to save my bios.

(As im reading this, ive discovered a new santa rosa based acer aspire with 8600M GT thats only S$2698(US$1500) and it looks great!) Man..my dell is quickly becoming obsolete. http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?id=2272&cid=18&pg=1

Is there any reason to choose stormlifter's hard-coded overclocking bios over Juanlu's bios that unlocks software-controlled overclocking?

I'm guessing the stormlifter bios keeps your 7900gs overclocked all the time?

Using ATITool with Juanlu's bios, I can have it set to automatically OC only when a 3D application is detected, and throttle back when I go back to desktop.

Does the stormlifter bios have any advantages I don't know about?

boot from the stormlifter cd with any type of storage device that can used in dos. Then type nvflash, it will tell you what command to use to write your bios to a file. (i forgot the command) save it in a file, save.rom, onto ur storage device. Restart the computer download nibitor (google it), then edit your voltage by checking xtend v table (older version), or go to options then voltage table editor. edit the clocks, save your file and reboot. use nvflash C:\save.rom (assuming it reconize the storage dev as C :)

No not really, except its a more pernemate solution. I personally think Juanlu's is better beccause you get optimized ram settings and it is easier to find the max clocks. I just don't use it because the risk of emi and all those other stuff you get with messing with the timings.

DONT use any of stormlifters or juans bios on your toshiba notebook, these are meant for dells laptops ONLY! either that or your card will be history.

You use nibitor to save your bios, http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/NVIDIA-BIOS-Editor.shtml

use this in windows to backup your bios, if you want to change the clocks then save it as a new file and flash with nvflash from dos.
It may be a good idea to put both bioses on a disc incase you get something go wrong, at least you will have your original bios.
