You should be able to go to tools menu, select read bios and then read into nibitor.

Use NVflash to save a copy of your bios.

    You Nibitor to edit it.

There is a really good NVflash tutorial out the site it comes from, look at that.

NVFLASH don't work for me cause my EEPROM (20,00) not supported...
I use X-BIOS for backup and NiBiTor for edit but when i load my bios backup all fields are empty... core -- memory-- voltage--

I was just wondering how you can tell which screen you have, I thought I got the WUXGA screen but my resolution maxes out at 1440 x 900, I see people here having the WUXGA screen with resolutions 1900x1200.
    Thanks

I suppose that your monitor isnt WUXGA...it must be WXGA. Its rare that it could be driver related. Dell lists their WUXGA as 1920x1200 and WXGA as 1440x900. Better recheck your purchased specs.

Thanks for replying, I do have the WXGA+ screen but I ordered the WUXGA screen. I don't know how this happened, if you build a Vista machine you only have 2 options, the XGA one or the WUXGA one, but I got the WXGA+ one. I'm calling them tomorrow and hopefully they don't give me too much trouble.

Hey guys....i've got a big problem. I tried to overclock my 7900 gs as described at the begining of this topic. I tried 4401100.rom. After rebooting I had a black/grey screen with a few blue, red and green pixels and nothing happend. What the hell shall I do???? I know overclocking is always combined with a risk but I would like to safe my 7900 gs ;).

    Waiting for help....

Could some admin please edit the first post of this tiopic and add the warnings from page 39!?!...When I found this 'official' topic on overclocking the 7900 gs I read the first 3-4 pages....since everybody was just posting their great 3d benchmarks I thought this way of ocing would be save. Now I have to probably send my laptop back because the instructions on how to get my 7900 to work normaly again in a blind dos don't work. I think this warning should be on the first page...not on the 39th.

    Greetz

EDIT: I could manage the quest of repairing my notebook.....Still I would suggest adding the warning to the beginning of the topic!

I got my Dell 9400 from Singapore and was wondering whether its overclockable. I installed 18Kfangui but it would only show the cpu temp...my go 7900gs bios information is 5.71.22.28.01 and my Dell 9400 revision is A00. Anybody have any clues whether I can use Stormlifters bios? Its revision A00( Ive seen up to A05) but ive received my laptop barely 2 weeks ago... Issit the new go 7900gs that cant be used with Storm's? Or isnt it?

Don't use storm's bios, you'll mess it it pretty bad. Just use and edit the bios and you'll be set.

If any has messed up their laptop by using the bios on a rev 1 card, I can hook you up with what I used to fix mine. It's a script that does the blind flashing for you, you just have to boot up into it and let it run.

Okay I am REALLY scared and I am hoping someone here can help.

    Here is what happened.

Just in the mail about three hours ago I recieved my brand new e1705 notebook, I had done a bunch of research before hand and was following the directions found http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64385

Now if you will notice in that tutorial there is NO mention of a rev. 1 video card (You know where I am going with this don't you?

So I put the disc in, and flashed with this command

    nvflash v4851100.rom

It flashed, said it was successfull, and I reboted, I was presented with a lovely black screen (followed by me hitting my head on the table)

I noticed at that point that even though the screen was black, it light up, and the caps lock light still worked, so the comptuer was running, so I followed the steps to try and get it back to the way it was, I figured I just made the card too high, so this time while I was blind, I typed

    nvflash 4101000.rom
and it went BEEP and I pressed enter
I waited some time, and restarted
this time, even worse! the caps lock light won't work, I don't think its booting that cd because the disc spins when I turn the computer on, but I can't get it to "respond" and the screen didn't get brighter.

I followed the instructions on how to fix a bad flash to the stock rev1 bios, but thats no good.

did I just spend $2000 on a brick???

    what do I do!!!!! ???!!!!????

A few post above you sombody said they have a bliind flash scipt that can reflash the bios back to where they are supposed to be.... You may want to read some before just asking questions :p

So if I were you I would PM the person that offered that bios flash script.

If he isnt around anymore I'd google for it.

I was well aware of the former posts, they are doing nothing for me, if you read my post I know the steps to do a blind boot, but like I said its not longer working, I need to find out how to reset the bios, and the steps involved in forcing a boot from cd.

A video card bios flash doesnt effect your mobo bios.

If you swear your bios is messed up, check your manual and see if there is a jumper or pin to reset it. Desktops have them but I dont know if a laptop will.

I know that a video bios flash will not affect the bios of the system, but its acting differently now, it's not booting at all, the screen is not getting brighter like it was, and the caps lock key is not affecting the light, I can't make the cd drive spin up, and nothing works!!

I know that desktops have bios reset pins, but I can't find it on the laptop, I removed all the compartments on the back, and found nothing.

Is it powering on?? thats step one.

Then you should see hdd activity, thats step two.

If you have steps one and two then sounds like its fine.

You cant expect the screen to get brighter if its getting no signal.

The cd-rom wont spin up unless you have it set to detect a cd in the bay upon boot up.

your just in a blind boot status.

Its a crappy situation to be in, I have been there.

You may as well call sombody and see if you can get a free rma, tell them your computer died ect ect...

They are overnighting me a new motherboard and video card, I know what I am doing, I am more than aware of everything you said, the motherboard just stopped responding, after I pressed the power button the disc would spin a bit, the hard drive would spin a bit, then nothing, and since it was set to boot from cd and then something happened and nothing would work.

I know its probably been posted before, but I need some help with overclocking. I understand the flashing process, but I don't understand what to do once I'm back in windows and the overclocking begins (I'm going to be using this BIOS Here to unlock the card) So anyways, I guess my questions are...

    1) What Programs should I download? I have an XPS M1710 with a 7900gs and Windows XP Media Center and I'm running Xtreme-G Mobileforce 94.20 drivers.

    2) What Kind of increments should I use? I've heard 25mhz at a time. Is this OK?

    3) Is it possible to flash my card back to the old bios if I decide overclocking is not for me?

    4) Is there anything I need to pay attention to while overclocking so my card isn't damaged? I know about artifacts and I've experienced them with my previous XPS M170, but will there be a massive increase in temp?

    5) I know everyones card is different, but whats an average "safe" range to look for?

    Thanks for the help.

What a mission but I've finally read through this entire thread.
I will be getting an XPS M1710 next week with a 7900 GS and i'm keen to OC it as soon as I can.

I just want to make sure:
All I need to do is make a copy of my stock GPU BIOS with nvflash (in DOS?) and then edit it in NiBiToR and flash my graphics card with it?

Thanks. I was wondering; when you are using programs like photoshop and more intensive programs like 3DS Max and Maya is the GPU's 2D clock used? When does the 3D clock kick in?

The first post really needs to be changed to give a warning that it doesn't work with every e1705. And the notice on page 39 didn't help me.. maybe this will help someone else:

Vista 32-bit on my E1705 see's my video card as a 7900GTX. Second Life does not support that card/ driver. I went to reset the Video BIOS to normal, But the ISO doesn't have 375/1000. I tried to go to the lowest at 400/1000 but Nvdia came up and blocked me about permissions. I can only think this is a result of the new system BIOS A08 or something like that. Does anybody have any suggestions for me

Ok i'm not entirely sure whether this is on-topic... but i really hope you guys can advise me.

I'm running a geforce 7900 gs at it's stock clock, and i am currently using the original dell drivers. However i am worried about it's idle temperature, as my room is not that hot yet the gpu temperature as reported by i8kfanGUI 3.1 is 70 with the first fan on slow and the second on high (which is as set by default, not i8kfanGIU's own automatic fan control). I am a little confused to what i hear about i8kfanGUI's temperature reading for the GPU as being lower by 8 degrees C. If so this is correct, then does that mean my idle is 78?!? This seems VERY hot! In games (such as oblivion) the temperature can be reported as up to 82+C (i'm not increasing it by 8C because i'm a little confused about that).

Also how do i go about finding out about which version of the geforce card i have in my laptop, as i have read here there are complications with overclocking the more recent ones (i bought my laptop some time last year)...

    Specs:
    T7200 @ 2.00GHz
    Nvidia Geforce 7900GS @ 375/1014 (stock)
    1.5GB RAM
    60GB HD

Thank you SO SO much to anyone that can help me, or even those who have simply been patient enough to read the entire of this whole post.

(ps. just had a thought, is it possible that my card is not dropping to 100/100 when not in a 3D situation?)

Download nTune to monitor the GPU temp (without the offset). You can get it on nVidia's website, just google for it.

Open nVidia monitor and click the "expand" button to find the temperature graph. Then you can compare it to i8kfan and find the offset.

My 7900gs is usually at about 60-70 degrees celcius.

Thanks cthulhu, but my computer completely locks up whenever i try to run ntune. On top of this, i cannot run ATItool as an error message appears whenever i attempt to... Any advice on this?

Also I have been able to overclock my card using coolbits (nvidia's own overclocking utility built in to the control panel and unlocked through a registry hack). I downloaded a bios flash which completely unlocked the overclocking capabilities of the card!

I'm still puzzled as to the very high idle temperature of my card though...

with rivatuner you can monitor your gpu temps too! It could be possible the offset isn't right of the coreclock.

I had a question about upping my video card. Its 350/500 7900gs. And my laptop is an M685-e I tried using the disc and it worked but when I got the menu I honestly didn't have a clue what to do. It said do option 2 but I didn't know how to access the command. It gave me 4 options and the second one was like /BL=16 I tried entering that but it didn't work any Ideas??

I would be very appreciate if you could give me advise on this one. I have Vista 32 bit with GeForce7900 GS. I'v downloaded and installed nTune. The problem is when I try ajust Core bus or Memory bus speed and press Apply all my changes resets to default Factory settings. I was woundering is it because of Vista or the Video Card has some kind of lock....??

I recently started playing DiRT, which is a very graphically-intense. My setup is not able to handle this game at any better than about 30 frames per second. I am GPU shopping. Which card has more horsepower: the 7950 GTX, 8600M GT, or my OC'd 7900 GS? I must say that I'm confused a bit. The new Inspiron's come with 8600M's, but the XPS still boasts a 7950 GTX. Isn't the XPS built with gaming in mind? Also, according to a site I visit, www.notebookcheck.net, the 86 and 8700M GT's don't score anywhere near the 7950 GTX, yet they are newer and DX10 compatible. My laptop is used strictly for gaming, not multimedia or anything else. I just want pure gaming power.

EdwardLuke: Something is off about your temps, especially if you are at a stock GPU clock. You do need to add 8 to whatever I8kfangui is saying, or go in to options and change the offset yourself. Questions I would ask: How long has it been since you opened up the laptop and cleaned your heatsinks/fans (if ever)? I the ambient room temperature extremely high? Are the fan intakes on the underside left and right blocked? Are the exhaust ports on the rear left and right restricted? If all of these things are good to go, then your program is reporting the wrong temps. You can feel over the right-hand side of the keyboard where the GPU is, and you can feel the hot air coming out of the exhaust ports too. However, 'hot' is a relative term, and I don't have any specific temperatures to supply you with. Basically what I'm saying is that if the damn thing is breathing properly, and the ambient temp is not abnormal, you are more than safe at those clock speeds. I get to about 75C under full load in Oblivion at the clocks listed in my Sig.

I would like to know what are the best drivers to have for 32bit xp. I was slightly dissaptionted with my 3dmark 06 score of 3150 (1440x900). I would like to get higest possible score with the clocks at 350/507 before i overclock. i Did a test on Fear with everything on maximum apart from soft shadows. my average fps was 50 and my minimum was 27. That sound about right ? My specs are in my sig :)

My personal favorite is the MobileForce G3 driver. Type it in Google search. I have noticed considerable gains, no blue screens, etc. Make sure you wipe out your old driver(s) first with this procedure: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=181310&highlight=driver+cleaner third part down, thanks to Geforcetony. BTW, 3150 @ 1440x900 on stock clocks is nothing to be ashamed of. Your card should OC quite nicely. Good luck.

Thanks for the Quick reply. I typed in Mobileforce G3 into google and they're appears versions like 93.71 and 97.44. Could you check your exact version (in device manager) and possibly link me? Also the reason why i felt 3150 at 1440x 900 was low is because people were sayin that at 1280x1024(higher res) they got around 3500. :)

Woops didnt see your post lucas

    HELP.
I got greedy and ambitious and impatient on my first oc. I have an e1705 with the 7900gs. The processer is core 2 duo 1.73 ghz. I downloaded the roms, burned to cd, rebooted and followed all instructions, and set the card to 480/1100 (i know that is a big jump but it seemed to be the standard others were using). It seemed to work and the screen said something along the lines of update completed or something and then stayed in the same mode with R:/ . I didnt really know what i was doing so i typed some random commands like restart and quit but it did nothing so i shut down and waited a bit and rebooted.

My screen is now permanently black even when turned on.

If i killed my 2 week old laptop.. i dont even want to think about it.

That clock is not anywhere near the danger zone. None of your random commands would have anything to do with the Black Screen of Death (BSOD). What was the ROM called that you flashed? All you can do is hope to perform a successful blind flash to get your system back up and running. Plenty of people have been in your shoes. Go here: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread181387.html. Thanks to Zzpulp for this guide. I BSOD'd my laptop back in April when it was about two weeks old, so I feel your frustration. I just bought a 7950GTX, so I have my old 7900GSX here should you be interested in purchasing it. Good luck my friend.

I have a Toshiba p105-S9339 (seen in sig)

I was wondering if you guys know if these BIOS flashes will work with the 7900 GS i have in my notebook. I was kind of hesitant to do it considering the majority of the people here have E1705/M1710s and are flashing those, however, since it IS the same card inside, wouldn't the result be the same?

If any of you have experience with the P105, let me know.

    thanks,
    Gary

I was under the impression that Dell was one of the only manu's that locked their clocks. There's a part of the Nvidia control panel (at least for the driver I am using) that will find your optimal clock speeds, and then apply them. Try that, or ATItool, to adjust your clocks. I don't know if the clocks will stick after a reboot either. As far as flashing the card BIOS, no clue. I don't know why I didn't think to have you try this before. You should have posted this in the Toshiba section though.

Yes, i used the roms found on the first page, specifically nvflash 4801100. I'll blind flash it back to stock but i still want to oc the card, so did i use the wrong rom? And turbodtalon, how easy is it to upgrade video cards on the e1705?
