This is the best news I've heard all day. :D

Do you think nvidia did this on purpose for the 7 series GPU's?

Have you guys seen consistent frame rate increases? I have always been wary of flashing my bios, so this is really good news.

I'm not sure if this question has been asked already, (I'm a TOTAL n :( :( b, btw), but how exactly do I flash the roms to my GPU? I've downloaded and burned the ISO using ImgBrn, and I've boot from the CD. I've selected the second option and then pressed Enter. I'm stuck at 'A:\' with no clue of what to do now. Please help, or point me in the direction of help. Thanks in advanced.

Eave, don't flash your bios. It's dangerous and may cause your computer to stop booting, recovery after that can be difficult.

Instead download the latest nvidia drivers from laptopvideo2go and use Rivatuner to overclock your card, it's much safer. And be careful to monitor your temps. :D

Whats the difference between a flash and running rivatuner to manually OC every time? I do the manual OC on my current laptop, and I'm getting a 7900GS soon, but would I see an increase if I was to do this fake GTX flash instead of just doing it in Rivatuner?

Bump, should I even bother with flashing or just stick to in-windows programs like Rivatuner to change my clocks? I plan on doing the undervolt-overclock combo which works good on my current laptop, what kind of difference would I be seeing with a flash instead?

Flashing would keep your settings without having to reinstall a program to 're-set' them again.

I had my 7900 GS overlclocked for over 1.5 years and it never got above 65C using that Dell fan utility.

Man I miss my E1705. :cries:

OK thanks, so no difference. Thats all I was wondering. I think its a benefit to have to run the program every time and load your presets, that way I control when I OC and when I stay standard.

    Survey says: Probably not.

You shouldn't use the tools provided in the first post.

You should manually save a copy of your bios, and use it. Be sure to keep a copy of your stock bios and save it somewhere so that you can flash it blind, incase something gets screwed up.

This guide is for dell notebooks only, get inibitor and save your own bios, keep a stock copy safe. In nibitor you can adjust the clock speeds and then flash it to your card using nvflash.
If you use a dell bios you will brick your card.

I doubt it would brick it. But it will cease to function as a video card until he flashes the correct bios.

I tried using rivatuner to adjust the voltage and oc my 7900gs, but I couldn't find anywhere to adjust the voltage. Can someone tell me where to adjust the voltage?

You can't do it with Rivatuner, find Nibitor and edit the card bios then flash it.

so i'm in the nvidia control panel under clock frequency settings, ive increased the speeds by 10, tested the changes and kept changing until i got to 410/1100 and i went to apply the changes. When i came back later to the menu, the speeds went back to default? any insight on why it's doing this? and what i can do to get my speeds to 410/1100

What driver are you using atm? I think you can only OC with 167.43 driver and up. Instead of using nTune, why don't you try Atitool?

I gave up on going further, I don't think I can get any higher without the BIOS flash. Unfortunately, If I fails then it will be a nightmare for me. I won't take the risk :( Anyway, I noticed that when I OCed the improvement wasn't very much so I'm happy with the stock clock for now.

you need to clear out some dust inside on your heatsinks, blow some compressed air in through the vent to do it quickly or take it apart and take the carpet of dust of the heatsink fins. Mine idled at 50c

You no longer need to flash your bios. Just get the new drivers from Laptopvideo2go and you are good to OC.

Can someone help me here. I have posted this at the "other" notebook forum and have had little help and not a very receptive audience. Here is my problem. Before finding out we no longer need to flash the BIOS to achieve an OC on our 7900GS cards, I flashed mine with the appropriate version BIOS. Just in doing this my card will only run in 2D. When I hit it with a 3D game that ran totally fine before, it will lock up and freeze. Desktop apps work great but gaming is off limits now. I overclocked it several different times moderately(20 points on mem and core) but always ended up reverting back to stock to even get my games to properly load. I never backed up my original BIOS so I am stuck with BIOS' only available online from different posters. I have tried almost every available driver known for this card and several different versions of my BIOS to revert it but to no avail. Its been almost an entire month and I still cannot fix this nor find much info online. I have found someone who was selling a 7950GTX but now I cant even get him to respond whether he has sold it or not. I am desperately seeking answers to my problem but cannot find really anyone who can help me.
