Those temps were fine. Everything looked good too. Id keep it around 450 and under and you should have no problems.

Ive been getting blue screens once or twice a day, so I put it back to stock to see if this cures the problem.

Im trying to get the creator of the rom files to make some higher core clocks but stock mem clocks because I know many users are having the memory lock up, even at 1100. Ill keep you guys posted with this.

How are you logging these temperatures? Your idle temps or doing nothing, do you have a fan running at this time? I just don't see how a 20 watt chips sits all day at 60C when idle. I'm real close to calling Dell as mine will only stay 52C with 2nd fan on low.

I constantly have, at the very least, both fans on slow, and I idle/do small things at anywhere from 45-55C, and when I game the highest I've ever gone is 70C.

I suppose this means I could push it higher but it performs well enough for me.

Stormlifter, just a quick question for you... How difficult would it be to get these roms compatible with the 7900 GS on my Gateway?

I've tried getting these to work, but get a mismatch error... which makes sense, since these were made for the Dell GPU.

i know this is a thread for the 7900 GS but would any of you happen to know how a 256mb Mobility Radeon x1800 with 2.33 ghz core duo, and 2 gigs of ram might do in 3dmark 05? 06? also can you overclock an x1800?

Hrmm.... Lemme think on that one... If I had a 7900 GS from Gateway I could do it, but since I'm not going to get any volenteers for that let me figure it out. If you'd let me VPN/Remote Connect to your laptop I could pull it off and for sure get it to work.

How well do high end games like F.E.A.R and all that run on all of your OC'D 7900's? Im planning on Overclocking my x1800 when i get it which im hoping could get me like 8000 in the 3dmark05 score(i heard it gets 6500-7000 stock). So if i can get around 8000 some of u guys are getting in the 9000's. Just basically wondering if my card will be able to run games like F.E.A.R and Oblivion at full settings.

Depends on your RAM... Probably at really high settings, but not max AA and AF (anti-Alias and Anistrophic filtering)

Hey all. I am very new to overclocking and proceeded to use this guide to overclock my new e1705 with a 7900gs. I have it at a mere 400/1100 right now but my computer cant load the nvidia drivers and i get wierd errors about stuff in my system32 folder. All i did was follow the directions and was wondering if there was any way to fix this. thanks.

Did you select option 2 "use max ram"? My buddy Robert did not do this and something got really bent after files were installed before reboot.

I fixed his with a simple restore point just prior to running the Boot DVD but your's may be a different problem?

Hey, hydra, thanks for the idea. I did a system restore and my computer is back to normal. I'm pretty sure I did all of the steps right... Anyways, I tried again and my computer appears to be handling my minor overclock just fine.

I've been watching this thread since I was waiting on my 1705 to ship. First, I'm looking at the back of the 1705 and there are two vents, both sides have vents and they both have heat sinks. Only the right side has the sinks flush to the vent...this means I have a single pipe correct? (Just making sure :) )

Second, I checked the BIOS and it comes up with RAM at 533 instead off the 667 that we ordered it at. Before I yell at DELL to fix it, how can I check hard drive speed and to see if I flashed the 7900GS to 450/1100?

Please let me know if I need to ask the hard drive question somewhere else :D
    Thanks!

EDIT: Found a way to get my part number for the drive and it turns out to be ok!

Yes, you have a single pipe.

Check your drive model numbers under hardware manager, then google them.

To check your actual clocks, I use NiBiTor.v2.9a, but there are several utilities that report clock speeds.

    Edit? OK..enjoy your 1705!

i'm pretty sure this is a dumb question, but...
since 7900gs can basically run everything that's out right now, and pretty well, why are we overclocking? for fps? or.. just for the hell of it?

i don't really see why i would need to OC it if it can run oblivion, prey, etc. on high with good fps. i would understand if something came out that kicked it's ass stock (crysis :) ), but right now?

Well, if you guy a 500 horsepower car, would you just use 300 of the horsies just because you don't need the rest? :D

No, you're looking at it wrong. Since the memory on the GPU is DDR2 if your memory is clocked at 600 that means that it is at 1200. If you clock it to 1000 rivatuner, nvtuner, etc will read it as 500.

No, faster memory isn't going going to make a difference in what you can clock your GPU memory at.

The memory on the Go7900GS is 256MB GDDR3 I thought. You still multiply the clock by two to get the effective speed though, correct.

Thanks for all the posts! Still a newbie when comes to all this flashing :) Scored a 7k in 3DMark05...Haven't run 06 since I'm at work and it wouldn't look like work :) I'm gonna look through the thread again to compare with everyone else who's at 450/1100 or thereabout. Can't be too brave with my flashes since this is my "worK" laptop though :D

I cant remember now for sure but I think I am at 420/1100 or maybe 450/1100. Anyway, that got me ~10 extra FPS in the CS:S stress test and my GPU idles at 56 with fans running on low.

pulsar is 667 the speed of your ram? because that is what it sounds like. the speed of your ram is actually 333mhz x 2 =666(667 makes it politically correct! :)

667 mhz is the total speed. I hope everyone has fun

beating on their dells. I know I do.

christopher a real safe rom from my experience here in the last few weeks is the 450/1150. rom

temps are no different than stock for me and the hottest the it has ever gotten is 73 celcius. Plus there is no volt mod on this rom if you leave out the v. I have checked this out on ati tool checking for artifacts for about an hour and it is perfect on mine. Great risk/benefit ratio in my opinion. Have FUN!

Are you talking about the temperature difference between the nvidia driver and the i8kfangui. If you are, you still have to add 8 to the GPU temperature for i8kfangui.

chris do you notice the ridiculous amount of improvement that OC makes!? It makes the 7900 GTX seem a lot more overpriced now that they are a lot closer in speed. GTX is still better ,but for the price/performance per watt GS is king. have fun with your "new" toy.

The power of the 7900GS is really overlooked by a lot of people. Dell and most manufacturers underclock them so much stock that it's ridiculous. The potential of these things is great, mine plays any game that I've tried at 1920x1200 perfectly.

    My OC'd 7900GTX score for 3Dmark06: 4831 (OC'd at 539/1372)
I have a 1.83Ghz core duo in my laptop, it will affect my score a little bit lower compared to most laptops (+- 100pts)
