hey spookyu, you said you got the Q: prompt?
you're skipping step 5 on the directions...
after you're in the DOS thing, you have to select option #2, the max memory. if you don't, then you get the Q: prompt, not the R:

and putkinen, it is safer to not use the v####### ones if you have the stock power supply.

    No, I'm selecting option 2...

Edit: I don't get it....I just tried it again and it the last line before it spits me out to Q is "CDAUTRUN: The first CD-Rom is drive R:" But down at the prompt it says "Q:\>".

do you mean i dont put a "v" before i write something when i flash ? if i do that, does the laptop runs with 1.0 volt then ?
if i run with 1.0 volt, does the temp get lower also ?

someone know what a 130W supply cost and where i can order one.

Alright, I figured out how to get to R, I just typed "R:\" and now it says R in the command prompt. But then I typed "nvflash 4501100.rom" (exactly as you see it in the quotes) and it says "CDR101: Not ready reading drive R Abort, Retry, Fail?"

Hey, I just thought of something, it wouldn't be a problem if I burnt the ISO to a dvd right? Alcohol 120% had that option and I only had blank DVDs at the time.

NVFLASH, I belive is the program that will flash the 7900GS ROM.
The *.ROM files are files that contain the description of the memory speed that you want to flash your 7900GS for. So for example, if you do, "NVFLASH 4501000.ROM" you are telling the application NVFLASH to flash your 7900GS to 450/1000. Stock 7900GS from DELL is 375/1000.

The if you ask to do say, "NVFLASH v4501000.rom" you are setting the same speed for the 7900GS but you are using the 1.24 Voltage.

Is running 1.24 Voltage hotter, I don't know, I never try.

where can i find this program nvflash ? is it one the first page.
and how do i use nvflash. i dont understand english so good, thats why.

    citat:
    8. From this point you have to select a ROM file to flash to your graphics card. The way you select it is by loading a ROM into a program called NvFLASH. Below is the list of all the files, I'll explain what they mean right after that
    9. What your looking at there is what you'd get when you do a dir /w command.

putkinen, you need to read the step by step instruction carefully :)

    =============================================
    1. Download the ISO, save it to a place that you won't forget where it is
    2. Burn the ISO, from that place you didn't forget about, using whatever software that can burn ISOs, I recommend ImgBurn
I also recommend buring the ISO to one of those fancy small CDs so you can have it with you
    3. Restart your computer with the disc in and be sure that in your BIOS your computer is set to boot from CD/DVD
    4. Your computer won't start into your operating system it will go into some crazy text flowing on a DOS-like screen, DO NOT PANIC!
    5. As soon as you get an option to do something it'll have a menu, select option #2 (max memory)
    6. Another promt will come up, just hit the ENTER key
    7. You'll be spit out to the R: drive promt
    8. From this point you have to select a ROM file to flash to your graphics card. The way you select it is by loading a ROM into a program called NvFLASH. Below is the list of all the files, I'll explain what they mean right after that
    9. What your looking at there is what you'd get when you do a dir /w command
    =============================================

The nvflash and all the rom files are in the ISO.

If you can find the ISO, here's the location:
    http://stormlifter.net/canvas/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=23&Itemid=32

I hope you do know how to burn an ISO, if you don't, I don't recommend you to fuss around, you may as well return your Inspiron 9400 and get a XPS notebook from DELL with 7900GTX.

    Hope that helps,
    Tambeng

Hi guysn finally i would know if is it possible to overckloak more 7900gs memorie.
In fact maybe we would get more stability by increasing timing memories...
it seems to be possible...but i have no experience for this hardware.

Secondly i want more informations about differences between vid and voltage label...

why i get high temperature in 2D (about 75 degrees ?)
    thx to all

    :)

Is there an "easy" way to check on clock speeds to see if you've flashed correctly?

    now i understand why !

Yolda i think we made errors..
putting vid7 to 1v does not change anything in fact the real voltage is the same : 1.24 v !!

    i understand now my temperatures....

Lmao, I shouldn't have been so dense. I still can't get my clock speeds to change though...I'm doing exactly what the guide says. Tell me, is there some sort of message its supposed to give you if you flashed it successfully? Like "complete" or something?

I don't know about the flashing itself because i don't have a dell and i don't want to make my own rom's. A litte overclock is enough for me.

Is it safe to use rivatuner to overclock? This would be a HELL of a long easier than this whole flashing thing.

you can't overclock the dell 9400's 7900GS, these are locked by bios --> only way to OC is to flash same bios but with higher clocks installed

Mmmm, so the only possible way I can overclock it is to use this nvflash thing which isnt working for me. I suppose its just user error, maybe the ISO I downloaded was corrupted or something, they seem to do that a lot.

WOOOO! I got it working! All I did was burn it to a CD instead of a DVD. I had to burn it to a DVD originally because I was out of CDs, turns out that it refuses to work when you do that. Here are my scores, nothing spectacular. I just OCed it to 450/1100, the them temps have peaked at 71C. I got 3960 in 3dmark06. I think I'll try ending a few processes and doing some minor things to get my score over 4000. Here is my proof for now:

i get ~4000 points in 3dmark06 WITH ORIGINAL CLOCK. (375/500)
just wondering why you are so happy, its just 3960 points !
i can understand if it was ~5000 points.

Well, his sig indicates that his 06 scores on "(Stock drivers, no OCing)" gives a 3502 score...

And, I'm pretty sure you can fill in the rest.

I think the difference between both your original score can be explained by both your configurations. You have more memory and a faster cpu. Maybe you both have a small difference in the gpu's too. It is possible you have the 512Mb version and spookyu has a 256Mb version.

When i compare my 7900gtx with others at stock i have a little difference too, most time my cpu is a BIT slower and i have only 256Mb in stead of 512Mb memory in my gpu. But i think 256Mb is enough for me ;)

Yeah, its probably all the ram and the cpu overhead you have on me. I didn't have the money (still dont) to upgrade. Seriously though, 4000 isnt bad for a computer that only cost $1400 USD. My computer always crawls when it comes to the CPU test, thats probably where you get the biggest jump on me. Don't crap on my score either, wouldn't you be happy if you could get a boost like that on your current configuration?!

Edit: oops, guess its time to change the old sig :)

Ohh, trust me, I feel it in bf2. I got to boost my settings way up (probably could have been higher originally, but not quiet this high). Plus, look at how MINOR an overclock I did. Ohh, I forgot to mention you have a 7200 rpm drive while I have the 5400. You can't really compare our 2 machines, you apparently had money to spend on these extras. I will be upgrading to 2 gigs of ram asap though.

ok , im not looking to hurt you, im glad if you are glad. good luck, but be carefully, you can hurt your videocard easilier then you think.
i think is no point to OC when the system already is outstanding and always have 80-99 fps with 4 x AA, full shadows, ..... (BF2).
im gone play bf2 now, your with me, i play "gotland" servern a lot. maybe i see you there. (so i also can kick your ass, he he he)

is it safe if its at 420/1100 at V1.0 instead of V 1.24.

isnt going to V 1.24 bad for the computer long term if u want it to last?

i play BF2 every day, just love it. i have 4 x AA, maxium shadows, 1024 x 768 and high on graphich-settings, and use NO OC (375/1000) & original VBIOS. you dont need to OC go7900gs (maybe if you have a slow processor or low Ram), it still works perfect. i get ~7000 points in 3dmark05 with original settings.

ps. dont forgett that your warranty dont help you if something goes wrong when you flash your card, i ONLY OC if i can use a new nice forceware, etc. to unlock the freq with, (and save the settings in rivatuner). i think flashing can be really bad for your videocard, if you have bad luck.

What screen resolution do you have? I have WUXGA which would like unsharp at 1024x768. Just wondering if it was the matt 1400x900 or the 1920x1200. Thanks

Ahhh, let me see, I don't have my setting turned way up just because I don't like lag when I'm trying to fly. I have 4 x AA on, medium shawows and lighting, I have effects and terrain on high but I left textures on medium (I only have a gig of ram, you need 2 gigs to pull of the textures without getting a hint of lag). I'm running it at 1600 x 1200 res. (I wish I could set it to my native, 1920 x 1200). I typically get frame rates of 50 or 60 during fire fights, higher when there is no gunfire or anything. I also have my card OCed to 450/1100 v1.0 (still need to change my sig).

if you want to get better fps in BF2, change in the nvidia controll panel: set 4 x AA, set 8 x AF and medium quality.

I have a question... since my computer has DDR-2 RAM and a Merom 7200 with 4GB, should I just split the Memory in half where most of you guys put 1100 to like say 600? Also, is it recommended to change the voltmod down to 1.0v like Yolda suggested? Thanks, any help is appreciated as I am new to modding.

Maybe I mis-stated it... anyways, this is what I have. I just recently got it because of the reviews I saw on this forum...
