Checkpoint system blows! Having to redo everything just makes the game repetitive and boring.

Totally agree dude. The game sounds repetitive as it is.
I`ll get it either today or tomorrow and get on it.

This review almost makes me want to play it on my PS3 some more, but then I come to my senses and realize there are better ways to be bored.

I really dont see it as one. He didnt tell anybody to anything, plus he had some substance to the post, the other poster simply resorted to name calling with nothing of merit in the post whatsoever. Now back to our regularly scheduled topic.

This is the point I was making. It's one step removed from calling somebody a baby, just because he doesn't come right out and say it, doesn't mean that wasn't the intent. He does make some points, but lets be clear on the origin of the namecalling. Anyway, enough of that, it's really not important for the thread. ;)

As someone said, checkpoints are fine as long as it doesn't get repetitive... but this game gets so incredibly repetitive. Also, in Acre, I completed my 2nd assignment and quit the game for a while to take a break. I expected to spawn back where I was after completing it, but no, I woke up inside the Bureau. So in this case it cut out a ton of gameplay, I'd consider this a pseudo-exploit shortcut.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not completely tearing the game apart. :D It's got great gameplay I just think it's a shame they messed up on a few details that could have put it over the top fun.

    Back on topic -

Just started AC and it seems pretty fun. Graphics are good and it runs perfectly fine on my Vostro 1500, 2GB RAM, Win XP, 8600m GT DDR2 at 1280x800 all settings maxed.

So much for those super high system requirements that were leaked a few months back.

This PC verison upsets me that I paid 60 bucks for a buggy version of the game when my laptop would've been able to handle it just fine.

I installed and played today on my desktop and it ran fine with max out graphics and detail settings 12x7 resolution and just 1/X for AA.

My desktop doesnt even meet min requirements it said, Opteron 148 @ 2.8ghz 2gb ram, Vista X64, and a Geforce 7800GTX.

Desktop should have more gpu power than my laptop but my laptop is much better with cpu power and the cpu is what failed requirements so I wonder if it will run better on my C90. I have not installed it yet on my laptop so I wont be tempted to play it at work plus the game is more impressionable on my 37" HD LDC and full surround sound at home.

Forerunner this is kind of ridiculous. It is not hard to upload full size images to the free services I mentioned (Dvshare, mihd) and then upload them so we can see them. Your review seems very incomplete without actual proper images.

If you want to send them to me even I will be happy to get them uploaded for you.

You can right click, and use View Image option to see the full size Image. (FF) Similar option must exist for IE users as well.

Yes I apologized for that. I noted that in the review. I didn't realize that until I posted the review. The reason being that imageshack changed my images to png format from jpg which is causing the problem. I'm just busy with schoolwork my school network does not like uploading apparently which causes pictures to take a long time to upload. If you want to upload them for me I would be grateful but give me till tomorrow since I don't have acess to them right now.

Edit: Thx Pai! Must spread rep more before giving more to you.

In the future code your images like this (minus spaces):

    [URL =http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/1377/achudru5.png][ IMG]http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/1377/achudru5.th.png[ /IMG][ /URL]

Which will give you a clickable thumbnail like this:

Also, I just finished my first 3 assassinations and I think I'd have to rank it Jerusalem > Damascus > Acre in terms of my favorite cities. I can't imagine having to off 6 more people though this is gonna get repetitive even more than it already is.

You know, I had it on 1280x960, but I switched it to 1024x768, all maxxed, and I don't ever feel it dropping below 30 fps. I'll run fraps today and let you know.

I'm a smooth fps kinda guy lol, the res lowering didn't bother me, game still looks gorgeous.

Oh P.S. I used both my keyboard / mouse, and my 360 controller and the Kb/m combo is by far superior.

Its running quite well on my sig system maxed out at 1680x1050. I was kind of afraid my card being the 320 version would have a bit of trouble but thus far it hasnt. One question, in the reviews it says you can switch between DX9/10, how do you do that, I dont see an option for that. Only major complaint so far is the amount of hoops you have to jump through to simply exit the game, why do you need to go back several menus then reload a profile to simply exit to windows?

By the time you finish up your mission in Acre or Jerusalem (I went in that order myself), you'll realize that finding more view points and saving citizens is entirely pointless. Then you'll think "Well I could just kill the dude now", to which you'll think "But I might miss something!" So you'll end up doing it all anyway. Plus, assassinating is fun. I had a couple sweet guard kills where I locked on to one from the roof of a building, did a free-run jump off it and popped him in the back of the neck with my hidden blade in one sweeping motion. It's sweeeeeeeeet. :)

Hey Iceman, hehe yeah going through all the menus gets pretty annoying.

To answer your question, if you have Vista the game automatically runs on DX10. To get it to run on DX9 go to your game's directory (for me it would be C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed) then you will see 2 launchers for the game. One will be DX10 and one will be DX9.

hmm for me in vista 32bit, 1920x1200, max details, i get a decrease in performance with dx9...seems like dx10 is much smoother even though many reviews say dx10 is only good for lower settings. Im at about 65+ fps in dx10 mode when i checked real quick

I havent gotten an actual fps count, but DX9 seems a little smoother for me than DX10 with my GTS 320. One other little quibble, why are the graphics so grainy in the lab scenes?

This game is one big fat dissapointment. It's like someone made the trailer (intro movie), sold it to ubisoft, and then ubisoft gave them half the money they needed and half the time they needed because ubisoft is cheap.

It should have been a cross between Assasins Creed, Thief 2&3, SW:KOTOR and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

    Needs:

    1) Less linear game design. Oh, I can climb any building, but I suddenly can't clamber up a 3ft high boulder. The whole world should be interactive and there should be serious rewards for cleverly using the free running system.

    2) More weapons. Where was the crossbow in the trailer? There should be easily three times more weapons - dual wielding, different kinds of swords, crossbows, blowdarts e.t.c

    3) Better character progression. I want to feel like I'm really becoming more and more powerful - I want to run faster, jump further, hit harder, fight more stylishly as I level up - and I want to level up - and I want to have character development my style: if I kill silently, I want to become a lithe ninja; if I kill brutally I want to become a muscular swashbuckler.

    4) Better crowd interactivity and a faction system - like GTA or KOTOR: they had it right when they started with the vigilante's, but they didn't take it far enough. The whole game screams CONSOLE FANBOY at me, like they took a clever idea then just stuck a RETARDS ONLY sticker on it. The crowd sensitivity does **** all: I mean you climb up a wall, and some guy goes "Why's he doing that?". And then you hear it another eleven times. They never do anything. They never get the guards. They never shout HE'S HERE (or if they do but nothing happens). They never spoil your assasination attempt.

    5) More complex combat. Oh, counter kill. Now there's no need to run, ever. All i have to do is wait for the morons to sequentially attack then stand there whilst I sequentially parry their attack and stick it to them in exactly the same way as every other.

There's no need to be stealthy, because you can just walk in, kill everyone, kill your target, then walk out. The AI is ludicrously stupid. CONSOLE IDIOTS MORE.

Oh, and it's short and INANELY repetitive.

Oh, and the requirements aren't that bad. Easier than crysis. 1680x1050 @ Max Details, 2xAA 2xAF, 2/3 shadows 20-30fps except when doing eagle eye on a tower near water.

    Sigh.

    Anyone else feel like me?

Yeah right. Okay, I must disagree with you on your fps concern.
I have a 8800gt and play on my desktop with everything running maxed. Water/shadows.

I understand your argument about about more weapons and better AI system. After playing for 3 hours now, I realize it too, can be better.

But you make it seem like it's the worst game ever. Where's the pro's? All you mention in your post are negatives.

Pro's= Graphics, Story line is enticing and it does repeat but I think most games do that. Sweet game if you think about. Set in medieval time with a sandbox type setting.

I remember playing super mario on Nintendo. It do did repeat if you did one mistake, and yet that game was a huge success. So what's your point?

I've never heard of Ubisoft before this game, so I hope to hear/read more about them.

In case anyone would like to know, AC runs great on SLI (Check my sig)... I have it Totally Maxed out, 2xAA at 1400x900 and never goes below 30 FPS... :D

PD: That's under XP (hence, DX9)... Don't know about the performance under Vista...

I don't know quite what you're saying about FPS. Unless you're calling me a liar. Then I just cba.

But it is terrible; in comparison to what it could have been. I'm sorry, but by the time I'd unlocked counter-kill (read: mission 2?), I'd effectively already completed the game. From mission four on, I was bored ****less. I completed it to see the supposed "BIG OMG XBOX HUEG STORY TWIST".

Storyline is weak, obvious OMG CONSIPRACY BUT IT'S FOR CONSOLE GAMERS SO DUMB IT DOWN TO KIDS TV LEVEL.

Graphics are mediocre. It's barely sandbox, it's only sandbox if you're a moron and have forgotten that there's only 3 things to do in each city, and they're virtually the same. Unobvious kill, blend, run, unobvious kill, repeat. BLAAARG.

Super mario was like a thousand years ago. The latest, super mario galaxy, has done all it can to make things different. It's sure as hell less repetitive than AC, and for christs sake man, it's a console game. It's not designed for people looking for an experience. My point is that PC games have more expected of them.

Assassins creed had more expected of it. It just didnt live up.
