Bought this game a few days ago for $20 shipped at Amazon.

Hopefully this plays fairly well with my new desktop setup I'm currently putting together.

 

The game is good. Great graphics on my end

 

Omg, now i know why you people are obsessed about it, the game is plain awesome! although i wish Valve keeps adding content to it as they did on TF2, i think we need 1 more weapon or two

 

or dead air and the other campaign in versus

 

$20!!!?? Wow! The best I could do for PC was $40.

My name is 2XGTX280, and when I joined a server this kid started getting on me about "NVIDIA GDDR3 IS GAY, ATI GDDR5 PWNS NVIDIA" and how I'm a rich f***** and all these mean things. I didnt want to tell him all I had was something of an overclocked 9700M.

Got really annoying so I ended up muting him. Geeeez. I mean, can't a guy dream w/o getting harassed!?

 

ehh people think the more the number after GDDR the better, ive met many annoying noobs like those, but that was in COD4, they were bragging about DDR3 ram when it first came out

 

got this game a few days ago....this game is awesome!! looks sweeeeet on my new 9800m gts

 

hahah no point in having a real fast car that can only drive in sand...... well... what iam trying to get at is , you can have really high frequency's but the bandwidth allocation can be small so really no point in having the fast DDR5 unless it is on a 512Bit Bus or a 768Bit.

Valve patched the game so you can no longer use any difficulty but normal on versus. What the HECK! Screw you valve. Versus is boring on normal. I can't stand it under advanced.

I think they also added sound files, but who cares. This game is now boring.

 

No, Versus on expert for survivors is next to impossible for 90% of players.

Advanced is fun as hell though, so yeah, screw you Valve!

 

valve is stupid they should at least make an option for which difficulty

 

just chill. versus is still difficult should you have a good group of infected.

 

I'm really loving L4D, but yeah, I do find that it -can- get a little boring. Just gonna wait for Valve to put out more maps and weapons, as I'm sure those darlings will.

The game does also seem to be a little bit buggy. I've never been in a Versus game online with more than 4 players, which seems to cause some trouble if the AI survivors make it through to the safehouse. Game just... stops moving. Survivors sit in the saferoom and stare at each other.

One thing, though...

If I'm not mistaken, you can't hit a survivor who's being "trapped" by a Smoker or Hunter...

 

Yeah, you can! I often got the "dont shoot your teammate" warning before reading unknown's tip. I've gotten melee'd as a hunter before, everything turns white LOL.

 

Not really, because an equally good survivor team will trump a good infected team. Normal is just too boring. even with evenly matched teams, the humans just take way too little damage. They already have a health pack, now more health. I usually like playing on advanced. Expert is fun, but generally pretty short. Advanced is just a nice mix.

p.s. Telling me to "chill" makes me more angry. Please don't.

 

I swear I usually pump 3 shots with an auto-shotty straight into the Hunter and my teammate never takes any damage. I've done this several times on expert mode so it should be quite obvious if I shot my teammate.

 

That's correct.


Friendly Fire doesn't apply when a team mate is pinned.

are some servers already modding skins to the models, or was valve being funny last night?

we played versus on mercy hospital, and the tanks were always green looking, pretty much like the hulk (except the shorts were green too).

And wow, hunters are the best zombies ever! I used to hate them, until I found out what a Kaizoku Jump was...

 

i like the boomer class the best- it's the most gratifying thing to vomit on 4 people. i don't know why.

i mean your sole purpose is to suicide bomb basically, and you know going in that you're doing to die. but for some reason, releasing that bile discharge on everyone is fun!

Might I add, this is quick godly if done right.

 

Boomers were more fun when you could be real suicide bomber. There used to be a way to bind a key to suicide, so you can explode whenever you want without the fear of being shoved away.

I used to jump down rooftops and explode over all 4 people.

 

so how do you execute that jump?

 

Hold crouch, jump onto one wall and quickly turn to your next destination, and click. Repeat. Pretty fun to do and freaks people out.

the off the wall jump does more damage i believe. like the initial damage to the survivor is increased by a multiplier, but after that it's normal when you're ripping the survivors guts out of his body.

i think one thing that needs to be changed is the allowance for survivors tp shoot at a smoker while being captured by a smoker. or at least take the time down before they are constricted. no other class allows that when you're hit.

hit by a tank- instantly knocked back
puked on by a boomer- instantly stunned
pounced by a hunter- instantly knocked down and can't move
grabbed by a smoker- you got about 3 seconds to turn around and shoot at him and kill him

granted you can melee boomers and hunters, the amount of time given to kill a smoker while you're being grabbed is ridiculous. the only way to pull someone away is when they're utterly distracted and when no one else is there. usually survivors can kill the smoker by turning around and shooting really quickly.

 

and that's why i hate the smoker in versus

 

it's by far the worst class to be, in my opinion. it's tongue often misses, and then you have to recharge. but usually when you shoot and miss, you make enough noise that the survivors can hear you and they kill you anyways.

ugh, smokers!

on a side note. have you guys ever tried switching weapons and meleeing at the same time? it seems to produce nearly twice as fast melee hits.

 

I can do some pretty crazy hunter stuff. Anyone know how to jump straight up walls? It's pretty handy. You can get to places you'd never be able to go.

 

when you're a smoker, and once you snag a survivor with your tongue, do you need to do anything to pull him in? or is that automatic?

The real fun glitch is on the sewer map. If you know it, there's no need to use the lift and alert the horde.

 

its quite fun although i wish there wasnt such a delay in respawning when your a zombie

 

Does anyone know how to improve performance when the horde comes? I have a 9650M GT 1GB DDR2 ram and I get 20fps when horde is rushing me, followed by stuttering, brief lockups, and sometimes a solid looping lockup.

I use to have the looping issue on the demo with my desktop but that was fixed in the retail version, disabling mat_queue worked but that was on a 3GHZ quad core and no way can my laptops T5800 handle the game with only one core.

edit: I use recommended settings, which is something like 1280x800, Shader Detail: Highest, Effects Detail: Medium, 2xAA.
