Is it free?
-
My friend has been playing Aion the past few days and said he is enjoying it very much . I think though for the beta they only let you play a couple days here and there if i remember correctly what he said.
Anyhoo he said it gave him the itch to go back and play WOW again lol but i think i persuaded him to not go back and give up his life again.
@Soviet Sunrise its part of a File planet beta and of course you have to be a paying memeber of file planet. -

Or if you pre-order from Gamestop you get access to the beta as well.. 5 dollars down and you can always get your money back lol (so yes it is free)... I watched a review of a guy playing the Asian Beta, he said he got to lvl 25 in it? or he was able to play for along time it seemed as he counted how much time he played it over a period of one month
-
Yea but i think the US beta is very time limited . you might want to checkout Gamefaqs message board on it for more info.
-
I played it at chinese server for 2 months. IMO it's exactly like lineage2 with better graphic. Gameplay, pvp system, class it's all the same. But yeah a nice game count me in. I wonder if my sony vaio fw490 with 1gb 4650 can handle the game well^^

Hmmm ok I have been watching a few other reviews and they say it's really good... my point is I want to play a new MMO where everyone is not lvl 70 I remember starting a new char in Wow and everybody has the special gear to help them level quicker, or they have tons of money from their old char's and it takes soo much away from the game, people just farm items instead of aquiring them and being happy, and servers are devoid of life at low levels so I have no one to play with until I lvl up... I think though I'm just going to wait for blizzards new MMO though

I'll sit back and see on this one. WAR had huge hype and this pre-order for beta thing and it ended up not really being too good of a game, and it shares a lot of its design with Aion.
-
It plays just like every other Asian/Korean developed MMO shoveled out by NCSoft, so it's a boring, badly designed grindfest featuring 5 million different varieties of elf.
-
Anyways, I already pre-ordered my collector's edition, I love pvp and this game looks sweet. I'll be joining you guys in November/December, whenever I re-deploy. -
Ive played on the recent beta. Its a good game. The settings arrant as... refined as WoW's but then again its still the beta. So most likely by the time the game goes live they will have smoothed out the edges.
-
I was waiting for this for 1.5yrs and Got to play beta twice this month. It's very good. I can't wait till it comes out. I also tried WAR when it came out last year and only played it for a month as I found it completely boring.
-
This game is pay to play right? If so then ill be backing away from this title and waiting for Guild Wars 2 to come out
-
Paying $15 a month for a game you spend 160 hours a month playing is usually a darn good deal.

Omg yeah, this game looks pretty amazing...never heard of it though.
Might be able to get some friends back home to play it. -
ive been watching the game for about 3? years now. it looks amazing. i dont think ill get it though. im super tired of mmo's. im gonna wait for star wars the old republic for my next mmo
-
I won't ever spend my time or money again playing NCSoft games. They've got a really bad track record when it comes to MMOs.
-
ncsoft does not have a "bad" track record.
also, i played the chinese open beta for a week and enjoyed it very much. they did wonders with the cryengine 1 engine (almost 5 years old now) and it looks, and runs better than any other mmo on the market.
gameplay wise, theres a few issues i was concerned with, mainly class balancing that I dont want to get into right here. Idk if ill play it when it comes out due to the huge time sink mmo's are, and me having school and a life to live this semester and all.
dont count me out tho lol, still itchin for it. -
Frankly L2 is still a great game...
NCSoft makes good games and solid communities full of adults.
They also make crazy hard games.
If you want to be max level in few days of barely-attended gameplay, stick with WoW. If you want difficult and detailed, NCSoft makes good games.
The only issue NCSoft has is that their games are crazy botted and ebayers pretty much rule the roost. Levelling without cheating takes many months and sometimes even years... and this is on purpose. They also have class-balance issues often.
However, unike WoW, you will have groups of VERY intelligent and adult-minded people who have to work together or fail. -
-
I'll pass on this game, looks like WoW with better graphics and I don't like that feeling at being a weak noob that knows nothing that I get when I play mmog like WoW
And 15 dollars a month? no thanks -
Time and effort required to level up is one way to do it.
The "fun" is in finding the group and having war stories about doing it.
The detail is in the many class combinations/synergies and overall graphical detail and backstory.
Most players have never even read what the NPCs say and the backstory in L2. It is actually quite detailed...
People who need bigger numbers and a constant "you win" blinking above their heads are more suited to WoW where their fun seems to be in having everything right away and having everyone have everything with very little effort. I find the rewards as shallow as the investment... but hey, what you like is what you like.
I played games on HARD mode on purpose... as I wanted the challenge...
Some people play on easy with godmode engaged because that was the only way they could get by.
Whatever works for you man. -
Game is not for everyone, no game has made everyone happy so far, there will always b someone complaining. Powerleveling, gold farmers, ebayers are in every game , this one is not special or "magical" they will make money in wow, war, aion, l2.......and so on.
And difficulty makes it interesting, I got to lvl 17 and had to already work with a group cuz solo was no go, and u know what, I spent 8 days in total in beta and the ppl I had to group with were all mature, not even one whiner or a crybaby. -
-
Any of you play the beta of Aion AND L2?
Do they seem similar to you? -
-
Guild Wars was a really enjoyable title....probably one of the best MMO's out there (including the P2P titles).
This game looks promising but yeah, im not ready to spend countless hours levelling up a virtual elf xD when i should be leveling up myself with some new clothing ^_^ -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
I was going to post about this yesterday, haha. Anyways, thie graphics on this MMO are pretty sweet im actually somewhat excited for it myself.
-
danfit, I was so pumped about this games unique pricing system (you buy the actual hours of gameplay) so when your not playing your not waisting money, but now they changed it to monthly fee
-
Nice to see that Aion is getting some attention around the forums now.
I have been playing in the US Beta for the last 3 weeks. As an Asmodian. And so far i love it. I like the battle system more than WoW, and the story is very enthralling as well.
I have been looking for a MMO that has the perfect balance between awesome PVP and PVE. And i like how both parts of the game are very refined and work well together, they're not 2 seperate parts of the game.
The story is very well written and gives a sense of pride for your half of Atrea and makes you want to go to PVP and do everything that PVE has to offer as well.
The battle system is very revolutionary but, in my opinion almost perfect. It build upon WoWs battle system and makes so that you have to be involved in what your character is doing, and trying to pull of combos.
Pre Ordered the Collector's Edition and never looked back. Great game that everyone should try. -

he's one of those whiners I was talking about before
won't b missing him in the game

aion will be the best game to be released in the next 2 years probably(throw in the previous 2 years too). if your addicted to mmorpg's this is your game.
but if your waiting for something new, fresh, (or even old, if your an old swg pre-cu fan) then your going to get bored by the end of the free month. -
Grinding for 6 months is no more difficult than grinding for a month, it's just more time consuming and an awful way of masking a lack of actual content.
And it got uninstalled after 2 days just like every other trash NCSoft MMO.
I'll stick to games with mobile combat systems. -
I think you are confused...
Difficulty means one resource or another is required to overcome said difficulty.
Playing a longer-term game at the very least requires more time investment and in L2's case more cooperation.
Endgame characters in L2 (and I assume Aion) require a great deal more resources to create than WoW.
I am hoping you are not implying that WoW or frankly any MMORPG really takes skill of any kind. A retarded monkey banging his head on the keyboard can play WoW and be successful. Note, that I am not implying L2 or any other MMORPG really takes much more... but at least it would take longer than a few weeks... -
okay, yeah this game is very good, ive been playing it for about 4months in the chinese servers now, the flying really adds a next dimension to the mmo and its nice to have so much customization on the character creation, if you got any specific questions you can ask me XD
-
Time =/= difficulty.
A concept that Asian MMO designers should probably consider. -
Seems like some people just plain don't like the style/genre of MMO games rather than this game in particular lol
Lots of MMOs are about grind. Heck, even the almighty WoW has grind in various forms. It's a question of where and how it's implemented. -
I have the beta installed, just waiting for the days when the server is open.....
Waiting paaatiently.....or not -
I played the last beta. Simply put, it was enjoyable. NCsofts most westernized MMO to date.
First 10 levels are pretty much an introduction to the game. Like WoW, it's grab quests, complete quests, turn in for money and/or rewards. Like FFXI, there's the general quests and then the "mission" type quests.
It has its flaws of course, like every other game does, but NCsoft realizes they have a gem with this one and that can potentially steal a lot of WoW players if they do it right. They've been updating things like crazy and patch 1.5 had lots of new goodies, most notably the fact we can control the camera with the left mouse button.
Lots of misconceptions about the game floating around everywhere...most are spewed garbage by NCsoft haters and WoW fanboys. To the peeps who did at least try the game and still don't feel its for them, kudos, at least you had the balls to try it out before saying your critics on it.
Aion definitely isn't for everyone, that's for sure. If you're like me, and many others, and have finally gotten literally sick looking at your WoW screen for nearly 5 years...might want to try this, put down $5 on the preorder, get a beta key for July17 weekend, try it out, if you don't like it, go get your $5 back -
OK, so I am curious, what DO you consider difficulty?
And where do you find challenge in games like WoW?
As far as I can tell NOTHING in WoW challenges the players and NOTHING makes them band together.
Leveling in WoW is so ridiculously easy that it pretty much shouldn't exist. There would be no difference in players if they were just born max level with epic equipment. You'd end up with the same max-level newbies as you have now. Where is the part of the game which gives players something to team up against and learn how to play their character? (what levels are for)
In L2, the long haul to become a factor on the server creates bonds that have earned me many RL friends and tons of war stories that we share.
What do you look for Stoned? -
I am one of the since beta WOW players and have been looking for something different. I found Aion to be extremely enjoyable and pre-ordered it last weekend.
My one regret is I ordered from gamestop.com and they don't appear to have the collectors edition
So now I ofcourse see amazon has it, too little to late I guess. Oh well, I look forward to this games release so I can finally dump my WOW account!
As to the first page post, YES! We need an NBR Aion guild!!! -
i got the preorder beta thing from best buy. cant wait to try it out on the 17th. i just realized swtor wasnt coming out till like 2010 so i might as well try it. plus i just beat mirrors edge and im bored lol.
-
I just preordered it there after reading this thread, is it better than ffxi? i got quite bored of that pretty fast, don't like the whole team play.
Also i know this isnt the right section for will it play on my...
but looking at my specs in my sig, will it play ok/well? -
No challenges in WoW? Nothing that requires that players "band together"? Have you even raided? Have you even attempted any Ulduar hard modes? Mimiron? General? Yogg? Yogg +0 was just recently killed after being available for months.
Then again WoW is in a gradual nosedive to its death too due to Blizzard slowly losing the plot and turning the game into a faceroll party.
What I'm hoping for is that SW:TOR manages to capture even half the fun of near release to pre CU SWG, sure the game was broken as all hell, but at least it had some soul and a great community. Raiding player bought and placed bases in player built cities is also 5 million times more fun than any pointless battleground/arena style MMO zerg PVP.
I'm just wondering why NCSoft continues to spew out the same repetitive asian MMOs that are all much too close to the last big "WoW killer", with clunky combat systems, awful graphics engines, reams of boringass grinding and (usually) potion spamming PVP. -
I had a druid tank with almost 50k hp, tons of dodge, armor, agility, crit, ect. You tank one boss and you've tanked them all, and tanking is the hardest job in WoW which is why I stuck with that, after playing a DPSer and a Healer (both of which are complete spamfests). I know all the healers are gonna QQ now because I've insulted them, but after healing for top guilds in Guild Wars I tried healing in WoW and lol'd because it's a joke.
The only "skill" involved in WoW is having enough time to grind the Gear, Professions, and deciding a decent talent build (which can be found on WoWWiki).
Ok crap i have to get Aion, at least try it!
