Thanks for the answer. What about real game tests, any done?

I've read on the Rock forums that 8700 mobile cards are slower than 7950 mobile cards, but that as drivers get optimized for new 8700 cards they will get closer in performance... I don't mind if 8700 is a bit slower since I think having DirectX 10 support is more important.

Mine's craptacular. I get 3100-3200 average in 3DMark05. Just check my sig for my laptop's specs.

Haven't tried PCMark05 yet. But it reaches a little more than 4 hours of battery life when it's at a critical 5% battery life using the Intel GMA900. Processor running 6x multipliers (800 Mhz) at .892V, backlight brightest, wifi on, 9-cell 6600 mAh battery. I haven't tried draining my battery using the Geforce Go 6600, but I'm expecting it to dip at a low of 2 hours.

    It's not that bad :)
Firstly the Hybrid function is extremely useful - if W3J had this function...
Apart from that the 6600 is more powerful than the X1400 and on par with 128MB X1600 GPUs.
It just means you get less power compared to more comfortable use.

It's a shame, Everyone hates on the 8xxx cards, but if you would take the time too look, real-world performance is on-point with the 3dmark scores. Look up some of GentechPC's posts. He's got all the proof you need that the 8xxx cards are putting out, and holding there own on DX10 games. Just my 2-cents

How do I change the resolution to 1280x1024?

    Options it gives me..

    640x480
    800x600
    1024x768
    1280x800
    1440x900

I have the advanced version, why isn't the standard resolution an option?....

It's more than likely a result of your video card driver. Hrm, you might have to switch your driver out. Do you have a M570RU by chance? For some reason the stock drivers on that machine don't have all resolutions unlocked.

    vostro 1500 w/ 8600gt

I'll do new drivers now, wanted to test it on drivers that it came with to see if there was a difference, but oh well.

Sorry but I'm not up on the accu abrv.

Oh, wait....your machine may be only able to display 1400x900 max. Don't go switching drivers, yet. What display did you buy it with? WUXGA? WXGA? WSXGA? etc.

I'm guessing that your display is WXGA+ i.e. 1440x900. If it is then you can't do the stock resolution of 3DMark06. You will have to do it at a lower resolution. Just be aware the more you lower your resolution from the stock, the higher your score will be.

1440x900 has almost the same amount of pixels as 1280x1024, so bench at that res.

No new notebooks in your chart?

I mean especially those with 8700M & 8600M graphic cards and Core 2DUO processors...

I totally agree with the sadness of the fact, but the Synthetic benchmark and the real-life benchmarks of the 8000 series don't match.
I fear it'll end up misleading people (quite unlike what this thread is supposed to do)

I understand.... what about making a separate chart only for 8000 card series?

More than in scores I am interested in seeing which notebooks are out there with new cards and what's the price.... to see price/value ratio.....
