I will get a 1070 99% for sure as soon as they release them in Spain.
-
I'm actually in the market for a new PC myself. Need something more portable than a 17", though. So, may have to wait a bit.
-
That Clevo P650RS-G is so tempting. I wasn't sure if they were going to keep the P650 or refresh the chassis. I am tempted by avadirect but I want to wait for HIDEvolution as they have better thermal compound and the Prema bios.
-
It would be nice with the QHD+ screen and the 1080. Think it'll house the 1080?
-
Looks like the MSI GT72 VR will get an optional screen up to 120Hz --> 17.3" FHD Anti-Glare 1920X1080 eDP 120Hz Vivid Color
I hope that's the 1999€ variant xD. -
The Avadirect had a 1070, and from what I've seen the smallest 1080 equipped laptops have been large 17" laptops. I would be super super super hyped if it did, would buy it in a heartbeat especially if the 1070 really does start at like 1600. The 4K GSync display it can come with is awesome, and I love the overall design. I was hoping they would a least add a thunderbolt port or something. The avadirect didn't list any i/o specs but it didn't look like it if those pics are right.J.Dre likes this.

Well it looks like the ASUS GL502VS-DB71 just became my front runner. Look forward to the YouTube reviews on it.
-
What puts that ahead of the Clevo P650RS for you? I don't like that its not metal.
-
Looks like my patience is paying off. Was going to get the P650RG a couple of months ago, but the P650RS-G in the link above costs basically the same with a 1070 instead of a 980. That's a huge performance jump for the same (or at least very similar) amount of money. I don't want to get too optimistic quite yet, but this is good news.

Is the Clevo P650RS using metal? Sorry, haven't been keeping up with the Clevo P650 series as everyone in this thread is focused on the upgradeable Clevo D models.
-
Yeah, the fatter VY is considerably thicker than the thinner VT, and I would say that ASUS's marketing is borderline criminal. Heck, in the UK I think they have a law against false advertising and I'm surprised no one has taken a stab at them for it yet.
Just look at:
https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-GL502VT/overview/
https://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks/ROG-STRIX-GL502VY/overview/
They use the same photos for both, of the thinner VT. Even literally of the photo that shows thickness... (with one saying 23.5mm and the other 30.1mm lol). Even the notebookcheck review you linked gets the dimensions wrong because it is so misleading. Similarly, it seems the VS that is coming will be the fat one with 1070, while the VM will be the thinner one with 1060.
Also note the weight is misleading, at least if notebookcheck is to be believed: claimed 4.4 and 4.9 lbs on ASUS's website vs 5.49 and 5.68 lbs on notebookcheck (for VT and VY respectively). -
The GL502 had trouble maintaining heat as well. The surface temperatures were averaging 128 degrees (F), according to several reviews.
I'd recommend waiting for reviews before getting it, just to be sure. Should be out soon. -
Yeah metal chassis and its extremely well cooled. The 4K GSync display is also a big plus, those are 900 bucks for desktop and yet only 125 extra for a laptop lol.Ionising_Radiation and Any_Key like this.

I dont take any chances i will get 1070 with this chassi i know that this modell have Good cooler

I would honestly go with an MSI GT72 or Clevo PX70DM. I have more faith in the quality control of those models.ajc9988 likes this.

Huh, I'll have to check that out as well. Thank you for the info. I was also looking at the GS63 because of the metal chassis as well but I figure that will only be a 1060 and MSI premium "tax".
Ah, Here:

Do you have a picture of px70dm i want to see wich modell that is

Nice catch, the P650RS-G looks great. If this actually is about the same price as the 14" GS43VR that comes with only a 1060 (which wouldn't surprise me given higher MSI prices), I may end up getting a 15" laptop after all

Well once you add a bit more RAM, an SSD and Windows it becomes more expensive, but, as you say, 1070
Prototime likes this. -
My concern is that I don't know whether p650 can hold a full spec 1070 in terms of power and heat. I don't want a crippled 1070.

First is the Clevo P870DM, the biggest baddest machine around,
the second is its slightly smaller brother the P770DM.spmo likes this. -

Both extreme gaming laptops at the bottom are them, the P870DM is on the right.

Thx i will have an eye on that before i make my choose.

For this laptop ,82 and 202 extra for 4k GSync right? But with different processors. Don't know which one to choose hm
-
True enough! I just toyed around with the AVA website to try a comparison. A P650RS-G with the same specs as the GS43VR (RAM, OS, HDD speed, etc.), except with:
- A 500GB 850 EVO (instead of a 128GB PCIe NVMe SSD)
- A GTX 1070 (instead of a GTX 1060)
- Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 (instead of Killer E2400)
- And of course the bigger 15" screen (instead of 14")
Yeah, I'm concerned about that too, and concerned about heating issues for the 1060 in the GS43VR as well. I'll definitely wait to see some reviews on these laptops before taking the plunge.Last edited: Aug 10, 2016 -
6700hq is plenty for most games. If you like overclocking though you should be able to push the 6820HK all the way to 4Ghz. It could be worth it if you plan on overclocking otherwise its not worth just .1 Ghz higher stock speeds.
-
Same here... I'll be purchasing my laptop in November in time for the holidays (don't care if the next evolution of laptops happen in December, I'm buying in November). Should be a wealth of reviews of all the models out at that time.
-
I don't know much about overclocking so i may go with the 6700hq and spend extra money for a SSD and another 8GB RAM. But i will also need to wait for those ASUS ROG new laptops reviews before making final decision :l
-
For those looking for a GTX 1080: what manufacturer have you got your eye on?
-
Clevo, Sager, Eurocom, and XMG.
Also known as Clevo, Clevo, Clevo, and Clevo. I think I speak for most of the thread on this one, though there are some exceptions.temp00876, Ionising_Radiation and sirana like this. -
Out of curiosity - why not the MSI models. Is it just the higher price?
And is anyone expecting any other Clevo models other than the P870DM2/3 to fit a 1080? -
I like the 15'' thin and light MSI's (like the GS60 and the soon to be released GS63), but for anything larger or with a beefier graphics card I'd go Asus or Clevo.

MSI GT80 and one of those monster Asus laptops should.
Also the Aorus X7.spmo likes this. -
They were talking about adding it to a couple other games, but I don't want to speak without confirmation. It makes sense because some games are doing xbox vs ps on the same server moving forward. Why not kick them to that server if the device and settings are a certain way?

There is a 15.6" Clevo that usually houses the top tier GPU's. It was previously known as the P751DM, which stands next to its 17.3" brother. They share specs and often do so without compromise. I'd wait for that.
-
You are missing the limited 775dm variant which is badass compared to the DM little bro. Too bad it is hard to find...
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk -
I don't think that ever had the 980 desktop, so not sure about the 1080.
-
Clevo is Savage. If someone can come up like that vBIOS lock cock block scenario, I guess we can get a huge Clevo user base for a petition to release MXM3.0b...Last edited: Aug 10, 2016

Yup. AFAIK there was no 15" notebook with GTX 980. See e.g. list of reviews here (not complete, e.g. misses Aorus, but still pretty good coverage):
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-980-Notebook.150599.0.html
So far for GTX 1080 we know about these notebooks:
- MSI GT83VR
- MSI GT73VR (new chassis, different from GT72VR)
- Clevo P870DM2/DM3
- Clevo P775DM2-G (not sure but should be possible)
The ones which will probably get GTX 1080, eventually:
- Asus GX700/GX800 successor
- Asus G701 successor
And this one may get it too:
- Aorus X7 DT successor

id wait till volta
980m already handles 1080p fine
1070 wont handle 4k
get a 1070 if you want 1440p. keep current 980m if you want 1080p -
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated - especially that list of GTX 980 laptops. I'd been hunting for something like that.
Either of the two Clevos will do the job. Someone just needs to take my money.ajc9988 likes this. -
Eh I had a 980m. Many many games will not max out over 60. Rise of the Tomb Raider, Witcher 3, Crisis 3, Star Citizen, and a bunch of others.Mr Najsman, Ionising_Radiation and ekkolp like this.

I'm hoping that the P770DM2 will house a 1080, but I doubt it will.

Read that wrong LOL
You will probably only get 1070, but then again anything is possible. Since they're changed the internal design a bit for the two high end models. -
Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
I like the P650RS-G - now we need a P640RS-G. If MSI has done it, Clevo can do it.
-
And cheapah aswell - Will see if I can grab one from HIDevolution (When available, with Prema bios), will have to see if my importer will be happy about it tho (Importing in this country is a mess and expensive, some guys import things cheaper "I don't know how"(bribey bribey (Brackets(ception))))sirana, Prototime, ajc9988 and 1 other person like this.

I wish the aorus didn't cost so damn much. I know there's a lot of BGA hate round these parts but I don't mind it so much. I would consider one if it isn't insanely priced compared to the clevo. The machines are nice and stylish and for someone who takes a decent amount of flights and travels a lot each year each lb less and slimmer chassis is important.
