Anything below 60fps is unacceptable at 4K considering the whole PC would be costing around 5K. 3Gpus = X99 by default.

Well, it will do what it will do.
Should be enough for me.
If only they could come up with it a bit faster
.
I am still threading on picking a portable desktop or picking a laptop that will have 1080M. I think that pikcing a portable desktop is the smarter solution by all means, when it comes to great performance. Either way, even a small, ultra compact one should be a bit faster than a laptop solution right now, as probably they will not release a desktop inside a laptop solution so soon. Also, buying a compact desktop to carry with me, is sure to provide countless better upgrade options. In all directions.
Though I do not entirely understand how to build a PC at this moment and I more than sure would like to ask for help from an expert. Especially someone who understands small cases and how to arrange pieces inside, and compatibility between components. I am having a hard time with this one
I do write software, and building a PC seems both fun and painful. Especially as I would have to invest a lot in it, and I do not entirely know where to start
-
Come on!
Having something 20% faster than Titan in 3 way SLI seems like so much overpower! Like, you could probably play 2 sessions of the highest game in maxed out all settings in 4K, probably above 4K with that. -
Unfortunately, 3 Titan Xs aren't fast enough. Many owners will back up this. Now, if SLI had perfect scaling, it would be another story. 3rd GPU only gives about 20-50% more power.
-
A single titan X was not anywhere close to enough for 4k. Maybe two heavily OC titan X.
I want 60fps at all times locked running ultra on every game. Not enough for 4k means its definitely not enough for 3 x 1440p surround either. Would be interested to see the scaling on the new "two connector SLI".
Google is your best friend. What case are you planning on? Mini ITX is tricky... -
Falcon Tiki, maybe?
I think that it provides a very small case, with great options, and they build it, so I don't have to worry about breaking anything. I began to worry about monitor display though... nothing under 1K that will be good enough for my work AKA 99% adobeRGB under 1K USD. At least, it means I did not search enough. -
Oh okay. But if the HB mode is needed... then meow?Georgel likes this.
-
Well, three of them will definitely satisfy you, lol. I was speaking about a single one performing 50-60 FPS (depending on the game of course).Georgel likes this.

I dont think you should let someone else build your desktop. I always did it myself.
If you can do it yourself, you should.
Its like lego.TomJGX, Georgel and PrimeTimeAction like this. -
I actually am a bit bothered by having to do it in such a small place, such as that case. I really do enjoy PCs when they are in full tower, building one is easy, but in that situation you have a lot of freedom of movement.
With such a small case, I am really worried to not break something, or not see if something is disconnected and such. -

As tgipier said, it very easy to build a PC. The most difficult part is perhaps coming up the the specs and compatible parts. For that you can find help all over internet and even here on NBR in desktop thread.
If your highest priority is small size then be careful that not all small factors support full length GPU (you want one which supports 12").
Personally i would recommend "Ncase M1" for the case.. -
I really enjoy building things/working on things. Would be a pity if somebody else had to work on my hardware...

Desktops can be a pain sometimes. Manufacturers love to put LED pins, USB pins, power plugs, etc., in the most inconvenient places possible. If the case has sharp edges anywhere, you're also sure to find them too. Can't tell you how many times I've knicked myself on a case lol.
At least we are out of the days where you had to set CPUs with jumpers and switches though.
The biggest hassle I had with my build was setting up the Corsair H100i. Never really got the software to work but luckily my ASUS Maximus VI Formula can control the fans on its own. Made a nice rookie mistake too - the thing is in a push configuration. Means I get to take out the motherboard if I ever want to switch it to the quieter and easier to clean pull configuration. Can't beat the accessibility though. Pop off the side and you've got access to everything in the machine. -

Na I still don't believe it t will be long. But define how long. Maybe it will be long for asus. I wreckon late July maybe as latest especially if sample laptops are to be looked at mid June.
-
I actually e-mailed Clevo Taiwan and they said they'd be ready for Pascal laptops by August. I was hoping for 14" pascals but they said ony 15" and 17" is available. I don't know if that counts as legit or them answering a question to the customer so he'd shut up lol.Akaraah, jaybee83, oveco and 1 other person like this.

August even seems early. Possibly only top end Pascal will debut with other ones to follow. Possibly even 150W-180W variants first. I'll be thoroughly surprised if they pull this off that quickly.
-
I wonder why we are still having maxwell laptops coming in.
There are Acer Predators, Asus NEW laptops coming. What is going on?
These are supposed to be ultra fast gaming or enthusiast laptops, what gamer or enthusiast goes and spend 4K or more without even reading that there will be a Pascal card in a month that can do 50% better.
I am at a loss with their marketing strategy.
I mean, if a Predators with 980 would cost 2 - 3 K, it would be ok, compared to Pascal probably, but not if they keep the price at over 4K. -
Most gamers actually
. Most gamers don't even know what Pascal/Maxwell is. The words "<insert popular brand here> gaming laptop" is all they care about, any hesitation vanishes at the sight of the flashy adds and fancy brochures

Well, if August seems to early then maybe that's when they deliver to resellers? Clevo doesn't really sell laptops to consumers, right?

Manufacturers like Asus and Clevo develop new designs for their products more than a year in advance. They have scheduled release dates no matter what hardware is available because they can't afford to wait for companies like NVIDIA. They do speak with suppliers (e.g. NVIDIA) to make sure compatibility is still possible but will release with Maxwell for accounting purposes.
It's a common business practice in this industry. There being "new" notebooks with Maxwell doesn't mean anything in regards to the launch of Pascal.
Wait for Computex. What happens there will determine what's to come.Akaraah, god1729, Georgel and 1 other person like this. -
August is way too early. They may have the machines ready but chips from Intel and nVidia to use? Unless they are skipping Kaby Lake, it seems unlikely.
oveco likes this. -
I don't see Nvidia wanting to miss the "back to school" period of sales.
OEMs will totally forgo waiting for Intel, if Nvidia hands them Pascal chips.
ASUS and Acer are historically late to the party, all the time.Robbo99999 likes this. -
Yes! Good idea about chain between Pascal and Kaby Lake… If make upgrade – better make this together. And don’t forget renewed screen for OLED as Alienware…

i had 200 shares. bought at 34.40. had been holding for a week and then thursday afternoon it started going down from 36ish to the low 35s, so i put in a GTC order for 36.70, '' knowing'' it wouldnt spike that high and maybe id get lucky and take it out while i was driving back home for a few hours from grannys. earnings came out and it shot up and then went up to 38 bucks. knocked out my 36.70 order in a split second while i was unaware. then friday up to 41 dollars.... im such an idiot

Maybe best not to speculate on the ultra short term fluctuations, might be better to relax a little and leave it in if you expect some solid performance from NVidia over the coming months & years. -
The Pascal team mast be make action and not tomorrow – today. The AMD very close from win in mobile side:

You can't honestly believe that nVidia feels threatened by a bunch of rebrands, a Polaris card that may be around 970M, a Polaris card that may be around a 980M, and a Polaris card not even worth mentioning can you? AMD is going to get crushed into oblivion by mobile Pascal.
If anything, this just gives nVidia less incentive to push a high end Pascal card right away. -
Yup. I can confirm. Even people with top end PCs; Titan X cards etc, were going GAGA over Pascal being "only" $600 USD (for a midranged GPU) and praising nVidiliar for "aggressive pricing" and "making top end GPUs actually affordable". They might as well be talking about how to build a spaceship, they're so ignorant. It actually hurt watching them be so ignorant. Like, my head literally started to hurt from seeing so much stupid being so vocal, with everybody RT-ing about it. Just off my timeline alone I counted no less than 25 people who claimed they'd be upgrading their cards come June. And no more than 35 people in total tweeted about it that I follow; probably closer to about 30 people. Just constant streams of people so amazed and going gaga over the lies about it beating 980 SLI.
If this REALLY is the mobile lineup, then:
- PS4 Neo card will be stronger than the M485X, as it seems to be Ellesmere Pro according to the desktop lineup with 36 compute units (as opposed to 32), or 2304 cores as opposed to 2048 cores.
- The GTX 980 will beat it.
- My laptop in a proper SLI scenario will beat it.
- My laptop is from 2013.
- Unless that M485X costs $300, AMD has lost.
- The M490 needs to be FULL Polaris 10, MINIMUM, and hope that Pascal hasn't shoved a GTX 1080 into laptop form (it probably won't... until next year).
- The bloody top end mobile GPU is worse than an upcoming console. NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. They can dive off a bridge.CaerCadarn, Kade Storm, Ashtrix and 7 others like this.
