Computex is May 31st through June 4th. Should be interesting!

Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Current estimates actually put the 1060M's performance at somewhere between that of the 970M and 980M, which is nearly a two-fold improvement. -
I'd be very impressed if that's so. Those lower end GPU's have never gained that much.
-
No, current rumor has it at +75% over the 960M, but still slower than the 970M.
Either way you cut it, that'd be a huge leap for those gamers who are in the $1k budget range. -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Asus announced today that the GX700 and GX701 are coming late June with exact specifications. They are using the 980, 980m, and 970m. Seems like mobile pascal is not ready yet

Given a massive space/radiator, thats all they manage to fit in there?

Clevo refreshes are supposedly coming in September and expected to be in customer hands in October but I have no idea what the specs will be. I don't think Clevo would refresh without Pascal though.

Those ASUS machines are ridiculously overpriced. I'd avoid them, at least until Pascal hits. Get your money's worth.
Seems odd it only has a 980, though. The scores suggested a 1080.TomJGX likes this. -
kaby or BWE? or Both?

HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
I'll bet anything that 24 inch Asus is using dual 980s, nothing more . With liquid cooling they will go nuts on the over clocking . Also, what's the world coming to when we say "only" using 980s? It's not like it's garbage lol
-
Clevo is more likely to skip a processor refresh than a GPU refresh and that would fall in line with the 4Q Pascal rumors.god1729 likes this.

Mobile Pascal won't be ready until December 2021

Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Is that based off the Chinese chart? A little disappointing that the next mid-range GPU still won't exceed a previous-gen enthusiast one.
Didn't the 960M reach 770M levels? -
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
And it looks like MSIs new laptops at computex will also "only" have 980s, 980m, and 970m

Are my eyes deceiving me in that Titan picture? Is the keyboard placed in a traditional spot rather than upfront like the current Titans?
Well looks like I may be keeping this open box 980 desktop MSI after all. -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah looks like they got rid of the mechanical keyboard!
-
It's time to update the mechanical keyboard anyway, we need the low profile Cherry ML switches, which should make room for more battery, other components, or a lower profile laptop:
http://cherryamericas.com/product/ml-series/
The up front keyboard was a barrier to some wanting the GT80, along with the old school trackpad position, and odd size - it's set long way turned vertical.
For me it doesn't matter. I don't use the built in keyboard / trackpad on any laptop, except on rare occasions. I travel with a wireless keyboard trackpad combo, or use a standard gaming keyboard and wired mouse.
After many years of laptop food / drink accidents by myself and family members, costing $100's to fix with delay's in usability until it was fixed, I decided it was better overall to distance the human from the laptop

Noone showing at the Computex event is going to be permitted to put Mobile Pascal related pre-show releases out now.
We need to wait for the official Nvidia announcements before we will see official press releases on new laptops with the Mobile Pascal GPU.
MSI hasn't opened up their Computex web site yet:

With so many Maxwell products launching, nVidia is obviously not ready with Pascal.

It seems unlikely that Nvidia will announce Pascal Mobile shipping at Computex

Not digging the split of GT73 and GT83, I guess it was too confusing for the average (idiot) consumer.
Georgel likes this. -
What is the split? Different numbers only? Or different layout, keyboard, dimensions? There is only 1 photo...
Are they both SLI? GT73 and GT83?
Kinda confusing with GT72 and GT73...
GT72 single GPU model
GT73 new single GPU model, or new SLI model?
GT83 SLI model, but how different from GT73, if GT73 is also SLI? -
DO NOT BUY THE NEXT LINE OF GT TITAN LAPTOPS. That about sums up my help.
-
MSI GT73 Titan SLI supports dual GTX 980M SLI
The GT83 Titan SLI has an enhanced Cherry MX mechanical keyboard with multi-color backlighting by SteelSeries. Supporting high-end GTX980 SLI graphics -
This is going to be disastrous. Even if they push out Pascal in 4Q, all the people who bought Maxwell machines are going to be absolutely furious.Kade Storm and hmscott like this.
-
At least AMD doesn't need to worry about flushing out the previous generation of GPU's from the laptop channel
But with only 1 photo, which is which? More info needed to decide whether to fear the future or not
-
Either that or all the Laptop Vendors will be furious getting stuck with all that Maxwell inventory come Pascal release time.
I can't imagine anything beyond price slashing will induce high sales of Maxwell laptops, even with flashy new keyboard lights. -
To me it makes sense that the photo is the GT73, which has the keyboard in the standard position. The GT83 will have the cherry MX near the bottom.
This means there might be a touch numpad with a clickable trackpad. If the GT83 fixes the power supply issue, it will actually be worth buying. The prices will need to be adjusted well.
MSI's vortex is also still using the same GPUs and it costs over 5K CDN. Not good...bsch3r likes this. -
WOW! +rep for bringing news that GT70 laptop series finally gets the SLI!
That link says that GT73 Titan SLI is the lightest SLI system which means that chassis is about the same as GT72 http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/msi-gt72-dominator-pro# -
The good news is the Vortex is using the 6700k, and support for desktop CPU might make it into the new GT80's... err, GT73's/GT83's...
Maybe that is the differentiation between the GT73 and GT83, the desktop GPU *and* desktop CPU in the GT83 and mobile GPU/CPU in the GT73??
It looks like the new multi-color Cherry MX keyboard is in the GT83, according to the press release:
https://www.msi.com/news/detail/wuP...jfXDF6iOBYkYyjKy15_vCTcmhpsbQQHXlbx6FSPXdyg~~
"The GT83 Titan SLI has an enhanced Cherry MX mechanical keyboard with multi-color backlighting by SteelSeries. "
So what does the GT73 have? That new smaller form factor should require lower profile keys, like the Cherry ML's, or maybe it will be the same SteelSeries keyboard as the GT72 currently has?Last edited: May 26, 2016 -
Not sure how it's possible to really get away with that. Didn't Meaker who represents Sager say that power splitter was only for the Clevo 570WM, and now it's discontinued. The power draw of a 6700K and Dual 980 would reach 450W+.
-
Your average consumer isn't educated enough to care... Until one of their friends gets something new and its better than what they have. That's when all hell breaks loose.
It was originally made for the X7200 but any company can make a box to handle two power supplies, its not rocket science. -
It's unlikely MSI would use a Clevo power splitter
A larger external PSU needs to be developed and ship with the new GT83 SLI 980 and GTXX SLI 1080.
A hefty 450w-550w+ range PSU would be nice for fixed installation use.
Maybe include/offer a 330w for "backpack mobile" use with reduced performance.
Doing the split PSU method is convenient for splitting off a single 330w for travel, but all the extra wiring for the Clevo 330w x 2 seems troublesome. Maybe optimize this method, as it's still nice for bumping up power easily. Support for 2x 450w-550w would be awesome
Maybe they will come up with a "split-able" PSU "dock", whereby you have a single AC power cord and single DC output cord, but you can plug in 2+ 330w power modules that can be also used individually.Last edited: May 26, 2016 -
I find it a bit strange that they split the 1050m and the 1060m in 2 different chips (GP107 and GP106). The 950m and 960m both had the GM207.
Though it makes sense when they want the 1060m to have at least GM206 performance (which would confirm that its power will be between 965m and 970m).Last edited: May 26, 2016Georgel likes this. -
I have hopes that 1080M will at least be as fast as 980Ti. It'll be very disappointing to see it fail to reach that level of performance.
-
unlikely, max will be same performance as 1070 desktop, which is on the same level as titan x / 980 ti (barring +/- a few %). more likely is a somewhat cut down 1070 as the 1080m though
Sent from my Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL10 -
If 1080M fails to exceed a desktop 980 in performance I think will wait until next year for Pascal round two.
-
exceeding 980 desktop levels is far more likely than 980 Ti / titan x levels
-
It'll most likely be able to go head to head with a 1070. I'd stop worrying about it. That's how it has always been.
-
Could be due to any number of things but most likely the memory type.
1050M is probably 2GB GDDR5 while the 1060M is 2GB & 4GB GDDR5X. 1060M, 1070M, 1080M should all have GDDR5X. -
MSI doesn't mind launching maxwell products right now because they can simply launch upgrade kits later, along with new laptop models.
Georgel and Robbo99999 like this. -
You really think gdd5x is coming to mobile if only even 1080 desktop have it? Even there is a shortage of 1080 desktop cards atm.jaybee83 likes this.
