Good point, I hope then that the Pascal laptops aren't too far away, as all these announcements of new models with Maxwell GPUs had been making it look like Pascal is not as near as we'd thought.

What do you expect them to use if not Maxwell? :p Companies don't wait for NVIDIA. They make sure their laptops are compatible with upcoming products from NVIDIA. That's it.

Not surprising to me at all to see new products with Maxwell because that's all that is available. NVIDIA has yet to announce mobile. It means nothing in regards to Pascal's launch date. All it means is that NVIDIA needs to hurry up if they want to start selling Pascal chips in these new laptops.

The business world does not revolve around NVIDIA.

At $3999, Asus could have gone a bit less overboard with the configuration, and cut the price by quite a bit. These 2 items must bump the price up by $1000+ more than needed.

    1TB PCIE SSD
    64GB DDR4 memory

$2999 (or less) with 16GB and a 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD would have been a lot more affordable.

It's also listed a few more places:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234146&cm_re=G701VO-_-34-234-146-_-Product

    https://www.neweggbusiness.com/product/product.aspx?item=9b-34-234-146

And, still noone seems to be carrying the water-cooled GX700...

LOL I'm sure no money exchanged hands, for MSI to already know that their laptops are winning all of the awards, without having shown them yet.

Also hoping Pascal is under NDA, but will be there.

I actually still really want to visit the Razer store at the westfield mall, it feels like a store opened that actually caters to my interests and I live pretty close to it. It will be nice to go there while with the wife at the mall.

My experience with my previous Razor BlackWidow Chroma keyboard was horrible, when I typed fast, it caused the cursor to randomly jump around and while I was browsing tabs would switch randomly as if I had a virus. I contacted Razer, tried many diff. versions of the Razer Software but no luck. Read several issues about their software all over the forums I don't know if I can ever trust getting an entire laptop from them. ASUS, no way in heck even if they gave it to me for free.

anyone who puts out a "premium" laptop with a 970m in the summer of 2016 is knowingly screwing over their customer
it makes me sad how badly companies are treating average consumer who is too lazy to do a basic research and bank rolling such companies

Very true, and they have the best marketing ads to sell their garbage to people who are noobies or just want a laptop that shines and glows and have a GTX GPU yeyyyy!

Yet they can't get the most basic of things to work like the last 4 gens of ROG laptops all have a problem with the left USB ports causing a full system freeze if you connected and external HDD to them. See
    Returned my ASUS G751JY

If you go to the ROG forums, you will see a lot of horror stories that surprises me they are still in business after all this. Coupled with the worst customer service and tech department who God forbid if you had to RMA your system, you may get it with a lose screen connection or something else broken. Speaking from personal exprience and others' online.

that sucks man, I really enjoy my chroma keyboard haven't had any of those issues knock on wood. I also have the chroma mousepad and chroma mouse. all of them work together very well and I have no complaints. I have had one of their keyboards that had a few keys stop working but that's the only issue up to this point that I have had with their products.

ok so maybe I had a lemon then. If they release something interesting soon, I would really like to try one of their machines I like the looks and the keyboard looks way better/bigger than the crippled 15" junk keyboards in my 17.3" laptop

After that issue with the keyboard, I bought myself a Corsair RGB K70 mechanical keyboard but the typing experience was much better and fluid on the Chroma BlackWidow

I have also owned Asus laptops and would have to say I will probably not go back to them now that I know better. It's very unlikely in fact that I will ever purchase another laptop that doesn't support external graphics at this point, I just don't have the money to throw away. Needless to say I absolutely love my p870dm-g

If I buy a new laptop, it must enable me to use my current components as I invested a lot in them like my 3000 Mhz. G.Skill RAM Kit and my Silicon Lottery CPU and my 2x 950 PRO NVMe.

Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to lose all these parts and have to buy new stuff again. Let's see, I hope I am not only limited to Clevo for my next machine in terms of specs I cannot live with these 15 inch keyboard on my P870DM, I can't for the life of me get used to it and I have small girly hands.

Y'know, I think Razer might actually get away this time by putting a 1070M in their future Blades, assuming the thermal performance is up to scratch. To be honest, their machines do look good, and the keyboard types excellently, having personally tried the Blade. However, the price, on the other hand... that's another question altogether.

Razer just needs to implement a 1070m sli option in that 17 inch of theirs( or 1060m sli ). Boom, I'd buy it if I didn't have a laptop yet. And it would compete nicely with Aorus. The 14 incher can have the single 1070m.

Man, less then year ago I got an expected parcel from my father but didn't expect to see a surprise there. He additionally put a USB flash drive "for storing photos from your camera". It was a 16GB... and USB 2.0 one. And I bet he spent 16$ minimum on it.
Now THAT is bad behavior from shops but still a market. You can't blame them for what they sell. What you can blame is for a lie with those sells like "it's best flash drive for photos, mister!" or "you get a possibility to upgrade 880m-based MSI GT72 with newer GPU kits" and then releasing 980m based GT72 in just few monthes for the same and put balls on upgrade promise for almost all countries except USA and few other maybe.

    I currently have a Sager NP8278-S - i7 4810MQ - 17.3" 1080p - 16GB - 1TB SSD - 1TB & 2TB HDD - GTX 880M

My plans are to update in the Spring of 2017. This machine has performed extremely well and I have literally beat the crap out of it. I have dropped things on it, a worker stepped on the ethernet cable and pulled it off a table while it was running. It looks like hell but still runs great. Going the Sager route again if I am able too. I still need Win 7 for my work and they still offer it which is incredible.

RAZER? SLI? In their machines with max storage of 512GB? And 1060M SLI is possibly the absolute worst idea in the world right now... just for how problematic it is with games and multi-GPU. I would still say a single 1080M would be better than 1060M SLI, unless things REALLY change in the very near future. And with UE4 & Unity 5's popularity, it likely won't.

Nah. You should raise your expectations. To be honest, the company with the best chance of making a decent small SLI machine is MSI... if they actually tried. The GT72 has proven their hardware can be top notch in design, even better than Clevo's average attempts. But whether they'd try? And whether people would want to bring a large enough power brick around to deal with a small SLI machine? That remains to be seen.

Consider Mythlogic as well; they're not much more expensive if you're decking out the machine, and they're a Prema partner so you get his mods under warranty. They still offer Windows 7 as well (though only professional, apparently). Be wary that Malwaresoft only lets people sell W7 for a certain time, after which keys vanish. I can't even find Windows 8/8.1 keys except through Eurocom who I am certain simply has an excess of them (like everything else).

If you're looking to get a new machine, you're going to have to face the fact that with Microsoft successfully getting so many users migrated to 10 that support for 7 and 8.1 will plummet very quickly. I'm curious to see how well Kaby Lake and Cannonlake work on older OSes since Microsoft has already said they won't actively support newer chips on legacy operating systems.

You're making this claim based on what fact? Microsoft has openly stated they will not support new silicon on legacy OSes, especially Windows 7. Also new processor specific optimizations for the new NT kernel will not work on legacy OSes.

It's a hollow claim, I am doubting their resolve, and their actual performance / functional effect.

x86 and Windows have been around for a long time, 99% of the functionality will still be there.

The Intel CPU's aren't changing dramatically, and that's not about to change through Cannondale.

There may be functions that don't work under Windows 7/8, but so will there be in Windows 10 - and I won't miss those either.

Then there is the pressure of commerce to continue forward using Windows 7/8.

Hardware must be sold, and if hardware vendors want to sell to the bulk of the market they must support Windows 7/8 for a long time to come.

If worst comes to worst, there is a lot of Haswell, Broadwell, and now Skylake Maxwell based hardware out there that will still be sitting on the shelf when Cannondale ships.

That new/used/refurb hardware will work just as well then as it does today on Windows 7/8.

Eventually Windows 10 will settle down, stabilize, and external privacy and security hardware and software will peak in coverage and performance.

We only need to hold out for a couple of years, unless MS continues to perfect stupid behavior on their massive scale, the we may need to ride Windows 7/8 to EOL. :)

Skylake does need special feature set from the OEM for the Win7 installation, even the 870DM needs Prema's magic. I think It will be hard but they should work imo (8.1 has the full UEFI support, technically It's feasible), the eternal night is coming, brace yourselves for the Digital genocide.

We shall see. Microsoft has never made an announcement regarding processor support before. I'm betting Cannonlake will not function on 7 and if it does, it won't function well. The kernel differences between 7 and 10 are massive but 8.1 and 10 is a smaller gap so I'd bet that unofficial support for 8.1 would be possible but 7 is dead.

Think smaller, think x86 instruction set. Intel and board makers will update their BIOS's and Microcode. Microsoft has no control over that.

The differences between 7/8/10 for Skylake support are for ineffective technologies, like the SpeedStep update SpeedShift, we can all live without it, and most enthusiasts lock the clock high, and don't bother with power saving enchancements.

Only time will tell, but more fear mongering FUD from the Windows 10 camp is assured.

I am sure Microsoft appreciates you passing on their, Booga!! Booga!! ;)

Unfortunately many of the software packages I use for my business simply won't work on anything beyond Windows 7. At best I would have to run it in a VM, but I get your point.

Apparently you don't get how a kernel works so I'm not going to bother explaining it to you. x86 and x86_64 are a small part of the puzzle. As someone who has worked with kernels that don't officially support a processor on both the Linux and OS X sides, I can tell you that it is a fact that if a kernel doesn't understand how to handle the instructions being sent from the processor, you're dead in the water.

At least VMs have gotten to the point that they are incredibly efficient. I remember the days of VMware without hardware virtualization... Not pleasant at all. Now? Other than gaming, I have no qualms running an OS in a VM.

Unfortunately, the killer is communications drivers. If I can't get a comms driver for a Mitsubishi or Allen-Bradley PLC to work on the host it doesn't matter if it works in the client. That part slipped my mind when I made my earlier post. I was still using WinXP out of necessity from 2010 through 2012. Crazy I know.

Well good news on the driver front - Microsoft didn't massively change the driver framework between 8.1 and 10 so most 8.1 drivers work in 10 without issues but yeah if it's Windows 7 only, that could be a problem.

Your BS is weak with me my friend. :)

I don't think you are being anyone's friend giving Microsoft power through your BS trying to convince those that really don't know what's going on that the sky is falling.

Think about it for a minute and I believe even you know it's wrong for you to help Microsoft to strong arm the world by denying the support they promised for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Going back on the agreement we already paid for OS support.

Microsoft has already threatened immediate cessation of support for Skylake before it was released, and nothing happened, all Skylake processors are working fine on Windows 7/8.

MS will continue to pull this crap moving forward to scare as many people into Windows 10 as they can. Don't fall for it.

MS can't stop supporting Windows 7/8 on new hardware, any new hardware, without causing irreparable damage to the businesses, the Economies of the world, so it's not going to happen.

Let's skip this crap for now, ok? It's certainly not on topic.

Multiply that by 10,000x and you have your answer why MS won't be able to hold back Windows 7/8 support for new hardware.

    Support for 8.1 is dead.

They already said they are ending support for 7 and 8.1 in 2017. Both OSes are dead in the water. I once saw articles about how they wanted to move the end of extended support from 2020 and 2023 to 2017 and 2018 respectively, however I cannot seem to find them anymore.

You also cannot even buy Windows 8.1 keys from ANY boutique reseller. Even G2A is out of Windows 8.1 keys. I literally CANNOT find a place, other than Eurocom, who still sells Windows 8.1 with any machine at all, end-of.

I love how when you derail a thread it's perfectly acceptable but as soon as you start an argument you can't win, everyone needs to get back on topic. You greatly underestimate the power of a company with 90% of the OS marketshare and what they're capable of doing and what they /have/ done before. Look at Microsoft's push for UEFI if you need an example. Easiest way to block old OSes? Get your hardware partners to remove the CSM. Windows 7 doesn't play nice with pure UEFI. RIP Windows 7.

    http://www.kinguin.net/category/13653/windows-8-1-professional-oem-key/ if you need one.

But yes, Microsoft will issue critical security updates but that's it.

I already won the discussion and I ended it, no need to continue.

Just because you aren't there yet, doesn't mean I need to walk you there. You are a big boy, you can figure it out.

Again, you go to a criminal activity to solve a problem, create non-existent conspiracies between MS and hardware companies to thwart free enterprise, and steal Windows 7/8 licenses from hard working honest people.

What next, is MS going to bring in Alien mind control to solve their financial problems. :)

Again, just stop, you already lost, you're running Windows 10 :p

Come back and collect your consolation prize when Broadwell-E, then Kabylake has Windows 7/8 booted and running on them.

I think @Mr. Fox would have some words for you. If you think UEFI with secure boot enforced isn't coming then you're sadly mistaken. The combination of settings I had to use to get Windows 7 to run on my P377SM-A was a pain to say the least because I still wanted to be able to boot UEFI as well. The only other option was to run pure legacy and switch to pure UEFI whenever I wanted to run 8.1, 10, or Linux Mint (Mint didn't work well in legacy mode for some reason).

I'll jump off my soapbox because I've made my point but I'm not the only one who knows what's ahead...

There are plenty of places to purchase legitimate copies / licenses for Windows 7/8, you don't have to go to the potentially shady key market:

    http://www.newegg.com/Microsoft-Operating-Systems/BrandSubCat/ID-1149-368

    http://www.microcenter.com/category/4294967276/Operating-Systems

    https://www.google.com/search?q=mic...hPrMAhUBL1IKHaWdAywQ_AUIBygB&biw=1139&bih=649

    https://www.google.com/search?num=5...3.3.0....0...1c.1.64.serp..0.1.59.5n3H-DQUZYs

Lots of places to get new licenses, you don't need to shop in the grey market, but watch out, some of those google shopping ones look shady :)

And, BTW, these are legal Microsoft licenses being sold today, contemporaneous with the new hardware coming out. My receipt will show the OEM Windows 7/8.1 license sold with a new motherboard, CPU, memory, etc.

That requires support from Microsoft. New License, sold contemporaneous with new hardware. They said they would support Windows 7/8.1 installed on hardware contemporaneous with the sale of the Windows license. :)

Win 7 will be dead on 10x0m because of Nvidia. Non 'm' should still get a bit of support so I'm 99% likely to get a desktop next hoping that MS will come to their senses with Win 11. There's some hope with Win 7 Polaris drivers still.

I have always used SLI setups and very rarely do I have issues with it. Every big game has sli support. If not, you can enable it without issue most of the time. Most games that don't support sli are games that don't even need the power to run great. I have every new game ( even OpenGL, Doom) , and they all utilize two cards with a performance increase. The only game that doesn't for me is Ori and The Blind Forest....enough said. Long live SLI

Once Microsoft owns your Ass with Windows 10, what makes you think they will pull back and give it back to you in Windows 11?

If Microsoft is going through all the trouble of painting us all into a Windows 10 Only Corner, with no escape, why do you think they will free you?

Going with Windows 10 now is giving MS the sign that you have surrendered your digital future to their whims.

You are literally giving them the help they need to make it happen by upgrading to Windows 10, or by running Windows 10 on new hardware.

Don't buy a thing that *requires* Windows 10 to run, and stop them now, before it's too late.

If the money stops, they won't have any choice other than to back down and make Windows 7/8/Linux/Solaris/etc runnable on new hardware.

Otherwise you are literally using your own money to make it happen, to make a One OS world a reality, owned by Microsoft.

    They are gonna try it.

Your hands will make it happen, one way or the other.

It's exactly the stupid move the rest of the world needs to free themselves from Microsoft and Intel.

It's just the kind of bone headed grasp for power that the rest of the world will laugh at, and then develop their own technology to replace Intel and Microsoft's hegemony.

Microsoft and Intel could have kept this going for decades more, but instead they are gonna blow out in a few short years by forcing everyone's hand.
