Hey Crylo, if you buy the PS3 version it includes the steam PC version free.... best of both worlds! Co-op on console and a full play on PC.
Amazon has it for $55 with a $20 gift card with purchase.
-
BTW, Portal 2 has cross-platform gaming between PS3 and PC. So PS3 guys can play with PC and vice-versa.
-
I hate trying to aim with a gamepad. Good thing it's a cooperative game and not a competitive one. PS3 players would be rage-quitting all over the place -
I think this is a good step from Valve and Sony. I have a couple of friends that have a terrible PC, but have a PS3. This way, being a co-op game, I can play with them without the need of buying 2 copies! -
Looks like all the bars for each game in the list have to be "full" to launch early, and based on time in the game. At this rate, it might be one day early, big deal.

the end of the world game is filling up so much faster than the rest...
I put in 3 hours of "the ball" and "beat trip" so I did my good deed for the day. -
FYI: for people who want a good deal on portal, its $35 bucks at Best Buy!

(Double post) Look what you made me do Phistachio....

Portal 2 - Mac/Windows -
Every game's bar, when filled up ('completed') shaves off 1 hour off the initial launch countdown - for instance, now that 1 bar is done, 1 hour has been taken off the counter already.
Since there are 13 games, you can, at the very best, get portal 13 hours earlier.
So.. Yeah. Half a day. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Looks like not every games bar must get full to unlock the game. Its close to 1/4th full on the main bar but many of the games are not even close to 1/4 full.
End of the world is done, not sure why that one got done so fast, I guess they had a lower # of people needed for that one than the rest (others are very high look at killing floor with 5000 its behind many other games with only a couple thousand)
Edit: nvm looks like each game takes time off on its own rather than a "when this bar is full game comes out" makes sense I guess since they never release games on the weekend, steam itself is closed unless they had staff just for this event. -

Guys... you realise that Valve is not going to release Portal 2 any earlier just because people are playing potato sack games, right?
That counter is just going to keep on counting until the 19th, the official release date - it's all just a stupid game just to make sheep burn holes in their wallets and buy the potato sack.
You may as well just give it up, for Christ's sake. -

Here's a good site:
Has Portal 2 Launched Yet? -
I am not playing into any type of marketing ploy like this purely on principle. This is purely speculation and there have been no hard promise to even release Portal 2 when the bar fills up, as far as I know. What if all we get is a "thanks for spending money, suckers." I'll still be here, playing my already-paid-for BFBC2 until it's out.

Well, at Steam's site, in BIG BOLD LETTERS it says:
-
Valve = king of marketing.

Oh man forgot I work tonight covering for somebody and my entire day when not watching the kids was donated to potato hunting... its going to be a rough night....
I thougth AAaaAAaa! was hard, but I had to redo amnesia 5x just because of one small mistake each run.
Now im on Cogs and OMG... its so friggin impossible, I was never good at these slider puzzles anyways. When I was a kid I would solve them by breaking out a piece so I could move them around and then put the piece back in.
Audiosurf was no cake either. -
Audiosurf was funny... the best strategy was to go on easy, hit every block possible and prioritize hitting cubes. No thinking or matching or avoiding anything!
-
Funny... The best and most fun games are indie... Not big-developed games...
Ironic, ain't it?
I am really waiting for Star Forge to beat those 180000 points in AudioSurf... He said, if he beats the game he would either gift me Audiosurf or Amnesia... :3 -

I got all my Potatoes in
AAaaAAaa!!!
Beat Trip
Amnesia
The Ball
Audiosurf
Cogs
Next up is Defense Grid, I am just running down ABC order basically. -
Are you doing it solely for the 36 potatoes vic? You've got the most taters out of anyone on my steam list... I've got a couple save files that could save you a lot of time.
Of course, most of the fun is in playing the games, but there isn't much time left before launch... -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah just for the taters
If I was not watching the kids all day and at work right now I would have a lot more. -
Check pm's in that case!
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Got 24 taters now.
12 more to go. Have to wait till I get home and try to finish tomorrow
drop that beat is a horrible game, just a poor clone of AAaaAAaaAA!!!. -
Check out this theory:
375,466 potatoes needed for overclock. - Steam Users' Forums
375,466 potatoes needed for overclock. It's at ~ 365,000 right now. I got 3 spuds. Sorry, about all I can do. All the others are too much effort and don't have the time at the moment. I'd rather spend this time playing Portal 2 but oh well. Gonna be gone all day today, with my luck it'll be launched, lol.
On a side note, I can't believe how many Valve fanbois there are on those forums. OMG. Say anything bad about Valve or their games and you're lambasted from all directions. I don't get it. Valve is privately owned so nobody can own shares of the company, not sure what people get out of it. -
Goodness. Valve is losing some of my respect:
About cheating to obtain potatoes - Steam Users' Forums
They are removing potatoes that have been using some of the "cheating" methods. I thought this whole ARG thing was about thinking outside the box and coming up with the fastest way to get the game released as early as possible. I didn't think there was any possible way to "cheat" because nobody is hurt, but EVERYONE benefits. Sounds like people are beating them at their own game and they're pouting about it.
Here's a good post on it:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21857512#post21857512
Ehmmm, not to be joining the darkside here.
But technically this isn't cheating.
This isn't a competition. It's a system we have to beat to get Portal 2 released early..
It sounds like we just beat that system and now it's being called cheating because... because why exactly?
I'm not sure what the downside is here. I earned 3 potatoes (and looked at passwords on a guide to get them), and I don't really look at other people's potatoes and go "Woah dude awesome 'taters".
They're not a status, they'll be deleted as soon as the ARG is over right? They're just a function of the ARG as far as I'm concerned, they're not even a mark of how much effort you put in really.
Kinda being a spoil sport there Valve. You want us to win, yet you know we don't have enough users to get an early release, and then you tell us you're taking you're ball and going home if anyone trys something outside the box again?
There were no rules outlined at the start that said "Here are the limits on potatoes and acquiring them." so I reiterate.. how is this cheating?
I think it's bad form in my opinion. Someone put some effort and know how into beating the system and then you slap everyone for it instead of rewarding his ingenuity.
You could still have said "Good idea, here's a boost for your efforts, but we can't let you finish it out that way, sorry"
Nope, instead it's "Game will be shutdown if this happens again."
Good sports. -

yeah but you get a special model for the portal gun. "We can't have people cheating to get that"
...when you can just do a model swap or something a week later most likely.. -
Right. If they were giving all 36 potato winners a game of their choice, or things with decent monetary value, then I can understand. But a stupid in game model that nobody cares about? Even so, then they need to correct the problem instead of pouting about it. Or lay a few ground rules ahead of time because there were none.
This only tells me they had no intention of releasing the game earlier than midnight (12:01am) Tuesday anyhow. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah.
Honestly I didn't expect the game early when I saw Glados@Home. The countdown made me think it was gonna be released then (instead it's a countdown to a countdown and a "buy more potato games!") kinda thing. Oh well.
Also, the only indication anything is happening is that it gets released an hour earlier each time a game is completed.
the white bar seems to sorta match up with the timer (though maybe it doesn't it's really hard to tell) so...*shrugs* -
-
Can someone please explain to me what ARG is and what this whole potato thing is all about. Valve released potato hats in tf2 and I honestly don't know what significance they hold.
-
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
probably gonna get it 5 or 6 hours early.
*shrugs* -
down to 3 AM Tuesday for me. that's 8 hours earlier. of course, I won't be awake then. so I'll play it at the same time I would anyway. I will be able to if it gets to 10 PM Monday Night...
-
Bah, only 5 hours before the 19th April launch... If it's ready, why can't they already release it...?
-
-
gahhh i gotta wait a few days until my amazon order gets here
-
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
why can't the distributers mail them out early? you get them, you stil can't play until steam itself gives you the okay
(console versions wont work of course since it can be played "offline" before the release date)
(i have the steam version of course...
-
PC DVD is same as Steam if it works like all other Valve games. You just get it in a box on a DVD, and requires Steam to play. You should be able to just enter your key and download it from Steam too if you'd like.
-
yep pretty much... for 35 on amazon it was a steal

I didnt sleep today, spent all day hunting potatoes, id be done b y now but i was missing one that I had supposedly gotten and there is no way to know what it was so I had to do all of them all over again, and over again, just incase there was a bug.
I just now finally got it... it was the potato one on killing floor. Guess I was DCed from steam when I got it, or didnt know the password. I only found out because it was the only game I didnt have the DLC for.
Now I only have 2 games and 4 potatoes to go!
Not sleeping when I get off work till I get them.
Woderfull End of the World, and Toki Tori.
Oh im so glad im almost done, I hope the reward is worth it! -
What is the potato-thing about? I just play the games - How can I see the amount of potatoes I've earned?
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
nice you shift it further and further trough my workday, so in the end, it's release when i START working. instead of being released when my work's done and i can enjoy it. now i'll be at work waiting 9 hours to be able to play it like everyone else..
s, you!! -
Hate to say it Vicious but it will probably turn your Portal gun into a Potato gun or something silly like that. After trying some of those potatoes, I just quit because it was more time than I had to play to get them all.
I hope it is worth it though for your sake. But after how this launch has been going, at least as far as an "early" Portal 2 release, I'd say prepare to be disappointed.
Portal 2 has been released!
