I also beat it in about 6 hours, even with messing around and just being stupid on some tests.

Title of chapter 9 was hilarious!

Man I must be dumb or slow or both. I'm not rushing through, but not going slow. Sometimes it takes a few tries, or some trial and error to figure things out. I guess I do stop to admire the scenery or the levels and look around every corner. So far there's been nothing worthwhile extra though.

Your steamapps folder doesn't have the files in it? It should.

I'm intentionally going slow to savor the game fully. I check every corner and literally everywhere for easter eggs/secrets. I'm still on chapter 3 as a result lol

Hmm, a Steam backup of the game burned onto a DVD...that's essentially what I would be doing if I downloaded it onto my netbook anyway.

I'll PM you my address...I can mail you a postage stamp :p
So if I just copy that half-finished folder to my netbook and go to a library or something, it'll just pick up at 58% where my desktop left off?

Yes it will. Don't worry about postage stamp. If I get it in the mail today it should be there tomorrow if post office is moving reasonably.

Yes it should also finish where you left off if you copy both the portal2.ncf files (there are a few) from your steamapps folder as well as the portal 2 folder from "common" folder.

Hi guys, i have never played any of these Portal games before. Reason why is because i have the (bad?) ability to stay up all night if i am stuck in a game. I HAVE to finish whatever i am stuck on or else i just can`t get any sleep before it is done :p

Would you recommend me to play the Portal 1 first or should i just jump to Portal 2? And are these games hard? Thx

I haven't played Portal 2 yet, but I definitely recommend playing through the first, even if just for the fact that it's a fun game on its own.

Get the Orange Box on Steam if you haven't, it includes Portal, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2 and both episodic expansions. Hell of a deal for $30.

Definitely. It will also be a little "shallower" jump into the pool of Portals. My best advice is to just stop playing at a reasonable hour right after you finish a level and before you even see the next one. Otherwise you will be up all night ;)

I remember being to finish Portal 1 in about 2.5-3 hours, and loved every minute of it, can I assume this game is longer and more enjoyable? Really looking forward to playing this one, I just have a bunch of others games to play at the moment.

portal 2 is 5-9 hours for single player (depends on how fast you go, if/when you get stumped, if you try searching for all the hidden ratman rooms (there's like 15 of them or so and they're not obvious like in portal), and the like).

    Then there's 3 or 4 hours for co-op mode.

I don't think I found any rattman rooms. Seems like there were lots of places you COULD go but just for whatever reason can't.

Just got done. Nice, but not as nice as Portal 1. I enjoyed it though. Only near the end did it get a little tricky.

It doesn't feel as nice as portal 1 because most people already got used to portals and whatnot. Also the innovation factor's almost gone because of portal 1 :D

These guys are very popular, I cant compete with there fan base but I honestly do not like there casting too much.

A bit too much goofing off and having no idea what to do and not enough gameplay.

I think something between there style and a walk through witch is no humor and just a guide is what type of recording I want to produce.

It should be fun/funny but actually useful to watch as a walk thru at the same time.

Vicious, I'd be willing to do a walk-thru with you. But would like to do co-op once with someone else who hasn't done it yet just for the sake of both learning as we go.

Nope me and Hiro beat it start to end with not one bit of voice.

Having voice can make it more personable and easier though.

The game gives you the ping tool and the ability to use text chat, thats all you need.

I have played with The Happy Swede already a little, and man that was fun!

But still, when/if I do the walk-thru with you, I will pretend like if I didn't knew the firsts levels :)

I already wanted to play with you for a loooong time... How have you been? :p

Ok now i have finished Portal 1 like some suggested. Took a little over 2 hours to complete it. I really like GLaDOS. One funny machine. And wow that song "i am still alive" at the end was good :)
But i must say i am a bit disappointed that it was so short and extremely easy. Steam system requirements was 5GB and i thought that it was a huge game. Oh well, alteast there are bonus maps and acievements i can try if i am bored. I imagined real difficult tasks that put the brain to the test, but it was more of a brain teaser. Not shure if €40 is worth it if Portal 2 is just as easy and short though...Hm will have to think it through :)

But this said i think that Portal 1 was new and innovative and fun to play. Not many puzzle games out there.

^ Remember the first portal 1 was never really a full game. It was originally a "throw in" for the Orange Box. A bonus of sorts, that kind of became it's own hit. Most people got it that way, or via FREE from steam deals. Would I pay $9.99 for it? in hind sight no, but it is worth that much =)

Portal 2 on the other hand is more of a complete game, with co-op and other things to unlock and earn including achievements. You can probably find it cheap on eBay if you have someone that can link a PSN account to your steam account. $30 is the average price.

Just finished the campaign... One of the funniest campaigns I have ever played! It was fun, action-packed, a little challenging... A truly enjoyful campaign! :D 10/10

I just beat co-op with Vicious! It was really fun! :D

Also, it would be awesome if they implenented something like Capture the Cube, or put the orange stuff and do races... That would be awesome! Like surf mod in TF2, CS and CSS!

Can't believe I never played portal
I've had the orange box for a coupla years but never got round to it.

With all the portal 2 hype, I decided to give it a run

I can't believe how AWESOME it is, its a total change of pace from all normal FPS shooters, and I love the puzzle aspect :D :D

Still playing through it, but I will be buying portal 2 as soon as I finish this, or probably after my exams because I don't want to fail :p :p :p

Great game highly enjoying it and fantastic humour and puzzles.

You know a game is well made when the graphics are good and your getting 150+ FPS at 1080p very high without vsync :D

    Me wants your laptop :(

I still get REALLY nice frames of 35+ FPS, sometimes dipping to 30, 1080p, maxed, 16xAF and 4xMSAA :D

I'm on a 5730! Pretty good for that little boy :D

It may be good now but it was a bombshell to begin with. After flashing left right and centre updating the drivers over and over, replacing the touchpad, repasting the GPU/CPU and upgrading the screen it finally runs how it should do. :notworthy:

And anything above 60 means nothing anyway as screen tearing rips you to pieces :p

yeah me and my undervolted and underclocked 5650 (thanks hp...) are jealous.

'course I mean, I still get 35+ fps for the most part at 1600x900. drops to 20s like twice (Glados's room when you first show up there at the end of chapter 1 mainly)

I came from a 2ghz C2D and an 8700M GT SLI just two months ago to what I have now so count yourself lucky with what you have :p I was living with 15-20FPS.

You cant beat GDDR5 though it may have had its problems this asus but it is obscenely quick compared to DDR3 the difference is clear cut against what I had before & a nice hot o/c'd I7 thrown in the mix.

I sold my girlfriend to be able to afford it. Worth every penny.

Still better than what I have lol :p :p

You sir just made my day LOL :D :D (+ rep for you tomoz ;))

You guys give me hope that my (once :p) midrange 9600M GT should be able to "max" this at native res of 1280x800. It has started struggling with the latest of games on med/high which is a given as its seen 2 and a half years of service going onto 3.

I really hate to do this to you but some numpty was selling it on ebay for 500 quid im in the UK it was the US BB with the 6GB 1333mhz RAM and a 7200RPM HDD. I nabbed it before anyone else had a chance even drove and picked it up because I was worried someone else would. Mint condition.

Got it home spent 70 quid on extra 500gb HDD and extra 2GB ram along with some new thermal pads and IC7 and a new touchpad. Stripped it flashed everything, pasted and replaced the touchy.

570 notes and its what is listed below. I sold my second hand G70S that I had before for 600. Did get rid of the mrs mind but that was not G73 related.

    30 quid profit.

One thing I will say is they dont make them like they used to just look at my G70S lol it was a monster alluminium masterpiece. Good ol 8700M GT :)

Agreed as well I wont sacrifice frames for AA because the difference is so minimal that gameplay is more important. AF does not do any damage so I push that up full. I only use AA as an added extra if I have frames to burn off because that is what its good at destroying frames rates.

It's not that great. 70% of the time you purchase one, you'll spend about a week trying to flash everything, update drivers, see which version works, troubleshot various keyboard and touchpad issues, and then tear it down and repaste it (obviously this SHOULDN'T be necessary).

Any other laptop with a GTX 460M or a GDDR5 5850M will honestly beat this thing out in performance, due to Asus's crappy redesign of the 5870M (same reason we had the ridiculous GSOD problem for about 8 months after release).

It's a nice laptop granted, it performs decently for the money, but it's really not worth it for all the problems you have to go through to fix the damn thing. If you're a serious gamer, save yourself the trouble and get an Alienware or a Clevo.

That said, I'm running Portal 2 on maximum settings (1600 x 900, full AA, full AF) and it looks and runs beautifully.

I would like to see either try! My little G series would Jean Claude Van Damme both of them! :D

I can't find the post, but there was one guy in OT who owned both the G73JH and an M15x with a 5850 GDDR5, and the 5850 would consistently outperform his overclocked G73JH 5870.

Go and look at the M15x benchmark thread, and compare them to the average score of the G73JH.

Alas average scores I do not doubt I just think I got lucky with mine, I was looking at FF14 benchmarks earlier with people who have the JH model and running it at 1080p and barely reaching 2000 points when I ran it I hit 2440 and 3820 at 720P. Along with my strangely high benchmark results below I think Asus might have accidently soldered two 5870m together in my laptop. :p

    Uhhhh... there is a huge difference between 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080.

Running on the HD5730 atm and found it very playable at 1080p (No AA/AF, shaders on high rather than very high, everything else high).

Ofc its running at 875/1100 which might help lol.

Great game. Just finished it a few minutes ago. Can't believe people are complaining about it being too short. Whether it was short or not... the game itself was great, the dialogue was absolutely fantastic, and when it comes right down to it I enjoyed myself.

FYI: Ran it just fine with my specs on max settings @ 900p. 680/880 for my gpu.
