Oh, absolutely it is valuable and compensation is needed which is why I like to help out as much as I can. I love donating to independent developers because I know my contributions help a lot, and it shows that I really appreciate the work that they do. I would have no issues with mandatory cost, I pretty much pay for everything he gives me anyways which I have no problems with. I would pay for ThrottleStop too if UncleWebb would let me.

I don't mind donating for stuff like this.. I did donate but I didnt inform Prema back then because I did as I said... Genuine mistake on my part about the Jan thing.. I was undergoing a lot of stress back then about job etc... Will make up for that this time...

70k with no donations is a bit much for how much work he does. I've donated 4 times, my most recent being February 4th. I don't really understand the whole hit'n'run mentality. You're going to spend 1k+ on a gaming machine and can't spare 10 or 20 bucks to support the person who unlocks the real power of the machine? Not very nice.

I didn't wanna make anyone feel bad...
It's just hard for me to justify the time and energy that goes into the prema mod project if I have very little to show that comes back. Hence I am very grateful for every token of your appreciation...Thank You!

I installed the ASUS v1.1.1 980m vbios done by Prema today and am using the 361.43 drivers. Should I flash back to my stock BIOS for now until he releases 2.0 for Asus cards or just see how it goes? What exactly are the issues created by the 361.xx drivers and pre v2.0 prema mod?
-
If you were affected, you would know because you would have a black screen right now so it sounds like your mod is fine.

Thanks for answering. Is the black screen is the only conflict?Ethrem likes this. -
The black screen is the main symptom, none of us got past it. Try firing up a game and see how it performs.

I played some SC2 LotV for about two hours and got some TDRs about an hour and half in although I was getting them with the stock vBIOS so I wouldn't chalk it up to Prema's BIOS. I am going to up the voltage slightly and see how it goes. I didn't realize that people seem to be staying on 359.00 for stability until today as I have been combing through the forums for the first time in years. I can't remember which drivers started it but I used to be rock solid in every game and all of a sudden, last year, some games (ARMA 3 and SC2) get TDRs. If I can't fix those with upping the voltage I may go back to 359.00 to see if those games won't TDR.
Thanks again.Ethrem likes this. -
I was running 347.88 until about two months ago... NVidia has put out some horrid drivers recently. Funny thing is that I'm using 361.75 on Windows 7 without a TDR yet 8.1 and 10 both do it constantly (I actually had a 15 or so string of TDRs with Windows 10... Just one right after another - while watching an SD video on VLC of all things).
-
i_pk_pjers_i Even the ppl who never frown eventually break down
I havent had a single TDR on 359.00 or 361.82 on any of my laptops or desktop, laptops using latest Prema v2 undervolted vBIOS.

Yeah, that sucks. I have only have TDRs in Arma 3 and SC2 which are probably the two most CPU rather than GPU intense games which is interesting to note. Everything else I am playing has been completely rock solid other than Rocket League which was solved by taking down my memory overclock down from +300mhz to +250mhz in nVidia inspector.
-
of course it works because you're not using a laptop with a non compatible card!i_pk_pjers_i likes this.

Will this work on a GTX980? More specifically, an MSI GTX980? I checked the website, but it specifically says 9xxM. Not sure if that's an oversight or if they have a different vBIOS format.
-
No, it will not. Flashing it could brick your card.

Sorry it took so long to follow, but this vBIOS is no go for the Alienware 18. The second GPU fan does NOT spin, and gets hot way too quickly. @Ethrem @Prema
I would like to request an Alienware 18 baseline vBIOS with the following:
1. Patch to take new nvidia drivers.
2. turbo clockspeed full time, no mods to clockspeed
3. Set base voltage to 1.000V, leave the slider open for adjustment. It seems undervolting is impossible in Maxwell with the slider, so please set the voltage lower so we can work our way up.
Thanks. I have the original Dell vBIOS files for primary and secondary cards if needed. -
I concur. When i had originally installed the new V2 bios on the Alienware 18, i only did one run of firestrike, and because my scores were similar to previous runs i assumed there was no throttling, there for both fans were spinning fine. After testing further today the second fan does not spin while in windows.
Sorry Prema and Raidriar for the false hopes on this.
I have learnes a lesson here not to be so quick, and test things more thoroughly.D2 Ultima likes this. -
i still have no idea why the 361.91 drivers don't let me boot with a 120hz panel?!?!
-
I don't just get why It's exclusive to Win10.
-
i dunno. i can boot into 60hz but not 120hz...i can do 120hz with 361.75 so i don't understand. could it be a driver issue or something in the vbios conflicting with the panel?
i dunno. -
My guess would be the driver, vBIOS shouldn't have any issues like that unless a similar issue like back with v1.x of Prema's vBIOS had issues to boot with the 361.xx base and needed new v2.0. Man this is growing like that Flood from Halo the infestation of the broken ngreedia drivers. Plus the WinX utterly breaking things here and there...

both times i had the v2 vbios so that didn't change.

I wonder if anybody else with 120Hz can confirm if booting with 361.91 and 362.00 works or not. I don't want to update my drivers to find out I boot to a black screen. Since Dying Light's performance dropped SIGNIFICANTLY (talking 30fps or more) with the update for The Following (I don't even have the DLC), I figure the drivers might actually make some difference this time.

Set $1 fee for every download of your mods Prema.
Or a mandatory $1, $5 or $10 option.
Those that pay $5/$10 will make up for a good deal of those that get the mod from a "friend" that paid -
Boots. Won't run monster Hunter online full screen. Flickers and makes it a borderless window. More nVidia garbage. Does the same with FFXIV but doesn't with Catzilla. Go figure.
People that distribute his work without his express permission will get theirs... If I were Prema, I'd set it at 10 and 25 for every custom mod. Don't think for a second that he couldn't make unique bits to see who distributed it either. I did when I was making OS X distributions... Everyone who was caught was publicly outed.
I've donated almost 100 bucks for him spending his time making me a custom system BIOS logo and undervolted vbios. If you're going to spend the money on the machine, you might as well tack on money for the person who unlocks the functionality for you that you should have had for the start. These mods take time which is why I don't blame him for moving to buying from his partners. Prema has helped me a lot... Like when a vbios that wasn't his bricked my Clevo...Last edited: Mar 6, 2016Papusan, Prema, Spartan@HIDevolution and 2 others like this. -
Oh well that I could deal with I guess. I don't run Monster Hunter nor Final Fantasy, so that would bode well. Any other games it can't stand fullscreen on? Any CoD games or Binding of Isaac or Skyrim or any of that stuff?
-
Funny you mentioned Binding of Isaac... I got it free with Geek Fuel this month but haven't installed it yet. I've been really sick... I haven't been able to do much in the way of gaming... MHO is a benchmark and Catzilla works fine... I can't say for much else but yeah... At least I haven't had a TDR... But I haven't been able to really test it yet.i_pk_pjers_i and D2 Ultima like this.

Hey ghosts. I know our laptops are extremely similar, unless yours has changed since we last spoke. I am running SVL7 and johnksss vbios. It boots 120hz no problem everything is 100% functional with lastest drivers and Im totally stable at 1302/2600 @1.037v. Prema's vbios is not alienware friendly and the voltage is way way too much for our cooling systems (1.062v). Try the svl7 vbios and test it with some lower voltages. I was very impressed with my results.

Prema alienware 18 require special fan table
Is ok to flash svl7's bios into the AW18 980M single? Will auto fan issue arise? -
No problem with v2 Mod and 120Hz on any Clevo's.
Single GPU should be no problem as only the slave FAN is affected. -
Can't recall if it is ok to flash the 980m vbios from the aw18 onto a clevo 980m?

Is that normal warning?

That is normal (on Clevos) and would even happen if you where about to flash your own backup to the system.
