The culprit has been identified as Precision X with any recent nVidia driver on 7, 8.1, or 10. Don't use Precision X and it should be fine.
The spying and telemetry is still there though obviously.

Honestly, I don't think ROTTR was so great of a port. Xbox 1 runs the game 1080/30, correct? With many of PC's settings on "high"? A 3GB GTX 660 should be able to surpass the Xbox 1's graphics settings at a 30FPS target at 1080p. The only reason I choose this card is because picking a 570 or something wouldn't have enough vRAM to turn up the textures, but I want something decidedly more powerful than a PS4, even if only slightly.
Buuut I just checked benchmarks for it, and though they're not inclusive of the last couple patches, a GTX 660Ti can't even handle "high" quality preset using FXAA with Pure Hair disabled. Its average FPS is under 30fps. To maintain a 30fps minimum settings using preset "high" with Pure Hair off, (and Xbox 1 has at least one setting at "very high") at 1080p you'd need a GTX 960/GTX770/AMD 7950 Boost/R9 380 4GB (2GB version goes below 30fps). Every card I called is significantly stronger than the Xbox 1's card. D2 Ultima is not impressed one bit.
I don't hate desktop users man. I hate people who insist on being stupid. It just so happens that a massive amount of desktop users insist on being stupid. =D. -
Good to know, thanks.
Yeah the other stuff and reports of finnicky games/drivers are still an issue. But if my hardware is safe it´s at least an option now.
Another thing, getting it for PC as well as Alan Wake is only if you preorder right? Preordering is not something I´m fond of. Wonder what happens after release, if Quantum Break can be had for PC down the road. -
i thought it was a win 10 only thing... if it was happening on 7 or 8.1 i would have seen it happen...but i did not.
but if plan to use win 10 then yes don't install precision x or afterburner. RTSS is ok to install and nvidia inspector is ok to use for overclocking. -
There were Clevos that never saw 10 that bricked after using Precision X. I don't know about Alienware machines. They were isolated incidents and most likely had more to do with the driver at the time but they happened. Don't use Precision X if you don't want to risk your LCD.
-
ah ok, i haven't seen it happen with 8.1 but then i did take precautions and uninstalled it....so far no issues (other than getting black screens with the 361.82 hotfix driver).

This game is dead before it gets launched, store release without any exe is RIP, masochist M$.
I'd pass this game too...hmscott likes this. -
just get it on xbox one
i won't let the fact that it's only on the windows store be the deal breaker...especially when i haven't really used it. so for me to make a worthy opinion i would need to try it.Last edited: Feb 15, 2016 -
The Windows Store lets you install most apps and games on up to 10 devices at a time, I think people are blowing it out of proportion.
-
i haven't seen it yet on the windows store: only the xbox store
-
Well, you only get a PC-code if you get the Xbox version. So maybe it wont be listed at all, at first.
-
only if you pre-order....i may have no choice but to do so but gonna hold out.

Yes me too with the exception of steam. Steam is easy to use, I can create game backups easily, etc. I don't like the origin or uplay clients but I have to use them unfortunately.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
origin and uplay you can just back up the game files and the client will auto detect them if you point to the directory so it's not that bad: doesn't even register as a blimp on the annoyance-o-meter.hmscott likes this.

It's just having to manage multiple clients and have multiple clients installed. Sometimes I want to play a game and can't remember what client it's on. It would be great if someone developed a single client to manage all the clients for the games you had installed (ahem, Microsoft, ahem)
And Steam's backup sucks. It should give you more flexibility to add updates to your backups. I just copy my Steam/Common folder. I used to keep a backup on my home server, a 4TB dedicated just to that, but it became too tedious.Last edited: Feb 15, 2016TBoneSan likes this. -
Yeah I'd also like some kind of front end app/UI that properly tied them all together.

No mods, nothing.. absolute garbage like Win10, that plagued OS will infest all this new trash from M$, Hope this game breaks and flops with a huge hole blown in the M$ greeedy mind.
end of rant..
But I'm afraid now, if that Master Chief collection ever makes to Windows platform and mark that also a store exclusive that sucks big time, too bad Halo died after that Halo 3, gratz to the Micro$lop. -
Xbox One => Win10 crossbuy will be a platform feature:

for me i don't give a s**** about the windows store: i just want to play the game!

If needed I'll boot this garbage Win X from Ext hdd and run the game...

you should still be able to use nvidia inspector to modify the driver profiles to cap the fps if the game has no proper full screen. it probably means i can't use RTSS either.

My only problem with microsoft is the terrible PC support they had particularly with games for windows live, where they broke all my GFWL games when they went down, and just recently I was able to update them with steamworks.
Lost Planet, RE5, Dead risings, warhammer 40k, and more, simply got owned for months or more because of their terrible implementation (and sometimes, even before GFWL went down, I couldn't even log in).
So I am not excited at all to hear it will be available through the windows store. I hope for an eventual steam release but if not, I think I can live without playing the game. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
If this game gets released on Steam, I wonder if MS will do the Ubi thing - tie it to the Windows Store.
-
it's officially gone gold!

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Never knew there were so many XBOne and Windows 10 users

???
-
seriously? you've never heard the term "gone gold"?
if you don't then it's a nice way of saying the game has gone RTM if to use a more general term.Ethrem likes this. -
Gone Gold is a term that came back from when the gold master CD was made, the final version (believe that? there used to actually be final versions) that was to be mass produced. These days "gone gold" means nothing. It just means the code is good enough... because... well... internetz.

The W10 store is way too restrictive. There's pretty much no way I'd buy a game there, when simple things like .ini edits, injection, modding will be locked ironclad.

Umm... Wait, what? I HATE those clients because while adding a Steam Library is easy with Steam, every time I add my folder to uPlay (which I only use for Watch Dogs (I know it's a horribly optimized game but sometimes I want to drive around and hack things - the game could have been great, better than any other Uni franchise)), I end up having to re-download the 60 GB worth of data... But when I add a folder to Steam, it recognizes everything and I can even move folders from one computer to the other... That's why I don't object to Steam... I've got on average 350GB of games installed at once and I can move them from computer to computer at will.
Didn't AOL actually coin that term? I remember waiting for the GM releases so we could start bugging our favorite tool makers to update... Yes I was a script kiddie... But I'm also only 31... So back in the heyday of 3.0 days of mass email software and that software that played Master of Puppets every time you opened it... I was what, 12?Last edited: Feb 22, 2016 -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
I think it was RIAA, actually. -
I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but RIAA didn't exist in the AOL 3.0 days...
The idea of RIAA didn't even exist... -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Well, if you are talking about America Online, it was founded in 80's under different name, according to Wikipedia.
Gold/Platinum certification for records goes back all the way to 50's as well RIAA itself. -
Gone Gold for the RIAA though was a record that sold over 500k units. Gone Gold for computer industry was the golden CD master. Whether it was really gold or not I don't know.
Who coined the term, I don't know either. AoL disks... oh how I loathe thee. I actually used them as coasters.

It was a floppy disk made out of solid gold, magnetic disk as well. -

I am well aware about gold records but gold masters were completely different... One refers to vinyl, one refers to computer software... I quoted the wrong person but I'm on my phone which would make it a pain to actually get my message to @killkenny1 without starting over but an AOL gold master is what Microsoft turned into RTM... And yes AOL used to make gold discs.

Sorry, it appears that I misunderstood what theghost originally meant.
I though by saying gold he meant that the game sold a certain amount of copies/keys, and not that it went into RTM phase. -
nah, gone gold in software development is pretty much RTM.
Ethrem likes this. -
Also a prerequisite of GA = General Availability.
GM => RTM => GA
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#General_availability_.28GA.29
Their flow chart puts Gold (Master) at the end, when it belongs after RC and before RTM. The Gold (Master) copy is what gets sent to manufacturing for duplication in preperation for GA.
Any bug fixes / changes need to be made via patches after GM duplication

i wonder if i can still use adaptive vsync for windows store games....i tried with halo spartan assault and that worked like a charm but QB is gonna be a whole other fish.

AOL Gold Masters came in the days when downloading the 75-100MB update would have taken hours... Provided nobody picked up the phone... So AOL shipped out CDs to even current subscribers along with extra free hours for the inconvenience of having to reinstall AOL on Windows 3.1 and set your modem up all over again...
When I think about it... Kiddies don't know how good they have it these days... We used to connect to BBS servers or GEnie before Windows 3.1 came and setting up AOL was a multi hour affair as you went through and told the software how to see the modem then connected to every local number to see which was the fastest (and you knew based on the sound the modem made if the high speed handshake was successful).. And we had metered connections by the hour... Man we are spoiled these days!
If you know that this was a flawless connection and you can tell me the speed it meant and which of the two standards it was without cheating you'll earn mad points with me... Warning... Turn your volume down... Something we could do with most modems without passing a code... But nobody ever used because the right noise meant the difference between 1/3rd difference in speed...

i remember when downloading something as measley as 100mb on dial up was a big thing!
now i download gigs of stuff
