that's when i was still in school. i think it was the soldier of fortune demo.... i think,.
100mb now is mere pittance.
so long as this game has proper full screen i should be able to cap it with adaptive vsync even if i can't get the overlay going![]()

There used to be recycling special dispensation for companies turning in AOL floppies and disc's by the #1000 pound weight.
In SV you could get them anywhere - including 7/11 and gas stations
Sheesh, I bet I still have a set of these at the bottom of a box somewhere...

I've actually used a 300 baud modem... Lol

I remember the day I went from 9600 baud to 56k.... wow. 10kb pr0n images never downloaded so fast!
edit: ahh, going down nostalgia lane now, looking at these imags. I had this exact same 1200 baud modem, was pretty popular at the time:

I had a 28.8k. Even when it was the business the Internet never felt fast. Back then it was "no no mum, for heavens sake don't pick up the phone".

I am looking forward to seeing how the game plays and not so much the technical fixes required to get it to run. It should run since tomb raider ran nicely.

Look what you've done, Windows 10 . . .
You've induced dial-up nostalgia. You've galvanised the masses and shot the conversation so far past the sullen dystopia of your design, landing everyone head-first into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where they gleefully start over again, 1200 bits per second.TomJGX, Player2, Ashtrix and 1 other person like this. -

Same thing i said on the gears topic :
windows store only = there is no way. ****ty sandbox, no mods, no overlay, no injection, no sli/cfx profiles, no exclusive fullscreen, no gsync/freesync, 15% decrease perfs because of this damn sandbox. Windows store is by far the worst store ever made. And i REALLY hope they'll sell peanuts and get the deserved backslash. -
Melodramatic much?

No, thanks man. It's officially the flu... Fever and all. But still if I cry over Microsoft it better be an airborne version of Ebola because nothing else could make me cry over Microsoft except blood squirting from my eyes. -
Damn man, and I thought I was being tough on Microsoft

It's just like that game Plague, Inc though... Its insanely virulent with a low incubation period and death in days... So it can't spread quickly across land... But it takes two to three genetic mutations to make it the most destructive virus ever...

I could definitely see the exclusive fullscreen problem as seen in Rise of the Tomb Raider for those with multiple GPUs as an issue. I don't know if this is just the version of the game that's in the MS Store vs the one that's in steam or something specifically because of the store or ecosystem itself? Do the options within the game's settings menu differ between the two?
It's possible the MS Store version could get a patch to remove this problem. Is this only a problem with Rise of the Tomb Raider on the MS store or other games as well?
Would I side with getting a game from Steam vs the MS Store if it was available in both places? Sure, just because I already have a huge investment on Steam. Like most gamers I already buy nearly all my games on GoG and Steam, I randomly buy them in those two places depending on price at the time I want the game and who might get it first or if its just exclusively on one or the other. I don't really have a horse in the race between those two, I like them equally. If I wanted a game and it was only on the MS Store i'd just go buy it there, obviously. Much like Origin or Battle.net. I'd only just continue to use those alternate stores aside from Steam and GoG if something was exclusively available there however. Truthfully I couldn't care less, I just want to play the game in the end.
The one dark horse in this is that if I get an XB One AND PC version both from the MS Store, that would be interesting. We bought an XB One for my wife to play Fallout 4, if I could get games on both platforms for a single price, that might be worthwhile. But truthfully it's rare that I play games on the XB One so It would only be an interesting point to consider but not a deal breaker. -
Well my NCP could see a win 10 store game being played (see highlighted game in pic) and I was able to make a profile and test if i could cap it to 30 and it worked nicely.
EDIT: sure it would have been nice to get an FPS counter but being able to spot the difference in the fluidity of the character's movements and cursor movement tells me it worked.Last edited: Feb 27, 2016hmscott likes this. -
All games on windows store are sandboxed and launched the same way apps on windows phone are launched. The .exe files are not win32/PE exe you can find on steam, origin or everywhere else. They just give them the same extension name but that's it. That's why you can't mod anything and gives many problems with everything i said earlier. And it's up to them to make a connection *their file system*=> win32/pe so that it can be recognized. And it consumes some cpu power to do so.
The purpose is to make apps universal or so they say, unified updates, avoid malwares.
And about the perfs, just look at the neogaf RotTR thread. It's not 15% all the time sure, more like 2%-15% depending of the place.
MS store should get win32/PE support during last semester according to some people on neogaf, unless the rush things ( wich we'll see on QB ).
edit : and btw, with windows store, you are fully dependant on windows 10 updates. Many users complained about it because they got stucked ( remember nov update that screwed many win 10 ) and couldn't launch a thing.Last edited: Feb 27, 2016sasuke256 likes this. -

After reading about the issues with Rise of the Tomb Raider over the windows store vs steam, I think I will pass on quantum break. No sli, borderless window forced and forced vsync? No thanks. I really hope things change or they release a steam version like with alan wake.

I will reserve judgment until it comes out and all, but so far, everything I have heard from the windows store has those particular limits. That's why I used ROTTR as an example, because it exists both in steam and winstore form. I have the steam version and I have no issues with vsync, sli, performance drop etc. I hope there will be a... remedy... to this.

And the purpose was to save user's disk space, didn't we have the NFS Mostwanted with amazing motion capture scenes back in that time and an amazing game to play, over and over..plus QB needs much more requirements on DX12, they could've optimized the game more to run on more PCs.
Another lame excuse to sell more of their proprietary trash, they are wolf in a sheep's clothing...more hate from every forum I'd bet.hmscott likes this. -
Interestingly, Xbone can predownload those episodes but PC cannot and have to stream.
Because we all know PC drives are much smaller than the Xbones. -

they said because it's 1080p on XBox and 4k on PC. But well, if you can't afford a few GB then you sure as hell have 100 Mbps internet connection.

ok so for anyone wanting to buy Gears of War, by and large it runs at 60fps even on a lowly 880m, so if you guys were worried about the no SLI for that one don't worry it runs great even on one laptop card. I still don't condone this kind of bs though by any means.

my data is unlimited but speed is crap though. It's $45/mon with only 20Mbps and my old place was $35/mon with 60Mbps from the same ISP. Two places are 5 min drive away from each other
.

My data is unlimited and my speeds 200/200, and I can't download them but instead have to stream it. The whole point is having a choice. It is incredibly dumb to keep it as streaming only, if you can very much download them.

I've been absent for awhile due to personal issues but I think we are all forgetting the growing pains Steam had... I mean they only recently made the ability to play games without an Internet connection an option when you launched the app without one... Either way, I have an Xbox One so even if Windows Store is going to be all bonkers, I can still play the games... And without nVidia messing up with TDRs........
There is nothing worse when you beat a boss and it TDRs before you can save... -
