Seems laggy to me !Last edited: Apr 5, 2016 -
damn it can't watch any more. really want to play the game.
-
This thing barely runs at 1080p/50fps on a 980 Ti.. Pathetic !
-
yes, framerate is capped at 5/6 of the monitor refresh rate in this game, so 50fps cap on an 60hz monitor. And the locked Vsync is causing some real framepacing issue :/
Let's hope an update will fixe this bad port -
It looks like Quantum Break favors running on AMD GPU's.

Well I'm a bit ticked off that buying the physical copy didn't get me the PC release for free (Polygon and Amazon both failed to mention that snag) but seeing the PC performance I'm not missing out on much. I played the first three acts last night and its a pretty incredible game. When time stutters, its just flat out trippy. At least I got Alan Wake American Nightmare for free from Amazon but yeah, this is a really nice game. I wasn't really too sure if Remedy could pull off the experience they wanted to but I actually like it.
-
From the videos I have seen, it seems the Xbox One is the current best version, if only to avoid the stuttery of frame pacing on PC, as well as uneven performance.
As for the PC copy, now that you mention it, I think they only did so if you bought it through microsoft? Overall seems like a good launch and game on console, and quite a hassle and lackluster showing on PC hahaha.
I say you ended up with the better deal

Actually they weren't clear with the offer. It's valid for any digital preorder from Microsoft or any etailer but it does not apply to physical copies. Again though, Amazon came with both Alan Wake games and like you said, the PC version is a total disaster so I definitely got the better deal plus it cost me 50 bucks with tax for three games since I have Prime so you can't really beat three games for 50, especially when you haven't played Alan Wake either.
-
Playing this on my Xbone.
I don't trust any game Win10-only right now ,especially when they're Windows Store only. And I think I made the right choice in not getting it for PC... -
I just finally finished the first Alan Wake recently after leaving it unfinished for a long time. It was a blast, great story. I'm looking forward to QB, glad people are saying good things about it.

Seeing how other people here are playing Alan Wake makes me want to finish it as well. Loved the story and setting, but somewhere 1/3 into the game I bailed on it because of Alan's irritating "lung cancer" sprinting.
American Nightmare was nice though. Liked it very much.Last edited: Apr 10, 2016VoodooChild, Ethrem and hmscott like this. -

Its nearly a week so i am worried.

I know they say to install the game to a SSD so as to avoid stuttering. Has anyone tried it with spinner drives running in RAID-0?

downloading it on PC while playing it on xbox one. i got a good deal even if it meant having to download 120gb of game files on my xbox one.

DX12 -WDDM2.0 / Win10 and XBone games on Windows - TL;DR - A huge joke and misfire !sasuke256 likes this. -
not sure if that's remedy's fault with their engine, UWP, or both?
just read the FAQ and they recommend 362.00 for nvidia...glad i did not update the drivers! -
Microsoft wants desperately all windows users on 10 and as we know DX12, now the WDDM2.0+DX12 is a must for now, since no DX12 game is out on exe's so remedy pre-planning was solely done with UWP / XB1 in mind and they just didn't care about the consequences or M$ didn't want them to or they are just lazy like rest of game devs...no SLI with WDDM2.0.
The mess made by M$ is too much, Gaming / OS / User control...I hope things settle else this is spinning out of control, Chaos !
Next is iirc the maxwell uses software shim to get DX12 while AMD has hardware GCN backing for real DX12 support but the irony is AMD cards don't even perform normally with the GOW....clusterf**k -
and all the more reason for mobile polaris to be compatible.
-
I remember a guy telling me here in the forum that it's okey, UWP isnt a big deal etc.. Wut ?
Man I tried to use a key from a friend who bought it on xbox one, a LONG download and then : open and closes instantly, looked in the internet ? no solution aside reinstalling windows entirely ! -
haha i like the alan wake and x-men references
the xbox one version was a pain to get it on a 3Mbit connection: took about 4 days to complete the download (of both the game and episode pack) due to just a crappy and unstable internet connection. Man, that was a gruelling 120gb download and i don't want to be doing that again any time soon.
i'm downloading the pc version now while i play it on xbox one.Last edited: Apr 13, 2016sasuke256 likes this. -
What's the real world pc feeling of this game? Is it worth getting? Or, is it a PASS?! Also, I would have to buy xbone version in order to get PC version?? There's no direct PC download???

There is if you purchase from the Windows store. -
game is good: needs patches.
I do like how they made it so that Alan Wake and Quantum Break are in the same universe.Last edited: Apr 14, 2016 -
Thanks, I'll wait for patches. Ummm, Alan Wake not great endorsement for me. I stopped playing after 4hrs. Stupid flashlight, and hated running around in dark forest. -
once the frame pacing issue is fixed i think it'll be a bit more playable.

They need to fix frame pacing, framerate cap, and resolution at least. Even if you play at 1080p, the game renders at 720 and then upscales.
Most of the other issues are due to the windows UWP thing. That should be fixed by microsoft on the next patch. -

How did you get the 970 to work with your AW18? And what happened to 980M SLI lol? -

I snagged a code for this from someone on reddit in exchange for a couple Xbox/Windows store gift cards - basically paid less than half the current asking price. For that I figured it was worth a go.

One of my 980m fried and was out of warranty. I didn't have/want to shell out another 700U$D plus for another 980m so I explored the external GPU avenue. I borrowed/traded for the desktop 970 from a friend and that's where I am right now. I made a thread in the AW18 thread detailing my steps with pics, and some bench marks. I should have traded for the Titan X. It worked BUT, I couldn't keep it. -

Only had a chance to play with this for about an hour. It's not a great PC port in the vein of recent Square Enix or even past Remedy games. And maybe it's because I'm using a high refresh rate monitor, but I'm finding the performance problems to be overblown. The game performs much better than I was expecting, and I'm enjoying it so far. I look forward to the patch that removes the film grain filter, though.

Not even rendering in native resolutions above 720p?

also i discovered that dxtory WILL WORK on UWP Windows 10 store games to view your fps in an overlay form but don't use it to record cos it really drops the fps.Ashtrix and Kade Storm like this. -
There's a 27gb title update that:
1. adds the ability to switch the render modes.
2. disable film grain
3. adds the quit game menu option.
with upscaling on i can run the game at 1080p30 on ultra but with it off i can do 1080p30 on a modified medium preset.
Here's some comparisions between upscaling on and off.
With upscaling off the edges are definitely sharper but the upscaling is nowhere near as bad as people claim it to be in my view at least.Last edited: Apr 30, 2016Kade Storm and saturnotaku like this. -

The patch seems to have fixed the performance problems when running at resolutions greater than 1080p. Pre-update, the game would be a slideshow at 2560x1440 and now it's absolutely playable, I daresay even smooth with the framerate lock off.
-
i honestly don't find the upscaled image as bad as people make out since i am playing it on a 17.3" display anyway.
YMMV -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Yeah I guess it makes sense on a smaller screen.
I tried temporal AA (or whatever it is called) in Siege on a 24" screen. Nope! Better lower graphics than look at that abomination! -

I find it looks a lot better with the film grain filter off, even with upscaled resolution.
-
it does and i do think that the film grain just exacerbated the issue even more. my comparision at 1080p shows how much the upscaling does and it's a near match to the full 1080p image.
seriously? there's only a slight blur but i don't think that will be blown out on a 24" monitor.Last edited: Apr 30, 2016 -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Temporal AA made picture too noisy, which for me was unacceptable.
Quantum Break coming to PC, but only Win10
