5870m is faster than any 555m. I'd say 5870m is roughly comparable to the 460m.

Just for the record, I have requested benchmark and detailed data on this laptop twice from Razer previously, and just a third time today, yet they have not responded AT ALL. Wonder if NotebookReview has requested a review sample. Would be good to get their normal suite of benchmarks (and then some) along with an unbiased and objective look at it.

The 5870M scores ~2200 on 3DMark 11 from personal experience, and about 9500 Vantage. The 460M is almost the same, but slightly slower.

I am certainly not insulting owners, and while I said it in a derogatory way I think most people agree, if you see a Clevo out in public you probably don't even notice it. It is just "a laptop", there is nothing special about it. You cannot get anymore generic than literally the generic manufacturer of laptops that actually makes the parts used in many big brand computers.

I was also specifically responding to a post that was comparing some $1400 Clevo to the Blade, which was roughly the most absurd thing I had ever heard. On paper they are somewhat similar, in real life no one is gonna mistake one for the other and they are not comparable. It is like comparing a Honda and a Mercedes, on paper they may be extremely similar, same engine size, same fuel economy, same seating capacity, but are you really gonna tell me that buying the Mercedes was wrong and stupid and I got totally ripped off for not going with the Honda? Nothing against Honda owners, I am one, but you should be able to see the point.

I would also point out that this is the Razer Blade thread. I am not going over to a Clevo thread and spraying my opinion to everyone over there while telling them all to come buy the Blade. However, if you come into this thread and insult the Blade while telling everyone to go buy a cheap generic laptop then you have opened yourself to the backlash. The people who would buy a Blade (like me) are not the people that buy whatever is cheapest.

It is true, it isn't a failing of the Blade, Razer has packed in one of the fastest 555m GPUs into the machine, it is just the specs of the 555m.

The same will almost certainly hold into the future, in 2 years the mobile performance GPU, say the 755m, will likely still be less powerful than a current 580m.

I like to use this chart for comparisons, I have found it to be very accurate.

I guess you are referring to my post. Was I somehow unfair to Razer Blade in my comparison? Did I not mention to the user who asked "if Razer Blade is worth it," that if he likes the design of a laptop, it can't be quantified in a monetary value? Did I not mention the difference in thickness and other features that come with Razer? What are you so mad about? Where do you see me saying that buying Razer Blade is somehow stupid? It is not stupid, but it's not for everyone. Just like Alienware, Mac, Clevo laptops are not for everyone because different people value different things.

However one thing is true. Performance is a very objective figure that can be calculated and measured. Aesthetics are subjective and everyone gets to decide their true worth on a personal scale. Now you can calm down, I don't in any way support bashing of Razer Blade. I'm personally eager to learn more about it and find the touchscreen on it very intriguing as a proof of concept.

I still think Razer should make an add-on USB device nearly identical to the pad on the Blade and sell that. I'm sure a $200 device like that would sell like hotcakes. I've always wanted something like that, especially for a home made flight simulator or just a touch screen to manage my WHS or whatever.

Although I just realized Razer should consider the AMD Trinity if they ever decide to update this thing. Right now just the 35W APU IGP is shaping up to have ~ 1200 3DMark11 and 4500 3DMark Vantage scores. Shave off the cost of Intel and nVidia with comparable performance. Could probably drop the cost $500 alone just with that. Why have both a CPU and GPU when you can do both in the CPU for same performance?

I agree. But,many many people will find this to be a good thing. I am not interested in advertising to the world that i have a machine worth thousands of dollars. Rather them see my not so special "laptop" and target someone else to mug.

Be careful out there with your new toy and enjoy!

I can certainly understand this, I know lots of people that get the generic laptops solely because they are generic, and they can use them at work or whatever without them being an obvious gaming computer. Nothing wrong with it, people should buy the laptop that fits them, and people should not judge others based on their preference.

My post was mainly just responding to all the people calling the Blade a rip-off without considering anything but the raw technical specifications. A laptop is just so much more than the tech specs, and it sounds like the Blade delivers on its price tag with excellent quality, support, and features.

Ellatan I also did not mean to insult you, I didn't read your post very carefully, it just matched a mold I have seen several times in the last few pages of this thread, with people comparing any random laptop with a 555m to the Blade, when they are not at all comparable. You actually present both sides, but it wasn't really your post, it was just the trend of people comparing random similarly specced laptops while trying to insult the Blade.

The way I see it is that you pay a premium for a combination of touchscreen, average hardware, sleek and beautiful design where this laptop is the thinnest 17" you can find, and a "exclusive" brand (like apple).
They couldn`t obviously push in a faster GPU than the 555M in to that superthin chassis. I`m not fully updated about this laptop but that touchscreen, isn`t it only useful for RPGs like Warcraft etc? If so, then I guess the 555M does the job

I guess this sort of laptop is for a specific niche, hardcore gamers not included. Kinda like an Wii in the console market

Can we not get over the fact that some people will buy a product because it looks nice?

I know it seems absurd to the most practical of us, but some people enjoy owning pretty things, even if a more modest item can provide comparable performance. I don't fault a person for following their eyes.

The 5870M has an advantage of 40 percent, easily.

The 555M isn't faster than the GTX 260M.

Your analogy with cars is not very accurate because a mercedes is literally much more than a car aesthetics. It is not just a bodywork. Not to mention aesthetics are 100% subjective and vary from person to person. What you value at a thousand dollars of aesthetics, is nor the same for every single person. If you think its worth it, fine, go ahead, no one is stopping you. If you want to feel more accurate with your car analogy, they literally took a honda and pimped it out custom made with a unique aesthetic. People cry yelling "its still just a honda" while others want it for the cool new look and other pimping items it got. The Blade has the specs to work, but it is all about the new features, not the base specs.

I am not here to insult any person, and if you decide to go for the blade, alright you are more than free to do so. No one is pointing a gun nor kittens being killed due to people buying it.

As for Quadzilla. You can't take away the price factor. It is something that means the blade too. It's part of its value. I can easily tell you take away the looks and you have one generic PC. That would be a flawed point because the blade is a combination it's aesthetics and the specs and price. It's a single item with a value worth in many factors. Hence why there is a varied opinion and not based on its specs at all.

John. Don't stop posting because there is negativity surrounding the machine. If you don't care about the negative points, then just ignore them since they never were of concern to you. Any brand always has haters. I can't tell you how many people hate on even my MSI both for aesthetics and many other things including mere reputation.

Does that make me mad and not want to post? Nope, because I already know what I got and you should too. Enjoy your machine and keep feeding those that want more information. It's fine to praise the looks and design as well as the new lcd and buttons. Try to keep yourself impartial, and remember that there is always room for improvement. I am 100% certain, with the info given by john, that the cooling is more than sufficient for a stronger GPU. Specially since the design itself is a giant heatsink.

I just want to reiterate that I am not attacking anyone here. Let's stick to discussions and not fights. I am not closed minded enough to NOT see why people would buy it. Don't be close minded enough to NOT understand why people would turn away.

Now let's stick to the important things. The difference of the blade. Its extras. The switchblade UI. People already know fairly accurate its performance, so lets talk about the new ideas brought instead.

They never indicated quantities. My guess, 100. Seriously. You don't see hoards of owners, or even review units out anywhere. If it had been several thousand one would expect more than one person to pipe in that they own it here at these forums.

    True +1.

I wouldn't even know what to do with one of these if I received it for free. I mean I'd obviously do a review on it, but it'd probably end up in a closet or box after that.

I can't imagine it playing any newish games (even high demanding 2-3 yr old games) at 60fps in 1080p (any less than 1080p on a 17" screen is a joke) even on medium settings. It might be thin, but it's still takes up a good amount of space.

I'm going to guess that they're hesitant to provide review units, because a suite of gaming benchmarks run at its native 1080p would paint the machine in a less than stellar light.

A site like Anandtech would no doubt link back to their in depth M17x review, and provide enough head to head (6990M vs 555M) graphs to slow a lot of their momentum.

    It's a smart decision.

That's what I was thinking. At least take a photo of the box and invoice to show some evidence of ownership.

Reminds me of the Asus K53TA when it was at Best Buy for $450. They were selling like hotcakes. So some companies bought them then listed them for like $1000. they clearly didn't understand the reason for the sale. It's not that they were the K53TA, it's the specs for $450 were excellent. $550 ok, $600 expected, anything more, forget it, there's better options.

I read that it stated 1.5-2 hours WITH GAMING. I find that hard to believe considering it has a 60WHr cell.

" Razer isn’t advertising battery life on the Blade because it isn’t that great, but at CES I was told 1.5-2 hours of heavy gaming per charge."

I knew they were expensive but according that link you just posted - "The MacBook Pro 17″ can be purchased anywhere from $2,500-$4,100". This has got to be wrong right..? and I thought people were being silly buying the blade at that price. Now i see the market razer is targeting.. :/

Edit: holy cr@p, it does really start at 2500.. atleast on Apple USA's site..

Razer is in the business of peripherals, not PC's, so not sure why they decided to shoot for a "gaming" Mac competing product. An add-on seems like a lot more sense.

Well it is possible to game on battery, at least with other machines. The M14x can game on battery full power for maybe an hour. I can game full power on battery with my HP DV6z, over two hours but I have a 9-cell 100WHr battery. With IGP over three hours, but the Intel HD 3000 in the Blade isn't quite the powerhouse integrated graphics chip.

Emphasis mine. That's another unknown aspect of this product. OK, Razer pushed out a couple updates for the Switchblade UI. Can you, or anyone else out there, tell me what the warranty is on the Blade? I scoured the product page and minisite and came up empty. Is it 1 year parts and labor? Is it 1 year parts lifetime labor? Any accidental damage protection? How is the support going to be when something goes wrong?

    "excellent quality, support, and features"...

Quality: I don't see any evidence of any of that. Hard to judge quality until there's been enough samples out there to verify and validate.

Support: As saturnotaku states no info on warranty or accidental or history of support from a full laptop that Razer has no history with

Features: On paper they offer their Razer UI, and a slim chassis. That's about all I can see that's added features.

At least when going with a dual-core CPU, Razer chose the fastest one out there. Also, a standard matte screen and 256 GB SSD are nothing to shake a stick at.

Another thing I noticed, though, in looking at the spec chart - it says the wireless supports 802.11 b/g/n but not 802.11a. I hope that's incorrect, as having 5 GHz support is something that should be standard here.

OK. Didn't know exactly what card they were using. That information should really be added.

True, but they aren't really added features, but a standard upgrade. Matte and SSD are nice to add, but by no means is it a requisite. Half the users would probably prefer glossy, and SSD should be standard in any premium laptop. Razer only added the SSD after severe criticism that it wasn't added in the first place (had a link that had Razer rep stating that, can't find it atm). And at current HDD pricing, the move to the LiteOn can't have been much of a price bump.

That information can be found on Razer's website. Look at the driver for the wifi card, the model number is stated there.

Bottom line is that you shouldn't have to dig through the website to find this information. It should all be listed up front in the product specifications.

It's not as if most computer manufacturers tell you what brand your RAM is/what model your WLAN card is/what model your screen is etc etc

Seriously guys. Its pretty useless to go preachin` that the Razor is average and that is expensive bla bla bla. The people here have already had this discussion with you and they feel like they are getting attacked in this thread. I agree with them. Everyone have said their opinion about Razor vs other gaming laptops and I think pretty much everyone can agree that hardware wise it is not the best nor is it the worst. No point in beating a dead horse. I think we should let the people who are infact interested in this laptop use this thread as a "Razor owners" thread without getting all these negative remarks from other people.

It is like Apple. We all know they are expensive as hell, we all know you get average hardware, and we all know that people pay a premium for the brand. I guess we all have tried convincing the appleheads that they pay too much etc, but as you may have noticed, the world is filled with apple fans (literally!) so the convincing tactic is pretty much useless. Just deal with the fact that people can do whatever they want with their money. And that is a very good thing :)
