That Zepto looks nice until you get to the battery:

Looks like that 512MB RAM NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT really sucks the life out of the battery. I expect realistic battery time to be about half that. :(

Zepto reviews say realistically you can get 3 1/2 hours out of the 12 cell, so that's not bad at all. With the 6 cell, it's less than 2, which puts it on par with the G1s.

    Omg...

Unless Dell with their m1330 decides to release something better than that gay 8400M GS that they are going to release right now..

Im going to say bye bye to m1330 !

Well, considering that the 8400mGS would be by far the most powerful card ever released on a notebook that size, I fail to see why you would be disappointed. There are no better alternatives to consider.

I was hoping that the refresh on the next thin/light XPS that dell release would have something more decent than a GS, i was kinda hoping for at least GT. The disappointment comes when they increase the size from a 12.1 inch notebook to a 13.3 inch notebook, and only improve it so much (GPU wise, the rest of the improvements are great).

Anyway,in my opinion, the znote 6224w has made the dell m1330 look so bad.. in terms of investment. I would get znote 6224w by august , if theres no improvement from dell's side.

like Bravefire said.. what's wrong in having 8400GT in this baby's guts ? :D
some manufacturer has to be the first to do it in 13" lappies !
in other words it's sad we cannot buy Zepto in US :(

No manufacturer will be the first to do in a 13" lappie, at least not until the 65nm die shrink. The 8400mGT is as fast and as hot as a go7600, and it is not physically possible to fit that in anything smaller than a 14.1" chassis. And as for increasing the screen size on the M1210 to M1330, that's true, but if you add the dimensions up you'll see the new M1330 is actually a smaller chassis then the old M1210.

No. The lid dimensions are practically the same (as the M1210 was big enough for a 13.3" screen) and it's thinner overall.

As odin said, the M1210 was large enough to accomodate a 13.3" screen, but Dell decided to try to brand it an "ultraportable" by featuring a 12.1" screen. Of course, with a weight of 5 pounds and a thickness of 1.5", the M1210 could hardly be called "ultraportable."

The M1330 is also not ultraportable, but it is much more portable than the M1210 because it is thinner. Much thinner.

Actually you can get Zepto lappys from their international site Zepto.com. There is even a review here on NBR of the Zepto 6214W model where the reviewer is from Canada.

hmmm but still the people generally look at a notebook by its physical size.. rather than the chassis size. And i did draw out the outline of both the M1210 and M1330 (length X breath) on a A3, and the m1330 is about 1 inch wider and longer..

Just a while ago i was so sure i wanted to get a dell m1330.

but now im pretty confused.. about whether to get a zepto 6224w or dell m1330 by late july :(

    Oh well..

I'd definitely go with the 6224w, but that's because I care more about power than portability. If you want to compare something, trace out both the 6224W and the M1330 on the same page, and then consider how much thicker and heavier the Znote is.

Which, the M1330? Of course it was a mistake. I'd bet good money that their will be no sub 14.1" notebook with a 8400mGT or higher prior to the 65nm die shrink, which is ETA this winter.

The new Vaio CR was launched this morning. So the guys from Sony practically screwed any chance for us to see a 8400GT in the new SZ refresh to come ! :(
I mean if a 14" has only the X3100, then what expectations can we have for 13" ?

Is the Zepto then better than the F8? The configure option doesn't work for me and can't see how much can it be improved. For what I understand, the Zepto is one of the best and is already available.

    Is Zepto a good manufacturer?

But if all we can expect about the F8 is that it could be quite the same powerful as the Zepto is, I don't think I'd wait till August.

... that's unless someone says that Zepto is not a good manufacturer, because I know Asus very well but I never heard about Zepto before.

click on the green link in my signature and see for yourself. the 1330 will only have a 8400GS card and 13" screen. I'm not sure if they will put the same card in a 12" refresh.. maybe a 8400G with 64Mb thou..

Just to bump this tread up a bit :p

In bottom of this site got some info about upcoming? asus 14,1" V2S

    http://article.pchome.net/content-378272.html

What I can get out of it is: 8600M GS... I have to say that im maybe a bit disapointed if it comes out with GS, since 14" Zepto is coming with GT. If Zepto can/will put GT in 14", I kind of hoped asus would do same :)

Well, still looking forward to V2S (if thats how they gonna call it), hopefully my dream latop when it finally comes out! :)

Well, the Asus F8 should have better performance than that, which makes sense as it's a gaming laptop rather than a business laptop like the V2S.bbb

After Zepto's 6224W model this model and the F8 both seem to be the 2nd place.
Anyway, is there an English button on that page because otherwise I can only see the image of it but not any readable text :(

Thats true, just cant stop dreaming I guess.

Im in market for a new notebook with 13,3" -14,1" screen and some gaming abilities.. And really like the look of V2 so.. Im most likely going to buy asus, its just that which model, and build quality of V2 should be better than F8 anyway.

Yeah, the F8 is supposedly a 14.1" version of the G1 series, so it won't have the same build quality of the V series, though it should have more multimedia features.

I'm buying my laptop soon, and I've narrowed my list down to these thin and light models...

    Asus F8s(14.1" ATI x2600)
    Asus V2s(14.1" nV 8600 GS)
    Asus S37s(13.3" nV 8400 G)
    Compal IFT00(14.1" 8400 GS?)
    Sony SZ(13.3" 8400 GT?)
Dell XPS M1330(13.3" nV 8400 GS)
    Lenovo T61p(14.1" nV Quadro 570M)

What I'm really trying to figure out is the battery life I can get out of these guys--what size cartridges are available, any modular bay-hot swappable extra battery available, you get the idea... I've listed their screen size and gfx cards because I know these affect their battery life as well.

The SZ has an 8400mG I believe, and the IFT00 has a decent shot at an 8400mGT/8600mGS.
For battery life, your best bet is the SZ and the S37s, followed by the IFT00 and the M1330. I'm not sure what the new T61p will get, as I don't know what kind of watt-hours they're offering in their batteries.

Yeah, it seems like this thread is misnamed. I seriously doubt we'll ever see a 13" laptop with a 8400gt in this generation of cards. The only actual candidates are 14.1" lappies.

I might be wrong but.. 8400M GT is more or less same as Go 7600, and I dont think there are/were any 13,3" with 7600. So I also doubt that we'll see any 13,3" with better GPU than 8400M GS, which actually is not bad card afterall.

Im personally waiting for final specs for XPS M1330 and Sony SZ Santa Rosa Refresh.. Prolly going with xps m1330 if price is reasonable.

When are they gonna release a 13" with a 8700GT?

Okay, hey, cool, I'm kidding. I know that's never going to happen . . .

Just a bid sad can't find a 14.1" with at least 8400GT in Thailand/Singapore at the moment. Was going to get a new laptop for 2nd year university, and my semester started at the beginning of this month (June) . . .

The guys at Pantip never wanted to sell me the laptop I wanted. All Acer and Toshiba fan boys.... I always ended up buying over seas. Acer and Asus had many models in Bangkok that I never found anywhere else. All pretty cheap but never with a good graphics card.

    Hi everyone,

So based on this list.. the best 14" laptop in terms of gaming over weight/size is the Zepto. Does anyone know if we were to buy the Zepto from the international website.. what kind of warranty coverage do we get being in the US? Does anyone have this laptop and have any gaming benchmarks? I'm considering this laptop, the M1330, and the upcoming ASUS F8s for my next laptop (a gaming thin and light laptop). Thanks in advance for anyone's help.
