Not really, I'd probably take an HD2600 in a 14" laptop over a 8600GT. The HD2600 lies somewhere in between the performance of an 8600GS and an 8600GT, but it's a 65nm card so it produces less heat and takes less power.
-
to each his / her own i guess.
I'd take the HD2600XT over the 8600 GT...but that's just based on pure speculation...I'll need benchmarks to help me decide as well as real world applications
-
For power, yeah, the HD2600XT will beat the 8600GT, however I'd doubt that will be seen in a 14.1" for a while yet. The HD2600 will still be comparable to the 8600GT (with any luck), not a stripped down card like the 8600GS. And since it's smaller and more efficient, it should be a good option for a fairly mobile gaming machine.

If you live in Asia. Benq s41 is 14 inch with 8600gs also with HDMI output. the listing price is only around $1350
-
thanks. I've updated the list
-
Yeah, the BenQ Joybook series is nice, but it's even harder to get in the U.S. than the Zepto Znotes. Also, does anyone know if LG has updated their 14.1" line?
-
I am thinking about buying the BenQ S41 in Taiwan since it has 8600 gs and HDMI output with only $1350.. but worry about the quality and service support even thou they have 1 year global warrenty. Anybody know how reliable BenQ is for their notebook?
-
don't know notebook wise, but the other products they build are pretty solid, so i'd assume the same with their notebook line
but that's just a guess / assumption -
Any recent word on when any of these 14.1"s will be avaiable for Pre-order in the US?
-
The closest one to being released is the Compal, which shouldn't be more than a month or so. Not even a preliminary word on any of the others, I don't think.
Also, Jaymz, you need to change it to the "Compal IF T00," and it's now been confirmed that the U.S. model will be 8400mGS. -
Is there a significant difference performance wise between the 128mb Models found in the 1330 and the 256 in the IFT00?
Or will it still be pretty low-end for any gaming -
It won't be low-end, it will be mid-range. It's about %50 better than the Go7400, which was a decent mid-range card. The 8400mGS should handle all current games at medium settings, and newer games at low settings.
And the 128mb should perform roughly equivalently to the 256mb model, with less overclocking abilities. -
Hmm people got me believing the 8400gs was a much worse performing card.
I was considering the M1330 but was scared off by the slow GPU.
This may be silly, but one game I'm really waiting for is Hellgate: London.
How would a 8400GS handle a game like that? -
I'm too waiting for that game, and i already ordered my m1330, im pretty confident you can play that game at mid range setting. At least thats what i believe, there was a post from hellgate guru from bill roper that they will make a wider range of video setting (like WoW) for ppl with less powerful computers to play HG:L. But still to a certain extend, its still a risk, as we don't know the full req for HG:L.
-
Yea if I can run that game on medium settings I'd be more than pleased. I think from what I've read recently the 8400gs will fit my needs just fine.
-
Well, it's more or less confirmed now that the Asus F8 will be available in two flavors: the F8sa with ATI HD2600 and the F8sv with nVidia 8600mGT. This makes it the most powerful thin and light notebook that's going to be released in North America.
-
you kiddin me right ? 8600GT ? where did you see any info about it?
-
In the Asus F8 thread.
