Have you seen a female Blood Elf!!
Starships are very kewl, yet in Bridge Commander (which I hated) they made them so unplayable, that it hurt! All I ask for is an intuitive easy to use interface. Oh that and my own female blood elf ensign :p

I have all female Bridge Officers. You can pick this and what race they are as well. I want the ability to rename them for Hilarious hijinx but I don't think that is in yet. Starfleet Dental is up to 300 members in game. They all seem to be happy with the game. The private forums are on fire. Vulcans sort of look like blood elves I guess.

New patch is up. Anyone that might have stop playing need to check it out as it contains a lot of improvement and bug fixes.

Anyone who had stopped playing, patch up your client and try again. New patch fixed many many things, it was nearly 800MB. Loadscreens are now finished, game is more polished, GUI has been redone in most areas. There still are bugs, but it has gotten much better.

Also part of that huge patch was patches to the gaming engine - it's much better and less of a hog. Nvidia's newest drivers in conjunction with the new game patch fixed the ATI and Nvidia stuttering, etc. Things are really looking up. According to MMORPG.com and CBS investor info CBS gave another $10 million to Cryptic. I think it's safe to say STO is going no where, and with CBS fully backing this up (thanks to the near billion profit Star Trek XI brought, and the 2 new movies coming out, and possible live series) things are bound to be great.

It's sad though. Stargate Worlds is now on hold as CME and Firesky are about bankrupt and so fare in debt that they made an FPS game to try and make funds for their MMO development. With STO and Bioware's new Star Wars mmo I don't think we'll see a SGW any time soon. I mean come on.. Bioware is like blizzard and they don't release bad games.

And then offer a 4 day headstart for pre-order folk before the official 'live' date.

^Agreed on the 'boring' for the most part. EVE is still the better space game even though there's no planetside component. I'm still looking forward to playing at least the first month when I get my CE pre-order. Server has dropped quite a bit over the weekend. Unfortunate since this is the last time we can play now until launch/pre-launch.

Does STO even support SLI or Crossfire?

$240 for lifetime membership is tempting but...
    1. Cryptic is a scary investment (not Activision or EA)
    2. Just got a beat key yesterday - not much time to evaluate it
    3. Quite a few times I have not been able to access my cryptic accounts due to server down

Eve is like a calculus course for me. I hate it.

Borg in beta are too easy. Fighting them should be suicide IMO.

Don't think of EVE as Calculus. Think of it as a giant Excel spreadsheet with a pretty graphics wrapper. It's only complicated for the first year or two. It gets much easier later on. ;)

Digital delux edition through Steam, life time subscriber, sending a friends to Del Taco for the free Shuttle pet and going to haunt GameStop for the TOS Enterprise. About the only other game I would go so nuts for would be a Babylon 5 game (played both the IFH and Freespace mod).

I'm with RangerXML on this one. I have the collector's edition pre-ordered and a lifetime sub ready to go. I never realized how much of a fan I was until I started follow the development of the game, plus it has a lifetime sub which in my opinion more MMOs need to offer.

As for thoughts on the game so far, I've only be able to play a little bit of it due to video card issues, but what little bit I have played is great. The ground combat is fun and feels a lot more "active" then most MMO combat (although I admit, I had a short taste and am somewhat biased). The ship combat is killer, I love the way the controls work and how you have to turn your ship to be able to hit your target with different weapon arrays.

Hopefully the PVP will be fun, and I can see the game being very promising a few years down the line. I take it as a good sign that Cryptic has been patching the hell out of the thing during the Beta, and they're getting a good taste of what a popular IP will do to their server too. If anyone is up for forming a NBR fleet let me know.

I can't possibly imagine committing to a lifetime sub for a game that isn't even finished yet and that you haven't played for at least a month.

Big Trek fan here ... and I must say that the game definitely feels unfinished, quite repetitive and lacking in puzzle solving aspects or choice making that would have made the game more ... engaging.

Truth be told though, I am enjoying myself even with this (jt's an ok way to pass the time sometimes), but until I see evidence of something more ... substaintal, I do not think I will be buying/paying for the game.

The patches have fixed numerous bugs and introduced some good aspects, but Cryptic still has a long way to go.
The fact the game is unfinished and rushed out is for the most part Atari's fault (although Cryptic should have been able to adapt in whichever fashion and bring more content from the get go into the game).
Right now it feels a bit ... limited.

    But time will tell.
I keep an open mind about this one though, so I'll just have to wait and see what Cryptic will do.
Until then, I'll simply play out the beta until it closes.

Overall its a unique game with lots of potential, a Universe full of potential. I ony played the first week of beta due to gpu overheating. I have to wait for my new m17x in order to play it.

The game is missing somthing, it feels almost dull after a while. It took me a while to figure out what it needs. It needs moar character, epic exciting "in the moment" type star trek missions/combat, also needs more meaning after acomplishing a mission.

I'm getting bored. Space combat is getting repetitive, and ground combat was tedious from the start. I really just want to get the stupid Klingons killed and beam back up.

Also, it's not an MMO. The entire game is instanced.

Gotta say the big closing event was a bit of a let down with the klingons. I was at Earth starbase and we were ready. Klingons showed up one to three at a time. To their complete annihilations, the only decent battles I could find was at DS9 where the skilled klingons with the good ships showed up for awhile.

Borg was surprising at first, seeing their huge cubes in sector space had me expecting utter doom. Got back to earth base and beamed to the station to find an all out war between the drones and the federation. Guess I was missing something, after the endless fights and deaths for 30 minutes or so no real progress had been made.

Oh well, hopefully they will fix how the battles work. Seems like the klingons were hopelessly outnumbered in almost every system including parts of the nuetral zone.

It wasn't a Klingon invasion-- those were just Klingon players invading because they thought there was supposed to be an invasion. Scuttlebutt was wrong!

The closing event was a Borg invasion, and I'm pretty sure they were meant to be undefeatable.

Hey guys for those of you running this game on your laptop ( If any) what spec is your system and what settings were you able to run the game at.

I am looking to buy a laptop soon and this is one of the games I will want to play as well as ( C&C4, SC2 any other good RTS games). I don't play FPS so I figure I might not need the best mobile GPU in the world but having said that the G73 does look good. I was hoping I might be able to get something with an ATI 5730 or a GTS 360M and run these games at full settings. I Figure I should be right with SC2 but wasn't sure about this game and still don't know about C&C4

    Thanks guys

It was pretty funny, people were counting down the great invasion monitoring the sectors. First klingon sightings and the Earth fleet was "OMG here they come". Only 6 ships in total showed up and before I could even get a target on them they were destroyed.

Oh well, still looking forward to headstart on Friday (thats when headstart is right?). I saved alot of the open beta content so it would all be new when I played full time.

You obviously missed the invasion of Tribbles on the Earth starbase. Loads fun reminiscent of the Flood in Halo. Hordes of them lead to our doom. They just kept pouring out of every crevice.

Cool thanks! that gives me a good idea of what it can and can't handle. Definately thinking it is worth speding a bit of extra cash over a ATI 5730 ( class 2 card) and getting a class one card to play it on high settings. Xarthos has mentioned he can run it well but he has a pretty good GPU.

Its not very demanding on the hardware truthfully. The system Reqs are high so that they don't have to support old machines.

I play on a Macbook Pro.. C2D 2.53ghz, 4gb ram, 9600GT... and it runs great.

I even made an "unofficial" Mac version using Wine, and it runs decent enough to not have to boot into Windows.

I think if you buy any decent "gaming" laptop right now, it'll run ok

There is a 58MB update right now if you log in and the fun starts tomorrow at 10am PST (CA)/ 6pm GMT (UK). The beta was available to download the night before so I'm not sure when you can update the client to the final version. Looks like life timers are the only ones that are gonna get to play with the big toys before Tuesday, Liberated Borg, so that looks like its gonna be fun.

I played all weekend with Goons. We have bugged the 250 fleet limit because we have so many people we still need to add and we hit the cap in 1 day. Klingon guild is Nerds of Prey. We have also filled that one as well. I'm lieutenant Commander 4 at the moment. Not the highest person on the server but well ahead of most. We had a Goon dance party on Risa and hit the Time Guardian for some into the past action with the USS ENTERPRISE. Since I was basically snowed in anyway it was a perfect weekend for the headstart.

Well I broke down and did it! I am not sure but I think Q had something to do with it  My wife and I wnet to Lowes to buy a sink and I ran into an old friend that I have not seen in months and he told me that he has been playing the open beta of STO and that he enjoyed it and was taking a break from WoW! Then after I dropped my wife off at her office and headed over to the library to do some school work, studying and such. However on my way, the car took a left turn instead of a right turn and ended up parking in front of a Game Stop store. The next thing I know I am not only purchasing Star Trek Online, but the COLLECTOR'S EDITION!! Damn you Q!!

I have yet to install it but will do so later today. I am looking forward to playing it tonight, any pointers?
