I didn't have any issues at all last night. They are struggling with the interest because they have never had an mmo this big. It will take a few hiccups to get it right but I have had several beta days and head start days that have been excellent play time.

I still dont understand why this game is a Multiplayer game... lol

I cancelled my pre-order after a dismally dissapointing beta. Maybe if they fix the game, and make it less repetative, instanced/boring and fix pvp to actually be worthwhile, and make it more than a 50 person game server (instances everywhere) and add more star treky things like xploration, planet exploration, diplomacy etc I will come back.

atm game is only good if your a big star trek fan. For everyone that says this is a big MMO, im sorry its not even an MMO, its a single player with maximum 50 player intsances... thats not a BIG MMO lol... Wouldve been better as SP game with hosted or dedicated match making servers max 50 players, its bascially what it is now.

/sigh back to eve.... and I really wanted this to be my new game!! DARN!

I agree with you Garandhero. I wish I had the passion like some of these guys like xarthos do. I found the beta boring and repetative as well. Spaceship battles were just a bunch of pew pew pew lasers and photon torpedos that looked like glitter in space. It wasn't as intense or dramatic as I had hoped for. Maybe I just didn't get the controls, but I found ground combat annoying. I always had trouble targeting to dude I wanted to.

But maybe with time I'll give it another shot. I'd much rather have a KotOR type Star Trek RPG than an MMO any day.

I am enjoying it, even though I have to play in short bursts due to a bad video card ATM (to lazy to dig out the old one for a quick fix). I've only played 2-3 hours, but it has a lot of potential in my opinion but what's holding me back from enjoying it more is having a group to play with.

In most MMOs you see other people constantly and can help out and start chatting and this can lead to a group being formed or an invite. So far, no one I have run into will either talk, or if they communicate they'll run off after the mission we're on is done. I'm trying to get my friends into it, but of course I get the excuse that The Old Republic is coming out next year, or they don't want to pay for another MMO which I point out that they snoozed and lost with the lifetime. :p

Once my video card is fixed up I'll either jump into one of the advertised fleets, bribe my way into a command rank in Dental or try my hand at making a fleet. Oh boy, guild politics all over again! :D

My pre-order CE arrives tomorrow. I'll likely not bother playing STO until I see where the much need updates and content plans are headed.

Anyone that has subbed since launch (post open beta) experiencing login queues and/or server kicks? I picked up the CE despite my concerns during CB/OB but am hesitant to register the first 30 days due to what I'm reading in the STO forums.

From what I've gathered, it's heavily dependent on your location. It seems the EU peeps have it the worst. I'm in Seattle so it's trivial for me to hit the servers in the San Jose/Bay Area. I'm guessing you're in Calgary so my bet is you'll probably be fine...

I personally haven't even experienced the login queues. Maybe a server kick once every 10-12 hours of play time but I'm usually able to log right back in as long as it's outside a 3am-5am maintenance window but they haven't done one for a few days now.

    Cheers,
    Kermee

I'm getting tired of it. It really isn't an MMO. It contains no persistent zones, no exploration, and like one review said it does make space feel claustrophobic. The only good thing is space combat.

Yeah, I got bored in the beta even pretty quick. Glad I had that chance. I'm sure they'll develop it more, but I don't see it having longevity as it stands.

Patch notes released. Almost Admiral so this is great news for me. :D

    The Borg Return

Level 43+ Federation players now have access to missions versus the Borg. Talk to Admiral Quinn and use the transwarp conduit in the Risa to rendezvous at the Fleet Staging area to begin.

    These missions include:
    - 3 new Borg related episodes
    - Repeatable Star Cluster mission against Borg threats
    - Deep Space encounters with Patrolling Borg fleets
    - A Daily Star Cluster mission which grants Marks of Exploration for use at an exclusive store in the Staging Fleet to gear up for upcoming Raidisode content.

In addition, level 43+ Klingon players now have access to repeatable Borg related Klingon Defense missions.

Level 43+ players of both factions also gain access to Daily PVP missions which grant Marks of Honor which can be redeemed for exclusive top end gear at stores on K7/Ganalda respectively.

This update sets the stage for additional Borg conflicts which will be released in coming weeks.

    Now on to Release Notes

    General

    * The pre-order bonus Borg Bridge Officers should now display their traits. They were always there, but they were not visible.
    * You no longer receive an error message when clicking the "Call for Help" button after dying when you are not on a team.
    * Added the ability to filter the types of PVP Queues displayed when looking up what Queus are available.
    * Updated instructions given during game play on how to assign Bridge Officers
    * Closing the mail window no longer prevent you from interacting with objects and contacts until you walk away from the mailbox.
    * We've improved framerate when viewing the Skills window and reduced the lag when decreasing the rank of a skill.
    * The Character Rename button should now work properly

    Missions

    * Borg missions are now available to Fed players when they arrive in the Borg Sector
    * New Daily missions are available for level 43+ players that offer Marks as rewards which can be used in special stores in the Staging Fleet, K7 and Ganalda. To to your remote contacts for details.
    * Added repeatable Star Cluster and Deepspace hunting missions versus the Borg for both Fed and Klingon players
    * Updated the Klingon Player introductory mission progression to help get players to Ganalda
    * Federation PvP missions have been added
    * Updated Miral Paris' following/combat AI on Regulus IV ground to be more robust;
    * Fixed some bugs in the Klingon daily PVP missions - players with ground objectives (kill X captains on ground) might not have seen this complete if they were in an indoor PvP map
    * Fixed some text bugs with the Klingon daily PvP missions
    * Fixed the number of Klingon PvP missions required at each rank to be 3 per rank
    * Made all repeatable Star Cluster missions have a 30 minute cooldown from start of mission instead of from turn in.
    * Made all repeatable Deep Space Encounter missions have a 30 minute cooldown from start of mission.

    Powers and Skills

    * The ability to skill up captaining the Negh'Var is now available in Klingon skill trees.
    * Some space weapons tooltips were reporting 5% chance, when the chance was actually 2.5%.
    * Disruptor damage resistance proc now works correctly
    * Tri-cobalt mines dropped correctly now
    * Mines only slot in aft weapon slots as design intended
    * The primary explosion from abandon ship no longer affects friendly targets. The resulting delayed warp core breach will still affect friendly targets.
    * Field Logistics is now correctly listed as an Admiral skill
    * The Engineering ability Aceton Field had a bug that caused it to appear as a ground power on Bridge Officers even though it's a space power.

    UI

    * Added a missin icon for the Anesthesine gas applied power.
    * Corrected a bad description on one of the Tribbles.
    * Corrected a bad display name on the Pre-order Automated Defense Turret.
    * Added the missing icon for Vulcan "Logical" trait.
    * Updated message text when renaming characters to be clearer
    * Added a Crew button to the inventory window that opens your status assignment window
    * Updated the the Cancel and OK buttons
    * Rearranged elements of the Ship customization window to match the layout of the character customization window.
    * Updated the headshot displayed for a saved costume
    * Added proper indentation to objectives displayed in the mission journal.
    * Spending skillpoints on your captain, then attempting to spend skillpoints on a bridge officer without first hitting accept will no longer trigger an error message to be displayed.
    * Upon deleting a Klingon character, if the next character in character selection was a FED, the UI no longer remains in the red-Klingon scheme.
    * Updated the power tray sensitivity so that you must drag an element completely off the tray in order to remove an item. This prevents losing an item when trying to move it to another slot and dropping it accidentally.
    * Add lots of additional information to the character selection screen.
    * Purchase and Cancel buttons are now always available when customizing a costume.

    Visual and Sound FX

    * Hooked up correct beam up fx for some critter groups
    * Fixed Plasma sniper rifles so that the laser sight no longer comes out of the player's foot
    * Adjusted shields on Borg ships that were sticking out strangely

Wow. Some nice bug fixes in there. I see at least 10 of them that were really annoying me that have been fixed.

I'm almost to Captain so I'm thinking RA is at least a week away for me at the way I'm playing. Borg content looks great =)

My friend told me he enjoyed the game in Beta and so I bought it last week and then I found out from his daughter that He is going to back to playing WoW becuase STO is boring, gee thanks for making me waste my money, lol.

Oh and by the way, when he went to logon to his WoW account, he found out that he was banned, both accounts so he lost like 6 lvl 80 toons!! He should know better than to mess with Q like that!!

LOL. I was an early WoW player that maybe lasted about 4 months (I played immediately at launch). So for me to compare WoW to STO would probably be heavily biased since it's been many years. WoW ended up feeling like a grind to me so I ended up quitting. So far, STO has kept my interest but if it ends up feeling like I'm "grinding" again...

Sorry, but I'm not Korean ;) So are you still playing STO or already "shelved" it then?

--Re: Friend's WoW. Holy smokes! Banned? Hope he gets it resolved!

    Cheers,
    Kermee

I have not played it yet as I have been quite busy. However I do intend to give it a try this weekend, as you might also wanna try WoW again. It is a much better game that it was in 2005. The graphics and added content are "miles" better and the grinding has been eased so you can level up in a tenth of the time now to 80 than you could to 60 back then.

It is weird how he got banned as he traded for gold or bought some and was off for 5 months and when he came back he found out that was why he was banned. Perhaps he bragged to someone in game about it, cause I have known allot of people that I have purchased gold and never ever got banned.

I still have yet to play Star Trek Online because it cannot play until I upgrade my video card drivers. When I tried ot do that it crashed so I had to roll it back. Can anyone walk me thorugh the steps to complete this upgrade? I have the upgarde specs in my signature and also have the most current Dell recommended driver to upgrade to (186.64). One question I have is if I need to uninstall the other drivers on both my 260M GTX's and also have SLI enabled?

Any help would be appreciated as I do wanna try this game out.
I did get the video cards upgraded and STO is now working! The only problem I now have is that the Nvida Display Panel will not function, needs an upgrade as well, any ideas how to do that?

Go get the latest nvidia drivers from nvidia.com,
Forget about the dell recommended drivers. I believe as part of the install it removes the previous driver.

I played a little of the Beta for STO, and thought the game was ok. It was neat to be able to go from starship combat to ground missions, and the graphics were good, but it just seemed like an average MMO to me. I would be interested in buying it if there wasn't a monthly fee.
