TNG was the best and Picard was the best out of all the captains. I personally find it hard to take all the other Star Trek shows seriously after being spoiled by TNG. I can't wait until the 1.6 viewer is released, I'm going to make some sweet wallpapers with it.

TNG and TOS are the only real star treks, despite the fact that they are extremely different in their styles. Everything else is Rick Berman's trashing of the series after roddenberry was too ill and then too dead to keep him in check. The later seasons of DS9 are interesting, thoughtful. It does start slow, but that series is heavily based on character set up since it's more about the people than the adventure... purposeful of course since it was sci-fi on an outpost as opposed to a ship. People who like the later seasons tend to forget that that was after the defiant came and the plots reverted to a more episodic adventure style, rather than the slow character set ups and social commentary episodes of the earlier seasons.
Voyager is crap.
ENT is a nice display of CGI. Other than that it's crap too.
Trek Snob!
There hasn't been a good Trek PC game for a while. The last one I got my hopes up for was Legacy, but it turned out to be a stunted, poorly implemented port of the xbox360 version, which was only decent itself.
This one looks nice. I hope it comes into existence instead of dying out/disappearing. -
I think it's inaccurate and unreasonable to call TOS and TNG the only real Star Treks. DS9 was fantastic when the show converted away from the antiquated episodic template that began to show its age towards the tail end of TNG, and served to totally cripple Voyager.

I am not sure that I will purchase another Star Trek PC game after Star Trek Online's huge disappointment
I have been purchasing Trek PC/video games since the 1980's and to date they all have disappointed. Granted my standards are high as the only PC games that I play are made by Blizzard (WoW, Starcraft, and Diablo2). Even so besides the two Armada games which I played for about 4 months (combined) the rest were a waste of good money.
This comes from a man who was 10 years old when I watched my first episode of Star Trek in 1966 (The Man Trap). I believe that TOS was the most important/historic series as without it none of the others would have been made. I also believe that DS9 was the most exciting series with the best character development and single story line (Dominion War) compared with all the others. Picard was the best Captain though, I will agree
I have come to believe that Star Trek cannot be made into a satisfying PC game. I am ok with that too. However how can anyone think that BC was anything but a huge disappointment and an effort in futility. I played it for about an hour and then used it for a cup holder/frisbee, IMO worst Trek PC game ever! -

As for Bridge Commander, using it as a Frisbee was not very smart, because you basically missed out on a whole 7 years of custom Bridge Commander modding like the Kobayashi Maru mod which added new ships and tons of content that weren't even included in the original game as well as new missions, weapons and MP maps all of which were miles better than the original content. -

I do wish you luck with this endeavor tho
. Oh and I am really looking forward to the next Trek books, "The Typhon Expanse" !!

no seriously bridge commander was just a base for the mod bc in it self was nothing it was just a platform
you missed great thing -

Your post sounds to me like you just chimed in at the last post and haven't even read the first post of this thread, or know anything about Excalibur at all. Perhaps you should go to the first post, take the time to read the links, check out the website and videos and educate yourself about this game.
It wouldn't hurt. -

I made a correction on the first post in regards to the game engine info, the engine being used for the game is in fact the Evolved engine. I've also added a link on the first post to the STExcalibur screenshot thread for those of you who want to see more of how the game will look, or perhaps to find some nice desktop wallpapers.

So far the videos look incredible. Hopefully they can deliver on a great story and playability (main thing most ST games lack so far).
Looking forward to seeing where this goes. -

Yep, the videos look stunning, you should check out their website too, and maybe even download the model viewer if you'd like to fly around a Galaxy class or even a Warbird.
I've updated the first post with a link to the STExcalibur Feed, definitely something to check up on regularly. -

This is, by the looks of it, going to be the best Trek game. Ever.
Mind you, there hasn't been a whole lot of worth-while competition. The Elite Force series was interesting, and different, and something that I still play as a matter of fact. Bridge Commander, if not for horrid deadlines, could have been so much more than the half-baked nonsense that made it to market. The Starfleet Command series weren't bad, as far as keeping to canon. There just wasn't very much you could do outside of a few basic things within the campaign.
All of these games could have been so much more if the devs had just put in a little more effort, and said "No, this just isn't ready. Deadline be damned."
This game however, so far, seems to be ticking all of long-overlooked boxes. -

Here are some cool screenshots of the Pathfinder laboratory, as seen in Star Trek Voyager. It is located in Starfleet's Communications Research Centre on Earth, and was the laboratory Lieutenant Reginald Barclay used to work on ways to communicate with Voyager in the Delta quadrant, and get them home quicker.

Also note that there are some job openings on the Excalibur project including GUI Artist and Model Texturer. Keep in mind this is a non profit fan made game, and you wont be getting paid. But if you have the time, skills and desire to contribute, it would be greatly appreciated by the community and you can apply at the official forums of the STE website.

I think...yes...I think I'm actually getting excited about a new star trek game. One that appears as though actual fans are doing it in a manner that is respectful of the IP and not a shameless grab at making more money by pumping another Craptictastic game into the market.
Hooray. -
Promised a variety of races such as the Romulans and Cardassians.
Instead, we get Federation and Klingons with a ridiculous PVP imbalance of:
10 FEDS:1 KLIN ratio.
Keeping in mind this MMO costs 15$/mo and they still manage to open a shop that you can purchase virtual items for real money, which gets updated with new items more than the actual game does.
They've taken advantage of the ST fan base and are milking hardcore fans for every penny they got.
Too bad there wasn't a government bureau out there that would test/review game quality before giving it a stamp of approval, which would give the company permission to sell the game. This would prevent games from being rushes/pre-released and people being lied to and deceived.
...
I can't wait for the Excalibur release ...looks quite pleasant -
ST: Excalibur really looks promising.
In regards to ST: Online, I have to admit that the company behind it skewed the fans.
Now, we also have to admit that they DID improve the game since it's release, however, the improvements still left the ground combat system with plenty of bugs and I really don't like all of the shooting around and simplistic missions.
The tech we have allowed for more complex MMORPG's ever since WOW came out, so I really don't see why Cryptic was unable to deliver on what was originally promised, or why were they still unable to implement it with newer patches and stories.
Oh wait... I do know... 'money'.
Well, we'll see what comes out of Excalibur.
But there's a decent possibility it will be good. -

Another exciting update from the guys at STE.
Procedural planet Rings: "This update shows our first pass at procedurally generated asteroid rings. The images demonstrate the ability to generate a ring using different detail levels depending on how far away the camera is. We have found that a ring of 9,000 triangles and 9 ring layers is a good number to start with.
Each ring is generated using a seed and a texture file which helps compute the probabilities used in placement. As asteroids are requested over a given range each one will be given a unique signature by our generating algorithm which lets the game identify it uniquely. The asteroids use full physics and if another item collides with them then it is possible to remember that asteroid and its modified location in case we revisit it later.
The asteroids will be pre-modeled and then procedurally placed. Please note that the current algorithm does not take into account tweaks for scaling and this gives them the "on the ring" rather than "forming the ring" appearance."Attached Files:
