I've never been too interested in Star Trek, but I do love space combat games, and would love to play one that allows me to command a capital ship with this level of detail.

    Looks fun.

This is going to be one of those games where, if you like simulators and better yet love space simulators, then Trek fan or not, you will most likely love this game.

It's also being designed especially with mod-ability in mind, so seeing the game basically turned into Star Wars or Stargate at some point by other modders within the community is almost a given. :)

Here's a video showing more of how the component view will look like.

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7TP3XyFyhNM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7TP3XyFyhNM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width='480' height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

The two circle objects inside of Voyager are just place holder Asteroids. :p

Me too, in fact since it's announcement, I have been looking forward to this game more than any other PC game.

I was recently browsing Memory Alpha and stumbled upon articles about Voyager Elite Force and Klingon Academy. So I looked if there's also an article about Excalibur, but there isn't.
Would anybody please change that? ;)

New STE ship update: The Klingon Bloodlust Cruiser.

"The Bloodlust, or 'Il neH in Klingon, is a medium sized battle cruiser. She is designed to replace the centuries old K'tinga class and fill the gap between the K'vort and Vor'Cha classes. As their newest ship, the Bloodlust is fitted with modern Klingon battlefield technology such as ablative armor and heavy disruptors. The under slung cannons that originally debuted on the Negh'Var are excellent for planetary bombardment. A long-range scout variant was also manufactured. This version has lighter defenses and no heavy disruptors."

Sorry if the pics are a little grainy, I had to re-size them and they look a bit off. These pics are actually the real models running in the engine, it's not a render.

I was already able to tell the images are from the game engine itself.
Renders would probably look even better (not that the current images are not already very nice looking - it's numerous levels above of what came before).

The literal word on the launch date is "it'll be ready when it's ready" ;) I personally would guess less than a year, but no one knows for sure.

They are always looking for help to speed up the process a bit. They've already got some of the most skilled guys I've seen working on it, but balancing the game with their school, work and personal life makes things take that much longer. You could always register at STExcalibur and offer any services you think they could use, doesn't have to be on the engine. I offered some services in weapons and hard pointing, but they've already got that covered, so I help how I can by spreading the news about STE.

New STE ship update: The New Orleans Class

    [IMG] [IMG]
    [IMG] [IMG]

"A few new shots of the New Orleans class, recently updated by Luiz to TS2. The New Orleans is one of the less well known ships of Star Trek and it often gets missed out from games. Including ships like this is important as it helps to create a more authentic experience while also giving the player a very different type of ship to play with."

Most likely it will, maybe not with the game at release but as an installable mod made by someone in the STE modding community for sure. I would expect to see it 100% at some point as it was a mod for Bridge Commander and pretty much every modder from the BCMod community are anxiously waiting for the release of STE so they can start modding for it.

Very intersting! Just curious what happens there at about one minute mark. Looks like something significant is developed then dragged away.

Really cool effect though, good representation of work done. Looks like everyone is touching every part of the code.

What is the final product "tree" supposed to look like though? Is this good progress?

It was never a dreadnought, it was simply an "exploration cruiser" (that was also armed to the teeth :D).

I believe that was the second visualization being created and dragged away. As for the engine itself it looks to be about 75% to 80% completed, and as for the rest of the game, or the "2nd visualization" it looks to only be around 40% complete.

I couldn't find this thread, so I did an online search for "star trek excalibur". First listing was Star Trek Online's Excalibur page. Dirty trick. I'm kind of surprised they are moving to free-to-play soon, same with the DC Universe MMO. Any fresh news of Excalibur?

New STE ship update: The Reman Rapier

"As a rising power within the Romulan political landscape the Remans will play an important role in Excalibur. This is the Rapier, a smaller Reman ship designed for long range transport and scouting missions. The Reman design has been textured by Jonny (JB06) to a high level of detail, with every part of the intricate hull pattern painted by hand! The ship was designed by Matt Hooker and modelled by Luiz Cordova."

Precisely because it's NOT canon. Ugh, seriously, why do they have to do this in every friggin' Star Trek game??? It's blasphemy I tell you! Gawd, do they really think us Star Trek fans will get *bored* with the handful of canon ships that exist??? (I know I wouldn't!)

A few non canon ships is not a big deal. The show must go on. The game covers the different time lines and ships that are canon but also extends into the "post Nemesis" era a bit, so there will need to be a few new ships to convey this. Besides, the Reman's need a couple more less lethal ships, I would get bored slaughtering everyone in the Scimitar, given it's massive arsenal and with it being able to fire when cloaked.

    QFT!

I like the federation ships that are canon but not that famous. To name a few (no idea if they are alreadyin the game):
    Danube class
    Nova class
    Apollo class
    Steamrunner class
    Soyuz & Lantree class
    Norway class
    Saber class

And last but not least of course:
    Yeager type
    and Constellation class

    Not really. It's too powerful.
Ten years ago or so I played a lot of Klingon Academy and I liked to fight dreadnoughts with a group of escort ships or a single one using astronomical phenomena. For example it was possible to beat a whole fleet of Kahless Bathlet ships with a single Wasp attack shuttle if you had a gas giant in your scenario.

It's not too powerful when you have to take on multiple ships by yourself which will more than likely be a scenario faced in an STE mission. But I guess if you're going ship vs ship (with the exception of the Scimitar or a Borg vessel) I can see your point.

Nice, I've been looking to get a hold of STBC and KA (never played KA before want to try it), but I can't seem to find them. :( I used to have STBC and made some mods for it, I stopped playing it a while back, and lost my game disc in some old boxes I threw out. :/ I'm wanting to get back into it though to hold me over until STE is finished.

I see your point too, but the same way as I consider a separated Galaxy class still as one ship I'd consider a separated Prometheus class as a single ship. Of course if you fight against an enemy squadron the tides may turn again. I guess it's just a question of one's point of view.

I know. Technically KA even runs quite well in Wine, even without the fix. But there are graphics problems (unrelated to the fix you refer to) that make certain ships almost invisible in the game which in turn makes it very hard to play. Most notably top and bottom textures of saucer sections and nacelle pylons are invisible so you can see the stars right through the ship.

Agreed, they are certainly doing a stellar job. I just hope that release date on ModDB holds true. If it does get released in Q2 2012 I'll be a happy camper, as I didn't expect it done until Q3 or Q4 2012..
