For 1v1 multiplayer, HOW you play actually matters more than what units you tend to use. Watch these three videos and then go from there. Don't get turned off by the titles; it's not like they're explaining how to attack-move and build units.

Id start with the single player campaign so that you can play vs AI and not be under pressure. Just get the feel for the game and basic mechanics.
You wont really learn anything here that will help you in mutliplayer too much except the very basics but you would be robing yourself of a great story and some of the games lore if you dont do this anyways.
Once your ready to move into multiplayer look at those links posted already, and if you pick one race start to look up and learn the common openings and builds. Reactionary play makes for a better player, but for starting off I think your better to just learn standard builds and master them and then learn how to tweak it on demand as you get better.
You will need to focus on the mechanics too much to be thinking about what to do with your build if you try to take it all on at once.
I do recommend playing 2v2 or 3v3 to start its less stressing and less focused on just you. However I enjoy 2v2 more than 1v1 and the skills from one are not exactly carried over to the other so if you prefer one game type to another maybe jump right in.
Be sure to watch your replays to see what you did wrong and what you did good and learn from it. If you really enjoy the game you may enjoy watching pro player replays for entertainment and you can learn from those as well. -
Problem with starting with 2v2 is who you get matched up with. Some people get so angry if you don't do as "they" ask. Heck I've tried to play 2v2 multiple times lately and it spins for five to ten minutes with no match. It's hard to find a match in bronze any more, I'm telling you.
In any case, listen to ViciousXUSMC, he's a master SC2 player despite what he says. He can flatten any opponent. -
thanks guy, looking forward to it!

lol!
As for the 2v2, it's a lot easier if you party up with someone. Preferably with Skype voice chat, since the in game one seems wonky with different systems

Last post was in 2011? Geebus?!
Is no one playing anymore?!?! -
Nope, only the pros play any more for the most part. Good luck jumping in a game as a new recruit.

True. I still play, but only once every like two weeks or so, lol. League of legends more often nowadays
