My marines do not fear your colossus...![]()

Yeah there is no real reason to fear them, its not a painful death the laser is so large and intense that it incinerates all the nerve endings instantly so even though it takes a couple of seconds before vital organs are destroyed and for death to occur its relatively painless, kinda tickles a bit actually.
So the next time you see 200 marines melt into ashes dont feel bad for them, be happy for them. -
There's cheaters in Starcraft now... In the game start it said "Terran" for the opponent but he was Protoss.

Im feel pretty confident in blizzards cheat detection, if they cheat they will get caught and perma banned so let them hurt themselves.
-
I realized why I quit this stupid game. I suck, period. It ends up being who can click in sequence the fastest. It stuck me with three Protoss players in a row, and they all started with the cannon rush. I just quit. It's just stupid. No point.

You have to work you way up to being good, lower ladders are just full of cheese so scouting is so important. Get that early scv in there base and make sure you check for proxy pylons and cannons.
In platinum when I play I almost never see cheese more people play straight up games.
But my APM is considerably lower than most other people my skill level so I do not think it comes down to who can click the fastest I think it comes down to who can make the best decisions the fastest.
This is a game that I think truly uses the brain to be good unlike say FPS genre where its just getting used to the maps and aiming quickly.
The other thing I say to do is never play 1v1 if your frustrated play team games, they are more fun and less stressing. I almost never play 1v1 these days. -
I've heard the talk all the time but it never works. I scout with SCV I lose those critical resources in the beginning. I even catch them entering my base, but even if all resources are dedicated to killing the pylon (i.e. marines), I always lose.
It's just I can't move fast enough. I have a whole chain of events I want to do, but it just never happens fast enough, no matter how fast I collect resources or anything. I don't know that it takes brains as much as memorizing responses and yes clicking the fastest otherwise APM wouldn't be so highly regarded.
I only play 1v1 because I don't want to team with a stranger. To me, multi v multi those stats don't mean much it just means you've possibly gotten lucky paired with people that are good at the game. I dunno. I guess I don't get it and never will. I used to love the original Starcraft but really dislike, actually loathe this game now. Can't even get myself to get too far in the single player campaign. I feel that it lost it's appeal by catering to the South Koreans and not the essence of the traditional Starcraft. -
You're Terran. He's cannon rushing you. Solution? Lift off and make all the minerals he spent on the rush useless
-
That doesn't work either because by the time I move and resettle they've noticed and are going to have units at my doorstep while I have few to none because I've been in the air because everything moves so friggin slow.

Seeing lots of people that like Starcraft 2 on the "best games" thread. However currently only myself and Minato (INEEDMONEY) really play together on a regular basis.
This thread has been long lost in the abyss so for you newer guys that maybe never saw it, now is time to join up and share those user names so we can all play together. -
Hmm, lol. Thrown a half dozen games in this new season to see if I can get ranked Bronze 100. Won't go below 90.
-
I'm silver 100, lol. I suck
Lost the only 7 games I have played so far in this season
I know what to do, just never execute it properly. I think I'm just going to stick to 4gate, 14pool (small maps), and 3rax-->mech for now. See if I can improve in those. And I never do well late game, either
Oh, well. More gameplay will help, probably.
-
I think I was bronze 25 for a while, but could never get silver. Don't know why. I'm just goofing off now because I don't feel like playing at high intensity. It's just no fun.
-
lol, I have NO clue why I was put in silver. I keep losing to all-in bronzes, and never seem to walk away with a victory
Even when I know my oponent's weakness (all stalkers on one base ~12min in; I have two bases from early expand). Though I usually lose with 1000+ minerals/chrystals, lol... no suprise there. I seem to collapse under the slightest of pressure
I'm tempted to just build mass hellions the next time I get terran. See how that works
-
I play primarily Terran. I tried Protoss and Zerg, but having hard enough time with just Terran, so will stick with that for a while. Plus I like the units. Maybe when the next single player expansion comes along I'll play as Zerg.
-
I used to be down there. Now I'm about Bronze 25. Best thing in the world for me was watching Day 9's "newbie tuesdays" and realizing I was playing the entire game wrong for purposes of multiplayer, even though I had won the single-player campaign, had played WC3, etc. Start with these:
Basic mechanics: Day[9] Daily #257 - Newbie Tuesday: Refining Mechanics | Day[9] on blip.tv
Basic mechanics #2: Day[9] Daily #261 - Newbie Tuesday: Mechanics #2 | Day[9] on blip.tv
How to get into SC2 (more useful and less condescending than it sounds): Day[9] Daily #269 - Newbie Tuesday: How to get into SC2! | Day[9] on blip.tv
By the way, everyone, I'm Mitlov on battle.net as well. When I get my new machine next week, I'm going to start playing again. I play Protoss exclusively and tend to log on late at night, after my kids are asleep. -
See, if I have to study for a game, then there's too much involved for me in this game. I just want to play and build and destroy. With other people wanting to do the same. Not people that have trained their fingers to reciprocate a thousand times a second, and who live, eat, breathe, and die SC2. Not for me.
They need a weekend league or something. Tired of 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 games where people get so mad if you don't do what they tell you or if you aren't at their skill level. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I still suck at this game... :|

Not as bad as me... Happy Birthday BTW!

Think of it as a sport, not a game. Because it's complex enough to cross that boundary. Even if you just play pick-up basketball games with your friend or at the park, you might practice your shooting sometime, right? If you get into the sport, you might watch some college or professional games on TV and pick up (deliberately or accidentally) the tactics and strategy of the sport, right?
Day 9 is a funny guy. Watching his shows is like learning about politics from watching Steven Colbert and Jon Stewart. You pick up what's going on in the world, but it doesn't feel like reading the Wall Street Journal. Seriously, watch those three episodes I gave you. Then try the game again with what you learned. If your game doesn't improve dramatically, I'd be surprised. It did for me.
Basketball wouldn't be any fun if you didn't ever practice shooting, if you didn't ever stop or analyze what you need to do to win a basketball game, etc. If you just went on the court and tried to interact with the hoops with the ball, it wouldn't be fun at all. But that's not a problem with basketball; it's just not the right approach to having fun with it. -
Except in basketball, you aren't thrown in the middle of a game with semi-pro or pro athletes suddenly. You're still playing with your casual Sunday buddies.
-
If you're in bronze league, you're not being thrown in with pro- or semi-pros either. Now, you ARE getting thrown in with people who have been playing intramural basketball for three years now; there's nobody left who is still figuring out how to dribble. So until you learn how to play like an intramural player, they're going to run circles around you.
But it doesn't take long. It doesn't take dozens of hours of monotony. A few months ago, I watched those three shows I linked for you over lunches for a few days, and within just a couple of games of implementing my new mentality, my new overall strategy (not details like what units to counter with what units, but the basic framework of how I play), I started winning. Seriously, give it a shot, it could make you fall in love with the game all over again. -
I hate to say it but I have watched a lot of those videos. I was up to rank 25 I believe, just w/l was about 50% at 1v1 and could never do any better. Plus 90% of the time when it said I was favored or especially strongly favored to win, I'd lose. Plus just because players are bronze doesn't mean they're noobs. There's some top notch players in bronze, and one guy I played found out later he bumped up to diamond... so go figure.
-
Huh. That's not my experience in bronze at all. Once I get my new machine, let's find some time and play together. You may have some random, small-but-critical hole in your game that's compromising your overall results.
edit: I originally typed "let's find some time and lay together," which, um...is not something I'm really up for. One letter makes all the difference! -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
lol, lets lay together
I dont play as much as I used too so I am probably more a goldie level than a platnium, though I did win my last 6 games in a row so I think im only a win or so away from diamond.
I play 2v2 though almost never do I play 1v1 its too stressing I like to relax and enjoy 2v2's or if I see more than one friend on 3's and 4's. -
LLOOOLL! Unless you're a hot blonde ... female ... no.
But my problem is a lot of times I just know what I gotta do just can never execute fast enough. And I've been criticized after the fact, and I know what's going on, but it's a matter of PEBKAC. -
Wow great thread!
-
Well I'm a guy, 5'6", 200 lbs, but I AM blonde, so I guess it all depends on your priorities
You mean, like, you can't get an army together fast enough for when your opponent comes knocking? That might explain why the worst-ranked people beat you the worst (there's a lot of early game cheese tactics amongst low-level bronze, so they bring the pressure the earliest). I think I might know what's going on, because I used to have the same problem. So here's a few questions:
[all terminology shall be protoss, but this applies to everyone]
Do you build pylons and probes ALL game long continuously, or do you stop once you've got about 15 harvesting?
Have you hotkeyed buildings to 4, 5, 6, 7, starting first and foremost with the nexus?
Are you SURE your nexus is continually producing probes?
Are you letting your money get high, and then queueing up a bunch of units? (If you can build more than one tier-two unit out of each production facility without running out of cash, the answer is "yes").
Are you SURE you're still building pylons and probes? You sure you didn't stop as soon as hostilities broke out?
Are you continually scouting the map to make sure that your opponent isn't grabbing numerous expansions with minimal defenses per expansion?
Still building pylons and probes? -
I'm up for a NBR SC2 match
I'm definately not silver level stuff, and none of my friends ever do anything other than 6rax or 7RR, so I never learn...
-
Thanks Mitlov but been down this path before. Resources aren't my issue. It's my slow acting hands and brain... And I play Terran usually, so I make SCV's and have multiple bases with resources up the wazoo, hotkeys, everything else. I'm just slow and get flustered easily. Although I just won a game and bumped me to rank 60.
-
lol... do you have a strategy for moving from early-mid-late game? that's what usually gets me. I jsut get to a point, ahve 5rax, 3 factory, 2 star ports and have no clue what to do
-

I picked a race finally, I am Zerg now.
I do miss random some, esp because I was working closer to those avatar achievements for playing random and its nice to not have your opponent know what you are
Since I play less these days than I used too though having only one race is helping me stay decent at the game. -
If you have slow hands and get flustered easily, why on earth are you playing as Terran? Terran is BY FAR the most micro-intensive race out there. Most of your units suck without careful micro (stim for infantry, siege mode for tanks, Vikings converting, etc).
Zerg wouldn't be right for you either. Minimal micro is needed for the fighting, but they've got the most micro-heavy economy (queens vomiting--gotta keep up all game long).
Protoss is the way to go for people who have low APM and get flustered easily. Only a couple of the units actually need special powers actively used in battle (sentries, high templar), and while missing out on chrono boost after the early game slows down your economy a bit, it won't cripple you. If you build a smart army (for example, chargelots/stalkers/colossi for PvT, or chargelots/rays for PvP), you really need minimal micromanagement and you'll probably do MUCH better. -
I hate Protoss and Zerg even worse. At least with Terran I can relate to the units being produced and have some general idea of their strengths. But with others I don't care how much I play them they're just obnoxious and foreign to me.
Another thing. Just got done with a game, lasting, I dunno 30-35 minutes, I had the guy clearly beat. He was well defended but I had like four expansions (huge map), and he had none, but it would probably take another 20 minutes to grind away at him, why didn't he just gg. Irritating.
Then my power flickered off then on, and got disconnected from the game, well PC turned off (on gaming desktop), gah, 30 minutes wasted for nothing, never go to finish. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Terran can work well since they can be so defensive and mech play is good for low APM. Goodie I think is one of the lowest APM pro players and does mass mech plays.

Maybe I need to do more 2v2 or 3v3.
-
Baka didn't notice this thread still lives ._.
Vicious's threads are IMMORTALLL -
3v3 and 4v4 is not much more than, "build 1-2 types of units of this quantity and by this time, and all attack one guy by X:XX min"
Not much strategy, unless if both sides survive the first push intact, in which case, strategy starts mattering.
-
Not unless that's your ultimate goal. If you want to play 2v2, then play 2v2. If you want to play 1v1, then play 1v1. The skills from 2v2 or 3v3 aren't going to help you as much in 1v1, where a more balanced gameplay style is essential.
It's always alien at first (har har), but each race isn't that hard to learn. If you're at all interested in learning 'Toss, I'd be happy to write out a guide. It won't get you into gold or diamond, but I bet it'd get you up to the top third of bronze.
Important thing: you had great map control! That's essential. Some people are stubborn and don't gg when you beat them, but it's important to have a plan for how to crack a turtled opponent. As protoss, for example, if they did that, depending on their defenses, I'd use carriers/stalkers/mothership or colossi/stalkers/mothership.
Low APM for a pro is very different than low APM for a bronze league player. Both in terms of the overall APM rate and in terms of how efficient you are with the actions you do take. There's a difference between a pro who is just very efficient with his actions, and a bronze league player who just has trouble keeping up with the pace of the game.
Let me explain what I mean. Early-mid battle, mix of tier one and tier two. Terrans, if they go all mech, are going to have hellions, tanks, and/or vikings. Protoss are going to have immortals and stalkers. What happens if there's a battle with no micro whatsoever, where each side just just attack-moves toward the other (common bronze problem, you don't realize a battle is happening until it's a third over)? Protoss will DOMINATE.
On the Protoss side, immortals and stalkers sort themselves out automatically. The short-range immortals move into the front to get in range, forming a natural and highly-effective meat shield for the supporting stalkers. Frankly, an immortal/stalker mix is good for 90% of situations in early-to-mid game if you're bronze league protoss. Easy to use, versatile, and effective.
On the terran side, you'll get SLAUGHTERED without micromanaging the battle. Hellions will rush to the front and stand there and get mowed down, because they're meant for harassment, not line-holding. If your tanks don't deploy, they're useless. If they deploy in the wrong place terrain-wise, they're vulnerable. Once again, micro is needed. And the vikings will hover over the battle and get massacred unless you either pull them back or land them.
See, if the terran player micros well, choosing the right terrain, protecting his tanks while they haul away in siege mode, he will massacre the protoss player. But if there is poor micro on both sides, like you expect in bronze league, protoss will win every time. -
Immortal range got buffed in patch 1.4, now the same as stalkers...ಠ_ಠ
If anyway wants to play me, my details are in the list.
I am just a bronze, playing for fun! Good for 1v1, 2v2, whatever.
-
I think we should start up an NBR bronze league group. That way the skill level isn't all over the place.
-
^^ heh, maybe an obs map?
-
Sounds like a nice idea.
Obs map?
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Oh yeah Obs I used to do that some its kinda fun.
Its a 1v1 map, but the other players not currently in combat just get full vision and can watch the match. So you can learn from others.
Good way to kick back and play some games since you can eat and stuff when your obs. -
Seconded. (10 char)

I purchased SC2 thinking it would run on my old macbook, much to my dismay it didn't and since it was open software no refunds. Looking forward to playing it on my new laptop. Is there any guides you all would recommends for getting into the multiplayer scene? Thinking Terran or Protos def not zerg. Anyways thanks in advance and looking forward to getting my butt kicked by you all when I am able to play!
