i still haven't get it yet cause i m afarid it might run slow on my laptop!
-
Anyone happen to know if the War Pig mercenaries eject brass casings when they fire their weapons? My friend has the game and likes little details like that, but can't play on high graphics settings.
-
Played through the tutorials and one mission of the campaign. Using the framerate counter that's built-in to the game, I've noticed it to be running around the 40fps mark on the average. Running the game in 1920x1080 with everything cranked up.
Also with regards to the cutscenes, yeah the gpu area seemed to heat up really fast when cutscenes were playing (but thankfully my laptop didn't shut down on me or anything). We can use the frameratecapglue and frameratecap variables to alleviate this, right? What's the best value for both? Thanks! -
Well... i finally went out and bought the game... Ran it on my E1505. Ran at 15 FPS at low... completely unplayable...
-
You'll have to wait till your Envy comes.
-
Ahhhh!!! That is soooo far away!!!
-
Hmm.. Just played it on my dinodesktop, and hit ctrl+alt+F, and was seeing ranges of 20-25fps on bnet in a 2v2 lost temple game, with low-settings. After about 5minutes of gameplay, my allie got zlot rushed. When I sent lings in to help, I guess the action got too crazy for my fossil, and then my comp decided to crash.
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ OC'd to 2.5ghz btw. I guess there really is a diff, cuz it seems a bit faster.
And a question: How come when I play as guest (offline), there's no singleplayer maps, like the old sc/bw, where I can compstomp? Do I really have to dl every single map from bnet first and then play? Cuz there's only like 2 melee maps, one of which being LT. -
Well, it won't run on my Acer 5670 then probably? Core Duo 1.66, 2GB RAM, X1600! Thought about getting a laptop just to play this game then I thought about how ludicrous that idea was.

Satellite A300
Core 2 duo 2.0ghz
Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Shaders/Shadows/Terrain on medium. Everything else high or ultra.
25-30 fps during the campaign. -
Quick update on performance:
Ran through a couple hours of campaign, cutscenes, loading screens, Hyperion, etc., including some GPU-chugging epic-scale combat. Some cutscenes get insane fps (I saw up to 500), but GPU/CPU temps never got very high.
I got 82, 79, 80, 77 degrees on CPU cores (marginally less than when I play Crysis or Metro, more than playing non-intensive games). GPU got up to 77 max. That's higher than most games, but not the highest I've seen it.
So it's definitely challenging my system on CPU and GPU, but, well, it's not Crysis... -

the 500 FPS is the problem.
you need to throw in those frameratecap and frameratecapglue settings into your variables.txt
a good option is 60 or so for frameratecap and 30 for the menu.
though you can go a bit higher if you want. -
I'm not sure the 500fps is problematic, at least on my lappy. I could easily see the graphics during intense gameplay pushing my temps to those limits. And they're not exactly worrying temperatures, anyway.

G73 handles it fine on Ultra. I threw in an overclock for good measure.
Im not really seeing a difference between high and ultra though so I am playing on all high just in case I get into a situation that could slow down.
I recorded a game but got interrupted like 6 times so not going to bother encoding it and sending it to youtube. I'll try again sometime soon.
Gotta think of a good stage that I can do in 10 minutes or less and wont have any spoilers. -
I need to know if there is a way to turn down shadows to low without having shaders to low too. The game looks like crap with low shaders.
And is it just me, or does the game seem a bit...slow if its not running at 60 fps? It just seems like the game is running in slow motion or something. -
Everything looks slow to me...those 15 fps dont do much
-
Play on bnet, a game of evolves, any UMS game you like. You can just do a 10-15sec video.
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
evolves? must be a new custom game?
-
It's a classic. I saw it on bnet earlier today--glad someone took the time to remake a classic. Also, try battlecraft or TugoWar if possible. (Battlecraft will prolly be a good one to test out the CPU's strength/weakness).
-
Max out on ultra at 1920x1080 with average 50-60fps. When there a big battle it drop down to 30fps.

Just played evolves first time, neat game took long time though. I'll record it next time now that I know how it plays.
Got down to 10fps in evolves with some huge like 200 vs 200 vs 150 battles. Im affraid to see what happens with fraps recording. -
Having the same complaint here.
-

Well in the beta those times when the fps wasn't limited and the game just redrew the same thing at 500 fps people started burning getting temps in the 90s.
so...I'd set your fps limit stuff up anyway. -
Everything on Ultra, 1200x900, no AA. Always 60FPS (put the cap in my txt file, no point in burning my GPU for frames I wont notice). Laptop in sig.
-
Trying to figure out if it's worth purchasing this game... I have a Lenovo W510 with the NVIDIA® Quadro® FX880M and am wondering how hard I can push this system before it crashes?
-
Did some tweaking over the past couple days and now I'm able to get 30+ fps on 1280x720 with ultra textures and mid-high settings. Turning the reflections off helped to significantly increase performance. I was thinking that, with my i7, it wouldn't be a problem having them on. Apparently it was. What do reflections do in the game anyway?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
creep reflects stuff.
water reflects stuff.
shiny metal may reflect stuff I dunno. -
Default settings on N81VP T9600/4670 is completely playable on 3v3's
-
Oh okay. I guess I won't miss those effects too much.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Anyone know if this game can utilize 6 cores?
-
There's no way he should need to run it on low though.
I'm at 16x900 with medium across the board on a 330m and it's smooth...haven't fraps it yet. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
you dun need fraps to check the fps.
just do ctrl+alt+f while in game. -
A friend who has exactly the same laptop as mine says he has everything on high, 1600 x 900 native resolution, post processing medium and he gets 45 fps in game but he hasn't played for long yet.
-
My 9600m GT can only handle everything on low lol boo!
Also have the same question! -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
you can turn the shadows down to blob only by modifying the shadows settings in your variables.txt
Find these settings in there and change 'em.

Since Starcraft 2 performance supposedly depends more on cpu clock speed rather the number of cores, I OCed my CPU using SetFSB.
Set the FSB to 145 and when I played through the campaign, I noticed that the mouse cursor had become corrupted. Decided to go back to stock speed. -
Take a look at this. The ati5870 rapes gtx480 sli in SC2

Damn, I get nowhere near that average fps on ultra with my i7 720QM and ati 5870.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well they're using an i7 920 and SC2 really stresses your cpu as much/if not more than the GPU
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I do depending on the scene but SC2 can vary so greatly depending on the scene that unless they build in a benchmark or somebody creates a time loop for benchmarking you cant compare results from one benchmark to another because its too random.
Im sure somebody can create a custom game that is just a forced camera loop and we can use that for accurate benchmarking comparisons between ourselves and anybody else that uses it.
Just like the Crysis benchmark tool. -
it also beats itself in crossfire
either it's cpu limited to the extreme, or it doesn't use sli/crossfire setups at all. i'm guessing it's the latter. -
But how well do desktop GPUs translate to lappy GPUs?
-
Did you like evolves?
Will this aid my dinodesktop? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
It was interesting, like many custom games easy to pick up and play but hard to master.
Took me a while to figure out you do not have to have your masser on a direction and you can manually control your units.
In our 4 player game 3 of us were new and not too good but one guy was a master and evolved nearly 2x faster than us and really owned the game. He made it last longer than needed before finally killing us.
Once he got about 3 evolutions ahead of me there was just no catching up. -
Frames Per Second. Higher the better
-
This article is for desktop cards, but a good read and LOTS of different cards compared in SC2 performance.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty GPU & CPU Performance - TechSpot -
Haha, I mastered evolves in WCIII and that sounds like exactly what I do to people. I played one yesterday and got all the way up to battleships.
But yes, my game would drop down below 10 fps when all those units start piling up. I would have to go mow down another player just to cut the lag. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
not if you're already running on low everything. -
I don't have some of those settings (creepselfshadow, localShadows, parallaxshadow, shadowmapsize, softshadowTaps, transparentshadows). Everything that I did have though, was already set at 0 (zero). Should I worry about the missing lines?
