Anyone heard anything from blizzard saying that theyll do away with the whole having to log on to the internet to play offline?

Heard something about it, but dont know if its official.

Also, does this site use the sc2 replay system directly?

Performance question: Can anyone here get smooth framerates on a laptop with all settings maxed out in a big match, say 3v3 with all hell breaking loose? I'm a little peeved that my new system with an HD5870 has to have things kicked down to medium for smooth online play, and I'm curious whether a different processor (I have an i5-430) or other hardware might make a truly significant difference.

Better processor would help a lot but I doubt any notebooks can do ultra high 3v3 all out 200/200 clash with smooth framerates o_O Desktops, maybe but notebooks just no D:

The Asus G73 with a i7 720QM and a ATI 5870M handles Ultra maxed out 1920x1080 just fine for any normal combat and even large combat situations.

It can get down to like 20fps but thats not noticeable or a problem in a RTS game.

What is a problem is the out of the ordinary super large swarm battles like you may find on many custom games like Evolves, or a lot of attacks/actions/effects going on like some TD games.

If the situation is bad enough it can get down to single digit frame rates.

Playing on High instead of ultra seems to help with those kind of situations quite a bit and I cant actually see any difference in the graphics.

The models are compatible to any other good FPS game but instead of seeing the models in full size your really zoomed out so minor loss of detail is not noticeable, even with max zoom your not too close and I do not think any good player uses anything except max zoom out.

I do no really get much better performance on my desktop with a 3.6ghz Q6600 and a desktop 5870 card. It seems to me the GPU is the limit before the CPU is, I see all 4 cores used but never really maxed out.

What would be neat is if you had free camera on replays then you can get super close and see these battles from a new persective, maybe then when your that close like first person view of a unit the difference between high & ultra is apparent but even then its probably not unless your comparing two different screen shots and looking for the minor differences. SC2 is not exactly the kind of game where you can sit around and admire the scenery for very long :p

Dang... SC2's been sittin installed in my HDD since Day 1, and I haven't been playing it cuz my dinodesktop can't handle it. It runs fine at 20-25fps, but it's uncomfortable.

Desktop or laptop? Only lappy I feel confident at this point is the GX or the G53, but WAYY too expensive. If only the E14 didn't change price.

Has anyone been getting mouse pointer corruption inSC2?

Seems to happen with ATI GPUs. Anyone have a solution?

    It's getting pretty annoying.

I get it every now and then. It is quite annoying. The only thing I can do is finish the mission or match I'm in and restart my system.

I think he means artifacting on the pointer or a box around it or something.

    I haven't seen that on my envy14.

still some ATI cards had some issues when starting (invisible units, etc) but I've never seen it happen.

Since SCII is now released and the thread has served its purpose, I'm going to quietly close this thread. Please continue discussion on any of the other issues in one of the various SCII threads floating around now. Thanks.
