Real men have a gallon of SC2 play-time whisky!

Though I'm definitely more of a beer guy. Always good to have a beer handy when Starcrafting. Beer and, on Saturdays, spicy cheese bread.

Well that was the point of chess queen reference :p . He had the economic and timing lead because the loss of the zergs spawning pool. All he had to do was take a deep breathe, relax and draw it out into a macro war where he would have an advantage, except he felt like he already won.

All I can say is Ensnare is probably the worlds best terran, he's #3 in the toughest SC2 diamond division in the world, he probably got overconfident and lost track of any counterattack his opponent was doing, and did do.

I do still reccomend watching ensnare if anyone has the APM for crazy terran korean builds, he seems to be one of the most aggressive players I've ever seen, but has the winrate to back it up.

It doesnt look at scores at all when placing. Its more of a mix of who won, and everyone's relative standins already. You musta beating enough plat level players to get placed there.

I have a lot of "play time whine" :)

I usually drink wine or beer when I play an intense game, it helps relax me a bit otherwise my neck and shoulders are super tense.

And like Vicious, I think sleep and distractions has a lot to do with it too. I haven't been getting much sleep lately, my kids are just restless through the night recently. And I can only play after they go to bed, or if I decide to play while they nap instead of cleaning up the house or taking a nap myself. But SC2 games can last from 15 minutes to an hour, and you can't exactly pause or quit mid-game. Well, you can, but not without pissing off an opponent or losing a game without finishing it. I realize I just don't have the time to dedicate really, or when I do I'm dead tired. That doesn't help.

@ Vicious - Thanks for your input. Do you have your replays posted somewhere? I'd like to watch some of them.

@ Reizo - I'd love to play a game with you in 2v2. You seem to be a very patient and helpful person.

If I can make it to plat, It has to be easy. I'm not a skilled player at all, and I'm not sure how I ranked up to plat in 3v3. Maybe not too many players in 3v3?

You can easily get lucky with your placement matches and win those either banking on getting good teammates or taking advantage of disorganized/weak enemy teams.

I'm certainly not very good but 4 out of 5 of my placement matches in 4v4 were just ridiculously easy and I got the most points every one of those 4 games, all I had to do was get one good marine/marauder opening down and team up with a friend so we could do a good early game push and hope our other two allies weren't completely horrible. I'm assuming most of our opponents were just randomly paired up by matchmaking because none of them were organized enough to have any kind of team strategy so as long as we had just two people working well together we had a huge advantage even if we weren't very good on our own. But the 5th was against an organized team that lead a devastating 4-way rush against us before our allies even had a military force and we got crushed.

Either way I got into gold league and I definitely don't think I belong there. I probably would have gotten into plat too if it weren't for that one loss.

hmm just won 3 games and lost 1 in 1v1 and got no points for any of the 4 games...

That last game was a 30 minute game toe to toe on steps of war, the best rush map in the game and he was zerg so I knew to expect a rush. Sure enough it happened and I was ready went barracks first and had scv there to defend. I countered and took his base but he expanded during the chaos into the high yield.

By that time he got enough zerglings to nearly wipe me out and I had to play catch up. He also put a bunch of static defense down so I needed a large force.

I went tanks but by the time I got them he had hydra and was well defended. I slow pushed with the tanks and a handfull of marines and won. But he had expanded again into the next base up on the steps. He rushed my tanks with tons of speedlings and I lost my whole attack force.

I was also one one base the whole time and almost out of minerals, he snuck into my base soon as I got my wall down and took out almost all my guys... Lucky I started a starport and got 2 banshee. I then took out his two hives with teh banshee and while I did that he pushed hard 3 or 4 times with lots of zerglings but could not get through my wall with the scv repairing and the marines shooting. It took like 6 minutes to take out his base with only two banshee but he had no air other than his queen that i killed so it was GG. Really close call though and shows you can beat the 6pool/8pool rush if you expect it and prepare for it.

That sounds like an extremely epic game :D Care to share the replay? lol :)

It's weird how he never thought of making an overseer to spot banshees and more queens to prevent the hive though ._. He definitely went all in to just beat you there

It appears to be BNET problem, should be fixed like basically immediately since they have a fulltime staff dedicated to SC2.

    yay back in gold 1v1.

I never did get points for those 7 or so games I won yesterday but the first game I played to day and won, no points again but tossed me in gold.

Came in as rank 14, won my first even match game and now I am rank #9 in my gold division.

I can definitely tell the difference between the gold and silver players, economy comes into play a lot more I think. I could have lost this last game due to my economy but lucky my micro/macro picked up the slack, and he stuck with DT thoughout the game and I had like 4 observers on the field that was a mistake.

theyre pretty annoying. best thing to do is hit them from more than one side with banelings, fungal growth.

make sure to upgrade ur armor.

As Snowmobile said, Fungal Growth does wonders.

Burrowed banelings have also saved me a lot from that bio ball. pop up right in the middle of the ball and BOOM! :)

Whats the best way to practice macro? Are there any custom maps for this? I don't wanna start 1v1ing yet because im just horribad at macro in general and multitasking. If i had 3 seperate attack groups and i wanted to attack 3 different areas at once, i would fail horribly, on top of banking a load of resources lol.

So yeah, any tips on that?

    Hey mate.
You get 50 "practise league" matches which are not counted in your victory/defeat history once you've finished all 50.

So start playing 1v1's and don't worry if you lose the first 50 matches.

ugh been getting rolled lately, a lot of it due to bad scouting. I can get a drone in on terran before the usual two supply depot + barracks walloff, but I don't get to see much. Any other options for scouting? I HATE losing an overlord to bad placement though, usually get supply blocked b/c of it. Should I go ahead and sacrifice an overlord just for scouting and plan ahead by producing an extra? Protoss is hit and miss, sometimes I just don't do a good enough going back with lings to scout again.

I need tips on scouting period. I've had the better macros 75% of the time, yet I lose and I watch the replay and it's frustrating.

Overlord sacrificing is normal for zerg scouting really but try changelings once in a while?

You can even try a single burrowed roach moving underground and hope they lack detectors

for me a good scout is a few speed-lings, they get there fast and if they die it was a small investment.

Overlords are slow, even with the speed upgrade they are not too fast and if I lose them I may get supply blocked.

Roach is a good idea but you have to have both burrow and the roach upgrade to do that.

If you went muta those make good scouts too while your busy harassing.

I consider macro to be economy... just make sure to always have 22-30 workers per base, and never let resources accumulate.

If you're in the middle of a battle, the trick is to hotkey your production builds (or hatchery) and just hit the number + hotkey for units, that way your macro should always be on top. (you can also rally your hotkey-ed buildings to the battle to get reinforcements as they are being produced)

I won 3 games in a row 2v2! I'm getting good at Protoss! (I'm REALLY not a fan of Zerg/Terrian yet, but Ill expand). I'm learning how to build, micro, macro, scout and expand much quicker than previously... However I must say its because of my teammates ZERG rush that stopped their rush that saved me... twice (why do I always get attacked first). So I need a good Toss rush defense.... Once I have that I own end game ^_^
