Does anyone use ravens? I like to use them for other things than scouting, but...has anyone run into a player that uses the air defense drone thing? Or seeker missiles?
-
-
They're great for worker harass
-
I always have a raven around when I'm playing Terran. No idea why I just love them
-
Ravens are pretty much the only detectors available for Terrans, other than the scanner sweep. Dropping auto-turrets is handy too, especially just to get a few extra shots in when facing an attack or to harass workers and such.
-
What about the air defense drone thing? I saw a video where a guy dropped some in front of turrets and snuck his vikings in for the landing, but are they any good against air units?
-
They don't actually do anything. They're a support craft, like a Science Vessel. They don't have any direct armaments other than the seeker missile, which is a splash-damage casted attack, not a standard one.
-
Played a 2v2 the other day where my ally rushed sci vessels w/upgrades, sent out a group of 6 or 7 around the edge of the map with zero protection, waltzed in with PD drones to absorb turret problems and essentially bombarded every worker line to hell with zero losses, dropping auto turrets for good measure. The rest of the game was practically naptime. Risky since he didn't have any defenses whatsoever and I was getting beat to hell. Wish I'd saved that replay to check out his order.
-
Im puzzled why you keep coming in here and saying things like this... scurry on now little vermin.
The mods are here, let them do their jobs and u worry about urself.
TeamLiquid has Liquidpedia now and has this new thing called "strategy hour" where they discuss new strats with pros in video. they only have a few so far because they just started.
You just have to look around for different things. Theres a lot of videos on youtube. After you watch replays for sometime you start to see the whole strategy come into play. -
Point Defense Drones are extremely useful. They block any projectile at the cost of 10 energy. Since the drones each comes with 100 energy, it blocks about 10 shots before it needs to recover some energy. Drop in like 2-3 point defense drones and you're sure to have a huge advantage over an army that's heavy on projectile shooters like hydras, marauders or stalkers.

Who is the hot girl in your avatar?
Yeah, marketing exists for a reason. We're just pawns in their master plan to take advantage of our emotions. -
 it's kristen stewart!
I'm trying to get used to protoss and terran but they're so different from zerg. They have so many more build orders, upgrades, units.. I loooove siege tanks though -
Zealot nerf - that's stupid. Zergling rush is going to win every time
Siege tank nerf - I agree, however saad it is
Bunker nerf - thank god! No more cheese bunkers
Battlecruiser nerf - finally!
Ultralisk fix - eh, okay
Where are the roach, hydra, ling, queen, spire, bio ball, and crawler fix? -
You forgot reapers!
I think reapers are even more useless now... but then again, I don't play Terran or Zerg, and their debuff is because of TvZ... -
So... now siege tanks are going to be practically worthless against hydralisks and zealots?
What's their role going to be? Splash is only good against small, tightly-packed units, and armored units tend to be bigger and not very tightly packed.
Ugghhh, why do I get the feeling that these fixes will only balance diamond-level play, but totally f*** up silver/gold/platinum levels? -
I think the siege tank nerf is quite nice. You do realize unupgraded zerglings and banelings STILL die in one shot. Hydras still move slowly, and zealots are getting a nerf too.
Remember, they still do the same amount of damage against marauders, stalkers, etc.
I think this will help encourage more zerg players, to say the least. -
Well, somewhat. Zerglings arent worth crap against marines or marauders still. Speedlings are fodder, and cracklings are late game. For the amount they cost, hydras need a health boost.
-
Marauders + stimpacks bothered me the instant I saw them. Seems WAY too powerful, especially with the medivacs backing them up, and the slowdown upgrades for the grenades.
-
battlecruiser nerf? It was already nerfed. What's so great about them that they had to nerf them?
-
They destroyed ground forces with no competition
I'm on a 5 win streak. I love protoss and warping!!! -
I lost 5 battlecruisers against only a handful of some Protoss ground units in no time flat. I dunno. I thought this was supposed to be perfectly balanced which is why it took them so damn long to release it. Like most games these days it gets annoying when they constantly tweak units. They should reset stats every time then because maybe someone would have won if they had the new strengths/weaknesses or if someone had more time to play with the new tweaks than someone else. I mean, maybe they should revise the rules of chess every so often too. Yes I'm bitter, but at 0-10 I have every reason to be. I'm shooting for a perfect 0-50 in the practice rounds. Wonder if anyone has done that yet.
Which reminds me, is the automatic playmatching supposed to take into account your stats? Because I never play someone completely new to SC or SC2. It's always someone who said they suck, but have 50% win/loss. Well guess what I have 0% win/loss. Pit me against someone equally as sucky as me. -

Hmm just read the patch notes.
sounds like Tanks will get pwned from bio balls now, and it wont help me much as protoss since I usually use stalkers. I lost a game today as zerg because the guy had like 15 tanks and missle towers everywhere its base was locked up tighter than heck and he just kept taking out all my expansions with MMM drops. -

oh noes... I just played a 1v1 game and won and got promoted to platinum...
I feel like gold was good for me platinum may be a bit over the top.
I was holding rank#1 in gold pretty easy though. -
I just had my "greatest" game ever. (Fraps is only recording in 30 second shots so I can't show it
)
It's protoss versus protoss. Clearly we're both noobs. I start off with 4 gate and a cybernetics core, he goes 2 gate, cyber, and an early rush. I thought I had walled off my base...apparently warp gates, when corner to corner, have a tiny gap that zealots can move through! So the 4 stalkers i warped in to try and range from behind the wall went down easy. He came in with another wave, on top of his still living 4, and took out 5 workers, and a gateway.
By now, I have two proxy pylons by his base that he doesn't know off. One at his natural, one off at the next base. I get just barely get a void ray out of a stargate I had tucked away and kill off all of his zealots.
Now there is a brief lapse as I recuperate. Me, the less noobish noob, think "oh hey lets get a mothership!" But I have adhd apparently and forget all about what I got the fleet beacon for and get a carrier instead.
The more noobish noob goes around the entire length of the map and into the back of my base with 6 void rays. He begins annihilating my workers, but doesn't charge up on my base
So I get my lone carrier and void ray in there to clean up. I sacrificed them in vain, only taking out 3 void rays. I had been warping in zealots near a proxy pylon at his natural thinking a counter would get his rays away.
Then I remember, oh yeah I have 2 stalkers and 2 sentries near the front door! So they take out those last 2 voids and I continue warping in zealots. I upgrade my carrier's interceptor thingy and call in 2 more voids and a carrier.
Now I push these 4 flyers to his base and join the zealots and stalkers...at the same time he went around the side of the map again and starts attacking my base again. I think I'm finished so Instead of backing up and trying to take on another 4 voids and 3 phoenixes I continue attacking his base.
It's getting down to the wire now. I try microing as best I can and think If I spread the damage around I might be able to out kill him! He wasn't very good at micro and let two of his voids lose charge. I knew if I faced his charged voids I would lose easy. My remaining two zealots scout out his workers who fled when I attacked his base and his new expansion. Instead I found...a pylon
. Piece of cake for my zealots. With no buildings left, I win!
In the end, what saved me of all things was a refinery
He hadn't killed it with the rest of my base!
I can only imagine how frusterated he was. -
Lots of nerf in 1.1 o_o Heck I think we'll see zerg playing ranting how their ultralisks get nerfed and just ignore other people mentioning how their units get nerfed too.
And how is the ultralisk strong for it's cost? At it's tier, it's too easily sniped by first tier units to the point of being able to be kited by marauders and stalkers alike. They should really put in a new type of unit for the ultralisk instead of armor. Too many things do bonus damage to armored units now that massing light units probably is the way to go :/
That aside, I should play more games ._. -
Ultralisk seems to be about the only counter zerg have for mass thors with marine backup. And they are NOT too strong for the cost - they take an age to tech to, so by the time you get them your opponent WILL have a horde of thors, and you STILL have to put a meat shield of zerglings in front and a hefty backup of hydras or roaches just to keep the ultralisks alive long enough to deal some damage.
They definitely made ultralisk the longest tech to get to, since (from SC1) battlecruisers have been made more accessible, but then they butchered its role. In SC1, hydras and zerglings were so flimsy that you HAD to use them to counter reavers and tanks. Now everything does extra damage to armored and ultralisks suck at countering the things they need to counter.
Point in case, I just won a 1v1 as terrain against zerg. I went thors. He went mutalisks (which is what prompted me to go lots of thors in the first place). His mutalisks went down faster than I could blink, and my thors then proceeded to walk through waves of zerglings, banelings, roaches and hydralisks. I ran out of money (I was expansion blocked a lot), but I still had 4 thors, which just walked through his expansion and his main base, killing the last of his zerglings and a couple ultralisks before he quit. The ultralisks were the only things that could even touch my thors, but only because I left them bunched up and didn't bother to micro away from the splash. -
IMO, those zergling meatshields acts more like a hindrance for the ultralisk. Ultralisk range is such that it can't even attack from behind the zerglings so people would just accept the miniscule zergling damage for a few seconds to snipe out the ultralisk standing behind waiting for it's turn to attack :/
They should give the ultralisk an ability to charge forward I'd say... What's that huge hard head for asides from taking grenades from marauders -
Hm, a charge ability would be pretty cool, and wildly useful. Finally, something interesting to do with zerg micro!
-
Hmm. It's late and I wanted to try multiplayer but didn't feel like figuring out a strategy. So, I gave Hava/extortshorties strategy. The result was fun:
I think I might delve into some turtling strategies. I like annoying people in games, haha. -

Protoss Zealot & Warp Gate Nerf
Tanks will still own protoss too since stalkers are armored. -
Well at least charge zealots can capable of probably surviving one or two extra siege tank hits and can actually reach the tanks before they get decimated
-
Tank nerf makes it so zealots can survive one more shot.
Zealot warp in nerf makes sense because 2 gate and korean4warpgate ruined PvP. Also a properly microed 2 gate killed a Zerg player's economy. But in PvT, the Zealot nerf makes it REALLY hard to survive the early 3 marauder rush.
Reaper nerf existed during beta and was because of Ensnare's reaper build. Which ruined Zerg players on maps like Kulas and Desert Oasis.
Battle Cruiser nerf is dumb and so is ultra nerf.
Too many nerfs, not enough buffs. Also mothership is still a worthless piece of ****. -
._.
-Gives Random1337 a chill pill- -
It just makes me sad how Blizzard is balancing the game.
Overpowered stuff existed in SC1, look at Storm, Dark Swarm, Cracklings, Spider Mines/Vultures, Irradiate, Recall/Stasis, Reaver, and M&M.
Just nerfing everything to oblivion does not make a fun game to watch, and neither does it make a balanced game. -
Must not have played wow, eh? This is how blizzard works, unfortunately.
-
I was lurking around and saw this
Let's make an all NBR division
Also just found out about Starcraft 2 Rankings o_o -
Whaaa?
I'm rank 136 in the world for 2v2.
--edit--
Oh, rank 136 for gold division... or something.
That'll be changing when I get bumped up to platinum. -
Reducing the damage of 3 units by a few points and increasing a couple build times by a few seconds is "nerfing everything into oblivion"?
What about all the previous patches back in the beta that buffed those same units and build times? One patch being a nerf does not mean nerfing is the only thing they consider.
And, frankly, nobody was asking for buffs this time around. If everything is working well except a few units/strategies, you don't adjust everything else, you adjust those few units/strategies. -
Why does it make u sad lol? the game is going to be balanced until it cant be balanced any further, just like sc1.
Obviously u can tell its not balanced still with everyone going 5 reapers zvt. Dont think anyone wants to watch that crap anymore.
Also, its not a huge nerf to anything, its a simple nerf to things that need simple nerfs. The game will evolve, and there will be countless builds to go with as time progresses.
The Ultra nerf is nothing, its not even a nerf because theyre actually making it do the right amount of dmg that it was suppose to be doing before to buildings. -5dmg to armored is nothing in my opinion. Frankly i just think they did that because they didnt want to off everyone else lol.
but i dont really get the bc nerf...w/e, cant wait to see it in action tho. -
If you try to build 2 gateways in an opponent's base, do you get to complain about cheese tactics? Or for that matter, do you get to complain about perfectly legitimate use of a perfectly legitimate unit?
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
The best part is, both of them see the reapers coming way in advance. And neither of them does anything about it, but they'll complain like crazy when I use my reapers just like they're meant to be used.
@Snowm0bile: You're kinda reinforcing my point about balances being intended only for the higher echelons. At anything other than platinum/diamond level play, you don't see 5 reapers zvt every time. It isn't much of an issue. But you DO see lots of protoss players being overwhelmed by early zerglings, you see people failing to get good use out of ultralisks, etc. at silver/gold levels. These nerfs are a step backward for a huge group of players.
I'm not saying the nerfs are bad or shouldn't be, I'm just explaining why we get to complain.
-
If protoss builds in ur base, yes that is cheese, but it is ez pz to defend as long as u scouted it in time.
make sure u kill the probe, and then try to kill the pylon with ur workers
sry bro, didnt see ur point before, was just skimming through
Anyways! ok i see what u mean about that. zergling rush i just dont see as an issue. You can easily learn how to defend a rush. Just make sure to wall off ur ramp.
If you are having probs with zerg rushes in ur league, just early scout zerg everytime to make sure if they are doing it or not. Learn what to do against it. Because any rush in general is usually all in, and if u defend it then u will most likely win because they are so far behind now.
This is why u dont see higher ranked players rush bc its bad for ur economy and the early game is the biggest part of the match. Frankly, the zerg rushes u and u defend it, just start sending zealots to his base, while macroing ur base. bc now hes forced to his base and will only be able to make zerglings to defend and he will thus have Low drone count.
Learn to harrass and macro at the same time and youll be golden
I suppose I should also mention that diamond/plat leagues are all that blizz will worry about because everyone else below that pole with eventually be up there sooner or later. But that is pretty interesting to think about. -
HuK won MLG Raleigh
No terran in top 3.
his prize money - $2500!!!! -

Nice.

I had really close game with another Diamond player.
Here's the replay. It's me (P) vs Frogmelter (T). I do a fast expand build, and he does a 3 rax early aggression build.

Just watched it. good sentry use, and when you were doomed you managed to recover with those all powerful collosi but what happened at the end? Did he lag out or something?
And despite your early expansion looks like he had more economy than you the entire game I guess a lot in part to the mules. -
Just tried making my personal division thing. It's quite a good way to keep track of rankings between friends
It works cross-region too
