So as Starcraft is coming close to an ending(maybe) and Starcraft II will be released soon, I thought it would be wise to share experiences one has had with starcraft.
Whether its sending a vulture in and setting landmines on probes or winning 50 games in a row. lol
Also, does anyone know when the beta is suppose to be released?
Well lets hear your memories with such an awesome game that has changed many lives.

Boarding house computer with 8 computers:
2-3 hour sessions after exams.
Boarding house recently equipped with internal LAN:
2 human players vs 8 AI players within 1 1/2 hours. -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Especially liked sending ghosts to do some nuking for a little irritation on the enemy's part.
Would spend 6 hours playing the game especially on Friday night when company and LAN's a' plenty. We would bet on pizza and fizzy pop on those who would lose the first 3 rounds.

Dropping reavers on probes/scvs/drones... =)
-
Man Ive been trying this for awhile with a friend of mine. Except we play on a map that he made and the computers are on insane.
-
I miss this. I cant wait to get back home and do this with some friends again!
except maybe bet on shots of alcohol lol -
I hate reavers in early game because theyre usually way unexpected and if you dont have air units, then youre prolly out of luck
;x -
building a command center/hatchery/nexus next to a enemy base and winning using workers

Favorite Memory:
I was the best player among my friends so in a 3v3 on a fastest map, they all rushed me and my base was destroyed with no way of me rebuilding. All I had left was 2 dark templars and 3 assimilators.
Unfortunately for the other team, they really had crappy detection so I snuck my templars into their terran's base and killed every single SCV he had. In the end, my 2 dark templars had like a combined kill of around 140 before they were hunted down by the pissed other team.... -
ahahha that is pretty epic. Did you have to waste the energy from the comsat? Like hit and run until he ran out? thats awesome
-
I remember when Starcraft first came out, I thought how cool it was that it had 3 different boxes, one for each race. It was so hard for me too choose! Went went with Protoss of course haha
hope they do something similar again -
I suppose it would be pretty sweet if they came out with another race.
If they are, theyve kept it secret because Ive heard nothing about it.
It doesnt matter, lol I know the game is going to be one that I will be playing for a long long time. -
Well, I attacked when they were distracted so whenever a big battle was occuring, I'd run in, kill as many scvs/probes and then run out when the battle was winding down. It took a while before the other team realized what was happening (mainly because they had no minerals/gas once they were trying to rebuild)
The Terran guy just started spamming Science Vessels and chased them down....but I had done enough damage and my team managed to win. -
haha nice. Man, I cant wait to get back and play online again. Ive been playing the computer for the last 6 months and made a few of my own maps with the computer on insane mode.
It just isnt cutting it anymore. I need to get back and play with some really people. -
they are releasing 3 separate games each with a race specific campaign. The Terrans are the first race to be released. the Protoss and finally zerg i think
all 3 games will have complete online play but only one race for the campaign -
-Proton Cannon defense + mass carriers for protoss
-Supply depot defense + mass cruisers for terran
-I sucked with Zerg so no real comment on that (mass hydras + guardians + mutalisks?).
-Having to use the Fax line in order to connect to my friend who lived up the street from me and talking strategy on the home phone (before cell phones).
-Ronin Warriors!
-DBZ!
-Starship Troopers!
-That game with the highschool classes (prep, skater, prom queen, jock, nerd)
-Big Game Hunters = Best map of all time. -
Omg, I remember Ronin Warriors, "A Day at School" is the Jock, Nerd, etc map. Defend the Temple...
-
Starcraft memories? More like Starcraft nightmares...
- Sleepless nights
- Hordes of Zerg
- Suffering GPA (managed to recover @ last minute
)
-
DBZ Budokai was probably the most fun game ever invented...
MTG was pretty good as well.
Blizzard pretty much revolutionized customizable gameplay with UMS.
And I really hope zerg isn't the last race released because that pretty much means they win the war, and I've had a grudge against the zerg every since they stole Kerrigan =( -
defiler + swarm + zerglings + ultralisks = win
-
;x
is that boxer?
So does anyone have any idea when the beta is suppose to be released? -
I've never played Starcraft, but have actually owned the game for a while (bought the $19.99 version that's still in stores a year or two ago). To all of you nostalgics out there, my question is this: is it worth installing and learning how to play, almost ten years after its initial release? Or will its gameplay be unsatisfying now?
(I've played the Total War series and Sins of a Solar Empire, so I have some RTS experience.) -
Really when it comes down to playing an older game it's not the gameplay per se that is affected. It's the graphics quality. If you can get past the decidely lacklustre graphics comparitive to today's titles I think you'll enjoy the game very much. And from what I've seen in the early demo video footage of SC2, there wasn't that much of difference from the original in terms of visual quality.

yes it's worth it, the gameplay will still be extremely satisfying, do it... NOW -
ok the graphics arent up to todays standards but as for gameplay and replayablilty it is FAR better than any of the games Ive seen out in the last 5 or 6 years
-
it all depends on what you think. Really, the game doesnt matter about graphics, it only matters if its good.
its great if you have other friends that love to play it as well. -
I was just wondering about something.
in wc3 i think you can change the resolution.
Is there any way to change the resolution in starcraft?
Ive never tried it before, or wondered if it could be done.
The resolution when youre making a custom map looks great you know. -

I love that "calm before the storm" moment after the nuke is detected and before it detonates. -

I loved getting a huge Archon army and using recall to put them in the middle of the enemy city and destroy it from the inside out.
Really sucked when one day the EMP blast thing caught on that kills archons almost instantly.
I liked longer games where you get the big units and lots of resources, was never a fan of rush games. -
That's because WC3 already supports changing the resolution, so it's just a simple registry value edit to change to a custom resolution. I don't think you can do so in SC.
Best memory was probably a LAN party a while back - photon cannon rush
-
i lol'd
-
Hey those graphics were killer back in the day, especially for 2d. And they're really not THAT Bad, I mean it's not so ugly it bugs me.
-

I cant wait, yeah i had a friend just randomly let me use his copies and i got hooked. I didnt have them long enough to even finish the original starcraft. I ended up getting the battlechest with both games and the guide books.
-
Seriously, look at those two screen shots. Except for some flash and texture detail there really isn't that much difference. And the SC2 video I was referring to came out about a year ago.
-
No, even in 1998 when SC ws released, the quality of the graphics were regarded as quite poor...
It's a major reason why I like WC3 over SC, but I also enjoy the storyline of the WC titles and the increased micromanaging of spells more.
Same. It was a paltry $8 a year or two back. Before that, I was using my cousin's copies of SC. -

I think SC has great graphics, its 2d you cant really go wrong.
-
Yeah, I think the graphics are fine for 98. And the graphics in sc2 do not look the same as starcraft.
If you think so, then youre prolly just blind. ;x -
One thing I didn't like about Starcraft is that you couldn't change the intelligence level of the AI. I need "dumber than dumb" now that I'm going back to try it again.
-
Just add an insane comp to your side vs. 2 normals
-
lol, just mass photon cannons. If you do that you can win 1vs7 computers...it just takes a long time.
-
manwithmustache Notebook Evangelist
but what will protect you from the guardians and siege tanks! -
you can change the level the computer plays at.
I think you have to do it in custom map tho.
you can open an old map and just put the settings in tho. -
Hmm, custom game screen below, there's no option for AI difficulty that I can tell.
-
Yeah, you have to get into the scripts. I dont have my notebook with me right now, so I cant check out exactly how to do it.
-
Ah, ok. It's been so long. That's what I mean, wish there was pull down menu to do it quickly and easily.
-
lol well i think there is a document that shows you how to do everything in custom map maker.
I dont know lol. its been awhile for me too.
What we otta do when sc2 comes out, is make a clan nbr!
unless there is already a sc clan i dont know about. ;x -
I'd be up for some SC for a while just to get me in the mood. I spent so much time on that game the first few years it was out. Now it's been a good 7 or 8 years (wow!) I've lost all my skill. LOLz. That'll be good though. A new challenge when SC2 is released.
Guess I'll have to make a new battle.net account because I have no idea what my old one was, and should start with new stats anyhow.
Is there a way to get Starcraft to run in a window? Considering its low resolution, any time I exit the game, all my windows are resized so small. It'd be great to run in a window too so I can actually do work while I play, yeah right. -
After a while of early time, this game is not as balance as it should. It had improved in the great way. I believed that challenge and great game play begin when Korean had picked as a E-sport(I'm not sure what it's called.) that pushed it beyond any real time strategy games.
